Today begins the installation of the polyaspartic urethane flooring.

Updates for the facility:

- We are pulling the last of the carpet TODAY!!!

- Master Garage Corporation is coming in TOMORROW to grind off the old glue.

- They will be back again on TUESDAY to install a state of the art polyphasic urethane floor which I personally am very excited for! They are water proof, scratch proof, and 100% sealed which means no bacteria can grown in it.

- Starting tomorrow, the new HVAC system including built in air purifiers will also be installed! This will cut down on air borne illnesses such as Kennel Cough.

Visionary Canine is Massachusetts premier dog training facility with top of the line well… everything!

Thank you to everyone who reached out yesterday! 🤍

Chronic illnesses are no joke. I don't often like to talk about my various medical issues. They make me "feel" weak, but ultimately that mindset is not healthy either!

We should all be aware of our faults and change everything we can to Do Better.

As a dog trainer currently working 7 days a week, it's easy to forget that I am not a machine. I love what I do, and I am passionate about helping my clients but I am not a robot. I have to slow down a little bit sometimes!

This being said, I will not be making any NEW appointments until the facility is open in April.

Still keep reaching out to me with questions. My office manager starts NEXT WEEK and I could not be more excited!

I’m not ignoring your requests and texts- I swear! 😅

I have been in non stop meetings with the town, the landlord of the facility, been busy painting and prepping, all while still doing private lessons and day training.

All of this is for you! I love all my clients and I couldn’t do this without continued support. Whether it’s liking this post, any other post, commenting on posts, sharing my content, or sending new client referrals my way all I have to say is THANK YOU!

It's officially official!

Visionary Canine has its Kennel License from the town! We will be open for overnight boarding to existing clients with board and trains starting soon. Once my new HVAC and air purifier are installed with carpets removed, we will be good to go!

I've worked my ass off since graduating from , living all around the country, learning as much as I can. Not only in dog training, but how to be a good business owner.

I am especially grateful for .jo11 for being my rock and for teaching me the most important skills to dog training and being a good human trainer as well.

Building this little community here around Boston would've been impossible without all the help I've gotten along the way. Family, friends, and clients pushing me forward has really made all of the difference.

Happy tears are coming out of my eyes right now 🥹

Give a warm welcome to Bowie!

He is Visionary Canine's first Board & Train and will be staying with me over the next 3 weeks!

Though we *technically* aren't open for B&Ts yet, when his mom expressed her very valid concerns leaving her anxious dog at a busy doggy daycare for boarding while she and the family go on a vacation overseas, I couldn't help but agree to take him into my own home until the facility is ready.

Bowie struggles with extreme nervousness that displays as defensive (often mislabeled as "aggressive") behavior. He will bark incessantly at people coming into the home and Bowie has even nipped at people! He's a sensitive boy, the last thing he wants is conflict!

This is even displayed when he sees other dogs. He will lay down flat on the sidewalk and refuse to move if a dog is coming towards him. This is a submissive and fawning type behavior that can make him a target for other unsocial dogs.

Our goals are simple: boost confidence and install communication.

Bowie has been with me 2 full days now, and he's doing fantastic already!

Let’s agree to be an anchor for our dogs when they start to drift away… ⚓️

How do we keep them mindful in the present moment?

Engagement and communication are the answers!

To start:

- Always bring food or high value TANGIBLE rewards wherever you go for your dog

- Always keep them on a leash

- Mark “good” before you reward them to teach positive markers (so you can communicate you recognize their good decision making)

- Mark “no” anytime you feel you have to put pressure on your leash as a way to deter your dogs behavior (this is so the leash pressure from you is known as intentional in that moment)

- Keep sessions short, fun, and to the point! Don’t try to rep out too many skills in one session!

Happy training!

Babushka Lucy ❤️

After her first day training with me we ended with decompressing swims at the beach.

Down time with your dogs trainer is essential for a fully balanced approach to training.

Congratulations! You just brought your new puppy home!

You have your whole lives together and I’m sure you’re excited to start training your newest companion how to be your best friend!

But what should you REALLY be focusing on with an 8 week old puppy?

These are some of the things I prioritize:
• conditioning a positive marker - within the shortest possible window of time (ideally less than 1.3 seconds) use your positive verbal marker “good” before giving them a treat. This pairs that consistent sound with a food reward.
• touch tolerance / compliance - hold your puppy and carry them EVERYWHERE. Reward them constantly while you are doing this.
• engagement exercises / name recognition - when you’re puppy is already running to you for a treat, say their name if you can guarantee they’ll come to you, mark “good” when they get to you, and reward.
• hand feed hand feed hand feed. If you can’t do that, scatter their kibble on the floor of their kennel (no bowl). Eating off the floor of the kennel will help incentivize them to hold their bladders better. Dogs don’t like to make messes where they eat!
• practice calm in the kennel not only at night or during meal times. Randomly put them in the kennel through the day. Puppies are like babies and should spend most of their time sleeping anyway! If they’re out, they may get cranky from not knowing how to settle down
• always keep food on you. Prove you provide value at all point in times. Practice luring any opportunity you have! It doesn’t have to be for sits and downs, just have them follow the food lure for a few steps, mark “good”, and reward!
• groom desensitization is a big one, especially for the fluffy puppies! Get them used to having metal touch their paws and nails, slicker brushes, combs, driers, water, ear wipes, teeth brushing and heavily reward them for their tolerance! Spend more time rewarding them than actually grooming with young puppies.
• if at any point puppy gets fresh and mouthy, put them in the kennel. They’re probably tired and frustrated. Always travel with a kennel so they can have a decompression space wherever you go! Puppies need help learning how to decompress, this helps!

🚨 PSA for all fellow dog and cat owners

Pepper, my mom's 6 year old mini schnauzer, was attacked by a lone coyote on their property on Cape Cod. Coyote mating season is upon us, which means they will much more active; they will travel far in search of food or mates.

My mom let Pepper out the front door after my brother parked his car after coming home late one night. Pepper typically runs straight to the car to happily greet whoever has arrived. A short distance of no more than 50 feet that she never diverts from. That night was different. When she was a few feet away from my brother, she heard/saw something in the woods and darted after it. My brother was quick to respond and began sprinting through the woods after her.

Following the sound of a scuffle and a yelp, my brother arrived at a horrible sight: Pepper completely lifeless and limp in a large coyote's mouth, being carried off into the woods by her face. Again, my brother sprang into action and charged at them screaming. The coyote dropped Pepper and darted off into the woods. As soon as Pepper hit the ground, she snapped out of shock and took off towards the house.

From the moment my mom let Pepper out of the house to when my brother was carrying her with multiple deep puncture wounds back into the home, it was less than 3 minutes. An all-night trip to the emergency vet, a several thousand dollar bill, drains, staples, stitches, and mental trauma are what we walked away with, but we also walked away with our dog.

Coyotes are intelligent. They learn patterns and stake out areas where they believe a meal might be found. As the coyote mating season ramps up, it's crucial to be extra vigilant about keeping our furry companions safe. These stealthy predators pose a real threat to our beloved pets, especially when they venture outdoors unsupervised during dawn and dusk; prime hunting times for coyotes.

Keep your pets on leash when outside. If you have an outdoor cat... just don't.

Emergency situations can happen so fast, such as in this case. We were extremely lucky in this instance because Pepper came home.

Don't risk it, stay cautious, and keep our pets safe from coyote attacks!

Cheers to brewery obedience! 🍻

One of the many advantages of Day Training with Visionary Canine is the number of unique places we go to train in.

We often go to Marina Bay in Quincy, MA where theres always tons of distractions with a stunning view! When our brewer, Vilija, is here, she encourages me to bring the dogs inside to train!

And yes, is dog friendly during business hours as well 🐕👏

Come by sometime and bring your dog!

Let's be honest. We could all do better.

Myself included! Let's make 2024 the year of fewer excuses and more effort!

Hari and I decided to work on her active guard today. An active guard means she is to wait for a bite command but bark and jump while she waits. Up until recently, she has had a silent guard. This has just been so much fun to teach her. I love it when my dogs get to express themselves while going wild!

One of my go to safety commands

Climb prevents unwanted interactions with strange dogs and shows other handlers you have control over your dog.

It gives your dog a high level of control with very simple expectations: get on this surface and don’t come off until I say so.

Even if you believe your dog is perfect at home, there's more than likely some areas that need improvement! After the first few lessons in home, the lessons can take place around the community to proof the new state of mind and behaviors learned in training! Your dog's world deserves to be bigger than its backyard! Let's put the work in to get them out there! 🌎

How many of these skills has your dog mastered?

Who cares about obedience commands if your dog finds everything else around them more important and interesting than you?

If your dog finds value in everywhere but yourself, you will need to rely on force to keep them under control! A tight leash holding your dog back from something is using force.

Wouldn't you rather your dog have clarity in all environments to the point you can call them off of anything because they CARE about you?

Engagement and proper socializilation are the first steps!
