With summer festivities kicking off, I want to remind you about the symptoms of heatstroke and prevention tips:

-Never leave your pet unattended in a car
-When hot/humid, keep your pet’s time outdoors limited ​
-Keep your pet hydrated​
-Ensure your pet has ventilation and a cool environment​
-Dogs with short noses are at higher risk due to their condensed facial anatomy and restricted ability to cool themselves​
-If any signs of heat stroke appear, contact our team immediately. ​

Wow 😍 look who I had the pleasure of grooming this morning! You guessed it - this lovely kitty named Dexter.

This is handsome boy. He got a nice clean up on his belly, arm pits and back side. He had a few mats that needed to be shaved out and he got a good brushin - and boy was there a LOT of fur! But now he should be feeling great for this sunny, hot weather.

Do you have a long-haired dog such as a Doodle, Golden, Wheaton, Poodle, or Maltese? Do you want to learn tips & tricks on how to comb & brush them easier so that they don’t get matted as easily?

I recommend a good quality slicker brush, this allows for less pressure to get through the coat but the pins will reach to the skin. After using a technique called “line brushing” and covering an area for instance, one leg. Go back through with your metal comb. This will check your work and see if you can easily run a comb from the skin out. If the comb does not go through the coat easily, then work through with the comb or grab your slicker and go back to your line brushing. We also recommend HIGH-VALUE reward treats that you offer your pet while you are brushing. Keep it to a short session at first, especially with puppies and tell them how good they are being!

This image illustrates the most important areas to brush to avoid matting. If you’d like to keep your pups hair long it’s important to stick to a 4-8 week grooming schedule.
