⚠️⚠️⚠️ PSA: A NEW & SERIOUS GOAT DISEASE HAS EMERGED⚠️⚠️⚠️

A new and serious goat disease has been identified, probably caused by a virus among people. It apparently has been an existence for a considerable amount of time, but only recently has anyone identified the disease and began to study it. It is called A.C.O.S. ( ACQUIRED CAPRINE OBSESSIVE SYNDROME).

At first A.C.O.S. was originally considered to be psychological in nature, but after the two young researchers here at the clinic suddenly decided to become show breeders, we realized that we were dealing with an infectious agent. Epidemiologist here have identified three distinct stages of this disease and the typical symptoms. They are as follows:
STAGE 1:
You have early symptoms if:
1. You think that any show within 300 miles of your farm is "near by".
2. You begin to enjoy getting up at 5:00 a.m. to walk, feed, and milk your goats.
3. You actually believe that it is fun to spend several hours a day grooming goats.
4. You think you are being frugal if you spend less than $3,000 a year in shows.
5. You can't remember what it was like to have just one goat.

STAGE 2:
You definitely have the disease if:
1. Your most important deciding factor when buying a truck or trailer is how many goats you can fit in it.
2. When you look for a house to buy, the first thing you think of is how many goats you can keep on the property!
3. Your goats' feed bill is higher than your family's.
4. You have no money because you own goats.
5. You have more pictures of your goats than you do of your kids.
6. You like the smell of a buck!
7. Your idea of a fun vacation is to hit a show circuit or go to every goat event you can find.
8. Most of your conversations revolve around GOATS.
9. The words "Nationals" and "Royal" can send you into an uncontrollable frenzy.
10. You know each goat's name, pedigree, and date of birth but cannot remember your own!
11. You spend all of your free time online looking at goat websites and videos simply because it isn't enough to see goats every day just at chore time.

STAGE 3:
You are a terminal case if:
1. You wake up in the morning to find out that you put your children in the goat pens and the goat kids in your house.
2. Your neighbors keep insisting that those kids running around your house bothering your goats are yours!!
3. You cash in your kids' college fund to buy a new buck.
4. You've been on the road showing goats so long that you can't remember where you live!
5. You buy goats that are more expensive than your car.
6. Your family tells you "it's either the goats or us" and you choose the goats.

DO YOU HAVE THIS DREADED DISEASE??
Well, there is hope! In the course of our researches, most studies showed that cases seem to stop at stage 2 and remain chronic! An interesting side note of this disease seems to be that exposure at an early age has an immunizing effect. Several people afflicted with ACOS STAGE 2 AND STAGE 3 had close family members ( husband, wife, children, etc) with ABSOLUTELY no symptoms and very strong immunity.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PREVENT THIS DISEASE?
Until a cure is found, prevention is key!
*Avoid farms advertising "show stock" since it maybe that goats are carriers of the disease.
*Leave town on those days when the local newspaper informs you of a show in the area.
*If you inadvertently come into contact with an ACOS-AFFLICTED PERSON, leave as soon as possible( they do tend to cling) and thoroughly shower with germicidal soap.
If you are living with an ACOS-AFFLICTED PERSON, take comfort that, if you haven't already succumbed, you are probably safe... But one never knows!! 🤣🤣🤣

The Arkansas Traveling Goat Farrier

Hello!!!

I started trimming goat hooves to help a farm out and it kind of exploded from there. We own Goodwin Family Farms and have not only raised goats and sheep but shown them. We travel all over Arkansas trimming goat and sheep hooves.

I love meeting new people and helping them out with their babies!

We also specialize in reshaping/corrective hoof care.
