We don't get updates for TNR. but this kitty came to one of our TNR volunteers house where she started to befriend and feed. When she was able she trapped neuter and return him to her neighborhood. Then he disappeared. Turns out another neighbor was also feeding and when she moved she took him with. We recently received this message about his new life!

He said he’d like to give the ladies who were helping take care of him a nice update!

He’s nice and chonky now from not exploring so much anymore. He sleeps most of the day, and is up with the zoomies at all hours of the night. He’s not very picky when it comes to food, and LOVES treats. He’s addicted to catnip and i actually caught him getting into it one night lol

The truth about cat s*x

I'm going to have to admit, when I am encouraging people to have their cats neutered, internally I don't react well when they tell me they don't want to take away the cats pleasure in having s*x. And here are the things I try to tell them in a reasonable tone…

- while cats exhibit affection for each other in many ways, their reproductive urges are governed by their hormones. Take away those hormones, and you are not going to see them participating in s*xual activity. That could be one clue that they don't think about s*x like humans do…

- Something many people don't know is that the p***s of a male cat can have up to 180 barbs on it. Yes barbs – maybe not quite as sharp as the thorns on a rosebush, but definitely barbs. And the purpose of these barbs is reproductive – during the mating process, the barbs on that male cat's p***s rake the inside of the female cats va**na, and this stimulates the ovaries to release eggs. Everything I have read implies this is painful to the female cat, which is why she screams. I had someone suggest to me that we don't really know if she's feeling pain, after all don't humans oftentimes scream during s*x? Well all I can say is the thought of 180 barbs raking the inside of that cats va**na does not sound like a pleasurable thing to me, and having actually observed the female cats being pinned down and bred, there is nothing that would imply pleasure in anyone viewing it. At least not for the female.

- people who believe s*x is an active pleasure for the cats are equating it with human s*x. But female cats only engage in s*x when they are in heat – it is a reproductive function. Male cats might be prone to try to mate more often, but once they are neutered those urges go away. Humans do not need to be experiencing hormonal reactions to have s*x – the two are not the same.

So maybe let's get away from thinking the cats are doing this to have fun. Throw in the fact that the female cats are breeding constantly- having 2 to 3 litters a year, no break at all from the constant cycle of in heat, being bred, pregnant, labor and delivery, nursing kittens for 6 to 8 weeks, weaning them, and beginning the cycle all over – no I would say cat s*x is not fun at all. It might not be quite as hard on the boys except for the fact that they are constantly fighting with each other, beating each other up, getting infections, passing diseases and being hated by humans because of the spraying issues. The endless kittens being born with nobody wanting to take them in is the sad end result of cat s*x.

Come on everyone - whether you do cat rescue or not, get the cat fixed! They're really not having a good time, and their lives will be so much better when they're fixed!

We haven't posted a lot because we have so much going on. We basically are the only accommodating TNR program in the area, though we do know Humane Society is trying to set one up. Our schedule is crazy due to kitten season and the weather permitting for easier trapping. We would like to ask everyone to please be patient while trying to schedule. [email protected] is the quickest way to get through to scheduler. We do understand the problem of population and really are doing our best. We haven't even had time to post our numbers recently but trust me they are numerous! Have a blessed weekend and keep loving the felines! 🐈💤😴👍💕

We have been blessed with 6,000 dollars from Michigan City funds. We will be booking Animal Control once monthly to help decrease the feline population of feral and strays. We met with Mayor Angie this past Tuesday for this incredible blessing to our TNR program.

Our calls for TNR have been numerous! 57 calls in 3 days. We currently are booking into December. We wanted to share other options. Anderson Feline Reduction is 50 dollars per cat. There is also an income based TNR or even for pets which most aren't. There link is https://petfriendlyservices.org/spay-neuter-services/spay-neuter-assistance-program-snap/
We are thrilled for the number of people coming through to help curb the overpopulation of felines!

Income -qualifying pet owners can get assistance with surgery costs through our SNAP (Spay Neuter Assistance Program). Find out if you qualify.

Out of 11 cats 8 were female...that was part of a colony we did Tuesday. The colony caregiver found 3 moms with babies and has them now in cages or locked in garage so that they can all be found and fixed when the time comes. Today we did 11 more and 5 were females. Just blows my mind trying to comprehend how many babies will not be born because a colony caretaker cared, because a trapper pitched in, and a transporter was willing and arranged. Also because volunteers give up their day to spay and neuter like our vet, and team. TNR programs rock as well as all those who do their part!

19 felines Tuesday and 10 today. We are booked into June... do your part and get these outside strays and ferals fixed. 219-252-2872 is the number for scheduling. Our belief is whether you like cats or not, TNR is for you!

11 females and 12 males today. 10 out of the 11 females were pregnant. Can you imagine? One colony would of been quadrupled this spring had they not trapped, & transported to Fried's TNR (Trap Neuter Return) !

Tonight Fried's TNR representatives enjoyed a phenomenal dinner as well as the honor of being presented with a 10,000 grant from Michigan City Community Enrichment Corp. This will allow us to spay/neuter more cats as well as purchasing supplies! Our community is represented by many awesome people, programs, and organizations that we were blessed to spend the evening with!

30 cats today in for TNR. Just blows my mind calculating all the unnecessary births that were halted! Great job to all involved!
