LEVELS OF PRESSURE AS LANGUAGE AND INFORMATION.
In a dog's language, physiology and psychology, pressure simply means they need to do something or stop something. we can layer in verbal cues to this conversation, but they are relying on their own way of learning to connect the dots.
allowing them to process in their own language, they are able to participate in a purposeful way in a two-way conversation.
Here I am with with Violet, newly decompressed from Rescue and continuing to work through her "stranger danger" by doing familiar obedience exercises with me while a new person is present.
(That is the hesitation that you're seeing here - she is working through it beautifully, building her confidence and trust, step-by-step.)

Bursting out of the crate is adrenalized and instinctive, but it's not normal and it Will not help long-term stress reduction. Great conditioning first. And then look what you can get.
Working through nervousness with quiet leash guidance and calm energy.
First Assessment and session with Mal-mix right after being abandoned by owners.
Nervous dogs are not looking for your touch direct icon contact or coddling voice. They are looking for safety through calm, guidance and leadership.

Door behavior starts with practicing inside with each dog individually, using both leash and body language. Packs organize by modeling and matching energy. Love them by Leading them into a natural state of pack harmony.

DOING "DOWN" - PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
down is not a stretch for dogs, but they certainly will act like it, especially when the food lure goes away. That's because using food, makes it a trick to perform for food. Taking away the food, but not using a leash makes it purely a suggestion that can easily be ignored.
Light, steady leash pressure as information is what dogs trust and understand best.
Leash pressure doesn't force anything ----
Leash pressure ASKS your dog for something.
And it's your PATIENCE that enforces it.

Greeting Guidance finishing Steps.
All the work that teaches impulse control and leash guidance and verbal cues happens BEFORE the actual greetings. First, they learn not to expect greetings every time they see people... then, they learn that they do it with permission and that there are physical boundaries to respect.

ECOLLAR AS A CLEAR AND COMPELLING TWO-WAY CONVERSATION, NOT A PUNISHER.
Step 2-- Layering into known commands/exercises
(after conditioning with positive reinforcement).
I don't start any dog training on ECOLLAR-- I begin with a few weeks of both owner and dog becoming proficient, if not fluent, with leash language, body language and how to layer-in verbal cues with good timing.
