“Truly, I cannot thank you enough for Mr. Marty’s transformation. He is actually a pleasure to be with. Marty is even becoming a good farm dog at herding the ducklings into the garage. No barking or showing of teeth. Thank you so very much.”
These messages are the ones that make all the hard days worth it. BDC is here for you, even if you have a small angry dog. Marty has made a tremendous change in multiple aspects of his life including his behavior and physique the past few months with us AND at home. We are so lucky to have him apart of the BADDIES as a regular every week. His journey isn’t over, it’s just getting started! We love you Marty 🖤🥹

Today is a VERY important day…. 👀
Today is Tori’s birthday! This woman has been a blessing to BAD DOG CLUB. After adopting our former foster, Josie, she expressed her interest in learning more about dog training immediately. Since then, she has not looked back once!
She has completely blown us away with the progress she has made this past year with her own dog as well as all the client dogs that she works with every single week. (Who love her to pieces, might I add- especially , ,and Leo 🖤🥹 )
We are so immensely lucky to have this Cattle Dog obsessed, bug loving, Subaru Cross-trek driving woman apart of the BADDIES! Here’s to another year of first thing in the morning Weir Hill hikes and “Who’s getting the bone juice? 🦴 🧃” texts. (aka coffee 🤣) 🎉 🥳

A lot of you saw our story the other day of our new friend, Frida. We asked you to guess what rare breed she is so here is a post for the big reveal! 🥳
Frida is a Xoloitzcuintli! (pronounced “Show- low-eats-QUEENT-lee) Also known as a Mexican Hairless dog, this breed is over 3,000 years old! 🫢
This primitive, rare breed was once considered the “dog of the gods” to the ancient Aztec’s and Mayan’s. It was believed that these dogs would help guide souls to the underworld. Because of this, Xolos were often buried with their owners.
Today, while there are few and far between, you can see Xolo’s living life mostly as companions. They are still fiercely loyal and loving to their family. They also are a good watch/alert dog.

TWO FREAKING YEARS. Two years ago this incredible human took a huge leap to come train with me in Mason. Two years ago BAD DOG CLUB began to develop. Two years ago we all got so lucky when this talented, intelligent and determined lady decided to take her dog training career to the next level. Noey, to say I am blessed to have you in my life is an absolute understatement. I cannot believe what I see with my own eyes every day I get to see you work with a new dog or your own. The strides you have made with Yoshi and Kimi this last year have been unfathomable. CGC, Trick Titles, paddle boarding!!! YOU DID THAT!! I’m so proud of you and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for us as BADDIES. Thank you for believing in me and being such a strong pillar in my life, especially with the loss of my Felix, my Jalapeño and my Pepita over the last 20 months. I really don’t think I could have stuck this out without you. Here’s to another awesome year by your side. Let’s do this!!! 😈

Summer is HERE & things are starting to heat up (literally & figuratively) 😈 ☀️ 🔥
Many vacation plans/activities are fast approaching- including a couple of popular holidays that people enthusiastically celebrate every year. 🇺🇸
The 4th of July is about a week away & there will be parties, fireworks, loud music, & more. While it is a fun-filled family holiday for all & you might want to include your pups as much as possible! Dogs don’t see these festivities the same way we do so there are some things to keep in mind when planning out your holiday.
July 4th is the number one day of the year that pets get loose & lost. We want to make sure you you have all the tools possible for that NOT to happen.
So how should you prepare?
• FIREWORKS 🎇
A lot of dogs are scared of the loud boom of fireworks, especially when they’re happening frequently & all over the place without warning. Fireworks are also not just subject to 1 day, people have been known to celebrate the whole week! While you will 9 times out of 10 be notified of local fireworks, in certain states, individual people can legally shoot them off as well. A week full of loud booms that your dog isn’t used to & doesn’t understand can be stressful! How do you combat it? 🤔
Now is the PERFECT time to begin desensitizing your dog to the sounds. There are TONS of audio files online, on apple music, spotify, etc of all different kinds of fireworks. If we start getting them used to the noise now, we will save them a lot of stress & anxiety when the day finally approaches.
How does the desensitization process work?
After you’ve found the audio file you want to use, play it very low & reward your dog for calm behavior. As they get used to the low volume, you can increase at your dogs OWN pace. Some dogs are able to loosen up a lot faster than others.
Using noise machines, AC units/fans, & having the TV up loud can also help drown out the noises for your dog.
CBD oil is a great supplement to have on hand as well, & a thunder shirt is a great option in aiding your dog to help navigate this holiday.
If your dog has a very severe reaction to loud noises & you have tried everything listed above, you may want to consult with your vet about a medication to have on hand that can help keep them calm in these situations.
• RUNAWAY DOGS 🐕
As mentioned above, this is the NUMBER 1 DAY OF THE YEAR dogs go MISSING! Make sure your dog has all their tags on in the event they get spooked & run off. This will make it easier for anyone who locates them to find you.
When it starts getting dark, bring your dog out LEASHED for their potty breaks, even with a fenced in yard. The leash will ensure your dog is teathered to you incase a sudden sound sends them into a panic. You can also be proactive in taking them out before dark to avoid this all together!
• FOOD 😋
We all like spoiling our dogs with a little table food every once and awhile but please remember that dogs can’t have all the food we are able to. Make sure to check that the food is safe for dogs before letting them have a snack.

Truffle was one of the very first Board&Train dogs I ever brought into my home. She was 9 years old and had lived a life of reactivity, nervousness and borderline aggression, especially when people would enter her home. Today, you would never guess it’s the same dog. She has new people friends, new dog friends and overall displays a calm demeanor in situations that used to make her crazy. We get the pleasure to see Truffle back for vacation boarding several times per year now, and we look forward to every time we get to welcome her back again. Thank you, Truffle and Kim. You guys bring tears to my eyes knowing how much better and more tranquil your lives are now. 💖💖

“Enough.” Anyone who has had the privilege of owning a high drive dog knows how important an “off switch” is. Some get lucky and bring home a dog that possesses a natural one that is seemingly built in, but, more often than not, it’s something that needs to be taught. Here at BDC, our play has structure- and for good reason! Have you ever played tug with your dog and have been unable to get them to drop the toy/end the game? 🤔 Has your dog ever locked in on something so much so that you are unable to break their attention from it? 😵💫 Have they formed an unhealthy relationship with a certain object or activity? 🫨 If you answered yes to any of those questions- chances are you have a high drive dog on your hands. Now what does this mean? Drive is defined as a dog’s motivation to participate in a certain activity or task. This usually has A LOT to do with genetics and what your dog was primarily bred for. This natural drive makes for some pretty fun training but it doesn’t come without a price. In order to prevent any unhealthy behaviors (like listed, but not limited to the ones above), we establish 3 separate commands. One that begins play, one that gives the dog permission to get the toy, and one that ends play. Why teach play like this? 🤔 Developing a dog’s off switch has numerous pros involved! * Many high drive dogs have no sense of self preservation when they are in drive. This can result in injury to themselves as well as to the handler. It’s of utmost importance that we integrate structure into our play as a safety precaution to prevent these situations from occurring. * This method of play helps develop a dog’s impulse control around a toy- which can be translated over into many more situations. * Placing the utmost emphasis on the clarity of your marker words strengthens them and proves the dog has a deep understanding of the language you two share. Our little friend Gia is a nervous nelly when it comes to big vehicles/trucks and loud traffic. We’ve been working on her becoming more comfortable when around them in our training sessions every week and last week Gia held a beautiful, calm, down stay when a very noisy landscaping truck pulled into the parking lot we were at.
