Tin Star K9 Tin Star K9 is owned & operated by retired LEOs with experience & knowledge in producing working dogs for police, military, & search/rescue organizations.

We offer the top quality scent discriminant trailing, detection, & multi purpose dogs on the market. Tin Star K9 offers trained trailing and detection dogs to Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, and Civilian organizations. All of our dogs are hand selected as puppies and start their training at 8 weeks old. Taking full advantage of the crucial time in a dogs life between 8 and 16 weeks old, the pu

ps are started on search games, trailing, and exposed to a wide variety of environmental issues to ensure they are properly imprinted to work where they will perform and are environmentally sound. Our unique training program was developed over decades and was heavily influenced by the challenges encountered in real world deployments. The Tin Star K9 staff has over 80 years of law enforcement experience combined, 40+ years of that being in criminal investigations and missing persons. Our staff knows what it takes to be successful when deploying your dog. At Tin Star K9, we train where we work. A percentage of all training is conducted in wooded, rural, and minimally populated areas, but the vast majority of the training is conducted in heavily populated urban areas where the bulk of deployments occur. Tin Star K9 offers a variety dogs such as bloodhounds, retrievers, and pointers to suit your organization's needs. Our bloodhounds and retrievers are all scent discriminant man-trailing dogs that will far exceed the standards set by SWGDOG, NAPWDA, and NPBA. Our detection dogs are custom fit and available in a large selection of disciplines, to include:

HRD (cadaver)
Invasive Species detection
We have also trained several specialty detection dogs for private/civilian applications. Tin Star K9 has both finished and better than green dogs available to fit your program. We provide basic handler training, advanced training, group seminars, as well as additional on-going training and deployment consultation at no charge with the purchase of a dog. We offer:

We do these detection drills in open fields so there's no handler influence and there's nothing for the dogs the visually fixate on.

This young male (R***r) has a solid final response and all the drive you're looking for. Great response to target odor, and crazy high ball drive.

It's all about behavior changes in K9 work.

Watch this 10 week old Bloodhound pup recognize he's out of odor on a trail (stops and lifts his head), starts searching, then snaps on the odor and finishes!

We love using puppies to demonstrate the behavior changes when trailing. No handler influence, because he's off lead, just pure behavior change to the target odor. And this is day 6 of his training.

NC Fairview Fire Dept Captain Myers heads home today with K9 Scout who has been trained in scent discriminant trailing, area search, and HRD here at Tin Star K9.

We had a great week with Captain Myers as he and Scout trained in the rain, snow, and 47 mph winds!
You can't pick the weather on deployments, so you have to train in it all. And they did!

Another Boot Camp comes to and end. This new team is heading home, and plan to deploy immediately.
