What is it Wednesday!
Bear and Remy have had a habit of rushing the front door when guests arrive. Today’s lesson was the “place” command. Here they are learning that they are to wait on place until invited to greet guests and you can see how they’re rocking it. Even though they have their own cots, these sweet “brothers” prefer sharing. Later, they’ll learn that the place command can be applied to lots of various objects (benches, tables, boulders, wagons, etc) and conquering those will build their confidence.

What is it Wednesday!
For this weeks what is it Wednesday we are talking about role model dogs.
Role model dogs help to show other dogs what they are supposed to do and not supposed to do. They help teach other pups and can be great assistants for trainers. Making sure your pup plays with good role models is important so that your pup picks up good habits and not bad.
For this week’s What is it Wednesday we are talking about hand feeding!
We are so excited to have these pups for training camp this month!
For this weeks What is it Wednesday we are talking about bond.
When we think about bonds a lot of the time it’s the relationship between a service dog and handler or police dog and handler but pet dogs and their owners should develop a strong bond as well. If your pup doesn’t know that you have their back and want the best for them, they won’t be nearly as engaged with you.
A few ways to develop this bond are hand feeding, daily obedience practice, play time doing what they want and heel walks. These are just ideas though so use your imagination, the sky is the limit.
Congratulations to Jake and Liberty as well for becoming a fully certified PTSD service dog and handler team!

For this weeks What is it Wednesday, we are talking about practice.
Practice is what makes everything come together. Fast repetitions of commands, clear expectations and dedicated attention are a few key components. We recommend 20-30 minutes of practice a day, all at once or broken up throughout the day. Put the work in and it will pay off in the long run!
Summer is just around the corner! What fun activities do you have planned with your pup?!

We are starting something new this week. Every week we are going to spotlight one of the dogs we are training and show you these wonderful pups we get to train. First up is Harry. He’s a mix who was adopted a few months back. When our trainer Josh first met him he barked the entire time and was really nervous. He’s on the second half of camp now and is doing so much better. He has learned quickly and has come out of his shell a ton! #DogTrainingElite #Indianapolis #Allgooddogs #dogsofinstagram #dteindy

For this weeks What is it Wednesday we are talking about little dogs! #DogTrainingElite #Indianapolis #DTEIndy #AllGoodDogs #littledogs
For this weeks what is it Wednesday we are talking about praise. Praise is extremely important when you are training your pup because it lets your dog know that they are doing what you want them to do. Dogs are very good at telling what we are feeling so making sure that we are in control of our emotions and show them clearly when we are happy with them makes all the difference in the world. If your dog is doing well, tell them! #Dogtrainingelite #Indianapolis #DTEIndy #Allgooddogs #Colliesoffacebook
For this weeks What is it Wednesday we are talking about training ages. Here at DTE Indy we start training at 8 weeks old for puppy training and then 16 weeks for basic obedience. Dogs continue to learn throughout their whole life so if you miss this window don’t worry, you can still teach your older dog new tricks. #DogTrainingElite #Indianapolis #DTEIndy #AllGoodDogs
For this weeks What is it Wednesday we are talking about confidence building. Dogs being confident helps with so many things. They are less anxious, listen better and tend to develop less bad habits because they are less likely to act out of fear or nervousness. You can build dog’s confidence levels lots of ways but one of the ways we like to do it is through alternate place. Alternate place is the place command on anything other than a cot. When dogs conquer a new alternate place item they feel better about themselves and this spreads to other areas of their life as well. #DogTrainingElite #Indianapolis #DTEIndy #AllGoodDogs
For this weeks what is it Wednesday we are talking about role model dogs. Role model dogs help to show other dogs what they are supposed to do and not supposed to do. A select group came out for this evening’s Service and Therapy Group Class. Awesome pups and awesome handlers. Service Dogs Save Lives!
For this weeks what is it Wednesday we are talking about long lines. Long lines have lots of uses one of them, like Lio is working on in the video, is using them as a tether for distance and duration practice. We like using non retractable biothane lines because they are very durable and easy to clean. Long lines come in all sorts of lengths but we find these 20 foot ones to be just right. #dogtrainingelite #indianapolis #dteindy#allgooddogs
For this weeks what is it Wednesday we’re talking about praise! Praise is telling our dogs that we are happy with them. It’s a great reward and lots of dogs absolutely love it! Next time your dog does what you want them to do throw them a party! Make sure they know that what they did was what you wanted them to do and watch how excited they get! #dogtrainingelite #Indianapolis #dteindy #AllGoodDogs
