Living with toddlers and dogs is a lot of work! The number one priority is supervision and safety.

Here Red jumped onto the couch and sat on Elwoods toys. Elwood, who doesn't talk yet, just screamed and went to push or hit Red! Gently and calmly I just said "Oh El! Did Red sit on your toys. Silly dog. Just say, mom! The dog sat on my toys, please help!"

El might know what I'm saying, but probably not. However, she does see my actions! Toddlers are the best at mimicking. So let's hope next time instead of going to hit, she finds a calm way to respond. And if not, I'll be there to help and show her again!

My New Years resolution is to post once a day, everyday, to help grow my business. Let see if it works!

Today Elwood, my toddler, was playing with paper towel rolls. I brought the girls upstairs for a change and nap, came back down to Shamrock chewing on the rolls! Shamrock is only 8 months old and is in prime adolescence. In other words, he's in his terrible twos.

Of course being a sleep deprived mom, I wanted to freak out! But I realized he's a dog. I left the rolls on the ground, he likes to chew things, and how is he supposed to know better. So instead of getting mad at him I took a photo. This way I get to make fun of him and complain to the world. It's only paper towels anyways.

If your puppy ever destroys something, just remember that they are dogs. They are programmed with hundreds of years of history to chew. We don't hit our kids for putting things in their mouth or drawing on walls, so don't hit the dog. Just take a photo and complain on social media!

Tonight's enrichment! Elwoods non eaten breakfast in a snuffle mat 😋 The dogs spent a good 30 minutes foraging for left over sausage. Now they are all relaxed and sleeping. I highly recommend snuffle mats! It can be a fun activity for kids too! They can help hide all of the goodies!
* I don't recommend sharing a snuffled mat with multiple dogs unless you are 100% sure there will be no resource guarding.

A Home-Styled Approach to Dog Training.

Who are you?

Christine Seyler - C.D.T.K. - C.T.D.I. (in training) - I.A.A.B.C. Member - A.P.D.T. Member - Always continuing education. I am a Positive Reinforcement Trainer focused on using Games to create life-long behaviors. I believe in treating the Mind, Body, and Soul through enrichment and nutrition. Our family moved to Lancaster city in 2018. After years of working management positions in the corporate world, I was always trying to break into a career that I wanted to be passionate about. One day while working on some basic dog training exercises with our boys, I realized my passion and career were right there under my nose. During the last three years, I have been running a doggy daycare, studying, and training my way to become a Professional Dog Trainer! My ultimate goal is to work with our local youth and help educate kids on how to work with dogs.

What do you mean by a Home- Styled approach?

Oddly enough dogs are just like kids. No, they can’t pick up objects or play verbal ping pong but, they do need emotional support, nutrition, exercise, and mental stimulation. Many training facilities are blank open warehouses, cold to the touch. I believe that in order to learn, a dog needs to feel at home. They need to be comfortable, secure, and safe; just like our kids.
