How to safely prepare pinecones for rabbit treats.

Step 1

Collect the pine cones from a pesticide free source.

Step 2

Remove dirt clumps, insects, and any dried sap. Soak the pine cones in a bucket full of hot water and 1 cup of white vinegar overnight. I use a mesh bag like what onions come in from the grocery store. Add a clean rock in the bag so all the pinecones are submerged under the water, other wise they will float on the surface.

Spread the pine cones out to dry for three or four days. You can also use a dehydrator set on low to speed up the drying time or set them in a sunny location if you dont have a dehydrator.

Step 3

Place on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay the pine cones in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake on low heat (around 250 degrees F) for 3 hours.

Step 4

Cool the pine cones completely.

Step 5

Give your bunny his new Pine Cone Treats!
Some rabbits will chew on them. Some will toss them about, and some will sniff them and ignore them.
Almost all of our rabbits love pine cones!

Let the new amazing Rabbitry begin!!!!
We have been wanting a new facility for years! Our Very OLD facility surely served her purpose and we were very grateful to have had it and do as well as we have.
BUT….After all my major and ongoing health issues then being hit with CANCER last year, we are having to alter the way things are being done and handled around the Ranch.

We will be implementing a FULL climate controlled Rabbitry. This Facility will be more healthier for the rabbits and me as well.
It will help Jerry and I as we move forward to be able to even offer more amazing breeds of rabbits.
Our Focus will remain the the same… We are all about the Youth. We are excited about Our meat breed program,it just keeps getting better and better.
Watch our page for up coming posts as progress continues!!

We are looking forward to some big changes to our Rabbitry in the next several months. This summer has been brutal and detrimental to our program.
We will keep the page updated as things happen.
We are gearing up for the 4-H and FFA county shows!! The Californian program is looking amazing! Our retired show girls are raising some amazing babies. We raise 6 meats breeds so we have a little something for everyone. Our ARBA show attendance will be low the rest of the year to be able to get all these changes implemented.
We DO NOT and will NEVER broker rabbits! Your rabbits from us will have been born and raised here on our Farm NO IF AND’S about it.

We love helping all the 4-H and FFA kiddo’s!!
