Training a rescue dog requires patience, consistency, and understanding, as they may have experienced trauma or lack prior training. Here are some key steps to help them adjust and learn:

1. Build Trust First
• Allow the dog to acclimate to their new home before starting formal training.
• Use positive reinforcement (treats, praise, toys) to encourage good behavior.
• Maintain a calm and predictable environment.

2. Establish a Routine
• Set consistent meal times, potty breaks, and exercise routines.
• Keep interactions structured to provide security.

3. Socialization & Exposure
• Gradually introduce new people, environments, and experiences.
• Observe body language to ensure they’re comfortable.

4. Basic Commands & Obedience Training
• Start with essential commands: Sit, Stay, Come, Leave it.
• Keep training sessions short (5-10 minutes) and rewarding.

5. Address Behavioral Challenges
• If they show fear, aggression, or anxiety, work slowly and avoid forcing interactions.
• Consider professional help if issues persist.

6. Leash Training & Recall
• Use a comfortable harness and reward loose-leash walking.

Hello everyone! We have some exciting news to share. Prowess has always been passionate about supporting rescues and the vital need for behaviorists in that environment. Many of you know that Sarah founded Fidos Landing INC NFP. Our Dog Training company received numerous surrenders, highlighting the urgent need for a formal nonprofit rescue. Rescue and community outreach are nothing new to our trainers, with 16 incredible years last weel of experience. As we move forward, we will be formally closing Prowess K9 and fully operating as trainers for Fidos landing dog rescue. Rest assured, our commitment to supporting dogs from other rescues remains unwavering. We are here to make a difference for EVERYONE. Over the next few days, you'll notice changes to this Facebook group and logo. Stay tuned for updates on our upcoming group classes and private training information. Hello! I know everyone is anxiously waiting for the return of our group classes, which will be prayerfully in February! Reactive classes are still happening at 4:30 at pet supplies plus in Orland Park. In the interim, we are offering four sessions in home for $350. Contact the team for more information 🐾

Happy Small Business Saturday everyone!!! We are sorry for the silence! The Prowess Team has been working in the background non stop helping families work their training needs! We are also beginning training in the new space shared with Fidos landing beginning in late January! 🎉 As you can see we are busy converting our space into a wonderful destination for training. Hello everyone! We have some news. It is with a heavy heart that we will no longer be training at the Barketplace in Tinley park. The Prowess team is moving to in-home sessions in-lou of group sessions until late November. Puppy class has one more session where we will be going to pet supplies plus to apply our skills to real life situations. We are offering 25% off sessions until October 31st. Also stay tuned because we will be opening a facility later this year 🎉

Fido’s landing has joined 2 other foster based rescues in a quest to SHUT DOWN unethical breeders! There are wonderful breeders in this world who don’t care about profit, health test their dogs and provide quality nutrition to their beautiful pups. Sadly all breeders are not the same. That being said we need FOSTERS! We have 11 goldendoodles coming tomorrow 😵‍💫. 7 (14 week old mini doodles ) and 4 ( 3 and 4 year old mini doodles).
