All of our dogs are hand selected as puppies and start their training at 8 weeks old. Taking full advantage of the crucial time in a dogs life between 8 and 16 weeks old, the pu

ps are started on search games, trailing, and exposed to a wide variety of environmental issues to ensure they are properly imprinted to work where they will perform and are environmentally sound. Our unique training program was developed over decades and was heavily influenced by the challenges encountered in real world deployments. The Tin Star K9 staff has over 80 years of law enforcement experience combined, 40+ years of that being in criminal investigations and missing persons. Our staff knows what it takes to be successful when deploying your dog. At Tin Star K9, we train where we work. A percentage of all training is conducted in wooded, rural, and minimally populated areas, but the vast majority of the training is conducted in heavily populated urban areas where the bulk of deployments occur. Tin Star K9 offers a variety dogs such as bloodhounds, retrievers, and pointers to suit your organization's needs. Our bloodhounds and retrievers are all scent discriminant man-trailing dogs that will far exceed the standards set by SWGDOG, NAPWDA, and NPBA. Our detection dogs are custom fit and available in a large selection of disciplines, to include:

Invasive Species detection
We have also trained several specialty detection dogs for private/civilian applications. Tin Star K9 has both finished and better than green dogs available to fit your program. Three day trailing seminar ended this week with a lucky break in the weather!

Linda Shaw, pet recovery specialist from Maryland, and K9 Bayou battled through some of the roughest terrain at our training facility. Bayou was originally trained here at Tin Star K9.

This custom built seminar was also attended by Bonnie Hale, pet recovery specialist from Texas, who came to audit the seminar. Both of these ladies are truly committed to their industry, and it's awesome to see the dedication these handlers have.

As always, we opened the kennels and allowed Linda and Bonnie to trail with other dogs as an added experience.

Tin Star K9 specializes in Scent Discriminant Trailing Dogs, and backs that with decades of experience on the street and in investigations. All of our instructors are career LEO that will teach you how deploy Bloodhounds in criminal investigations as well as missing persons incidents. Our experience in investigations is unmatched by any other company.

All of our dogs begin training at 8 weeks old, and that training continues until the day they leave with their new Handler. Preparing these dogs for street work requires a trainer that knows the demands of the job. Our trainers know what it takes, and we put it into every dog we train. Tin Star K9's 350 acre training facility is located in Northern Illinois where we have some of the most varying weather conditions in the country. Ranging from 110 to minus 35, our dogs are conditioned to work in any environment.

Our Handler training (named Bloodhound Boot Camp) will prepare you for the rigors of K9 street work and the course work will provide you with information that can only be taught by experienced law enforcement. We cover everything from case law, evidence handling, report writing, court testimony, tactical deployments and beyond. During this course you will have the opportunity to work numerous dogs each day to further your experience as a K9 Handler and help you choose you own dog. At Tin Star K9, we don't assign a dog to Handler, we allow you to choose your partner after having trained with every dog in the kennel.

Additional training and 24/7 case consultation free of charge with every dog.

At Tin Star K9 we can provide you with grant information and the proper training built specifically for law enforcement by actual LE veterans so that you may acquire your desired end result at your desired price point.

Jon has been handling one of our Bloodhounds for the last 2 years, and came back for a custom built detection and trailing dog.

K9 Lyla is a trained scent discriminant trailing dog like Jon's Bloodhound, and is also trained for humans detection (HRD) and Fi****ms detection.
