🚨🚨Cold Weather Critter Alert: Protect Cats and Cars!🚨🚨
A Public Safety Message from TchiaKousky’s Animal & Critter Control LLC.
As temperatures drop, our furry, four-legged neighbors—especially feral and outdoor cats—look for any available source of warmth. Unfortunately, one of the most common and dangerous places they seek refuge is within the warm engine compartment of parked vehicles.
Starting a car with an animal inside can lead to severe injury or fatality for the cat, and potentially cause thousands of dollars in damage to belts, hoses, and mechanical components. Please follow these essential steps before starting your vehicle during cold weather:
✋5 Critical Tips: The "Hood Check" Protocol
🐾 1. The Gentle Tap (Mandatory)
Before you unlock your car, make it a habit to firmly tap, knock, or thump on the hood and fenders of your vehicle, particularly near the tires. This small action is usually enough to startle a sleeping cat and encourage it to leave the area without harming them.
🐾 2. Honk Briefly
If you have an older or louder vehicle, a quick, light tap on the horn can serve as an additional warning. This sound often motivates animals to retreat from the engine bay.
🐾 3. Check Underneath
If you see paw prints on the hood or snow around your car, quickly glance under the vehicle, especially around the tires and wheel wells, as cats also hide there for shelter.
🐾 4. Give Them Time to Evacuate
After tapping and honking, wait a few seconds before starting the engine. A startled cat needs a moment to fully wake up, orient itself, and safely climb out of the cramped engine space.
🐾 5. Secure Your Garage
If you park in a garage, ensure the doors are sealed tightly and checked periodically for gaps. A secure garage not only protects your car but also prevents animals from entering and nesting in other dangerous areas, such as stored equipment or insulation.
