Monday musings with Morti!!

I want to start today by telling everyone that Sampson is doing really well! His RBC is coming up steadily and he is getting better. And I want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone that donated to save his life. As a dog whose life was saved by the generosity of the CSBR village, I know first hand how scary it can be to be really sick and have to undergo a bunch of medical procedures.

The rescue people tell me that you can expect to hear more in the next day or two, but asked me to send a special shout out to our friends and favorite Relay For Rescue rivals, Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue. On Friday night, when the rescue people were excitedly telling each other about every dollar donated, doing the math to decide if this recommended test or treatment can be done, they quietly called the vet and paid part of his bill.

The generosity and compassion of our friends in the rescue community is astounding. Most people never see it, but I am here to tell you, they prop each other up in the darkest moments, sharing hope like bread at the table.

So go out and do some good today. Smile at a stranger, hold open a door. Donate to a cause that makes your heart smile. Tell a dog they are a good girl/boy.

A GIANT thank you to everyone who has supported Sampson's emergency medical treatment. Sam has made some big improvements thanks to the care provided by your donations. Sampson is ready to be moved from Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, back to Mesa Veteranary Hospital. He will be ready to go at 11:am this morning. I am in a little bit of a pickle with transportation. Currently, I am down to a lifted-single cab truck. (Not going to get him in there 😬)
Is anyone able to meet me (Brian) at WRAH at 11:am, with a low easy access vehicle to transport Sam 10 minutes away to Mesa? Minivan would be perfect, but anything beats my pickup truck.🙆

Sampson update

All day he was doing really well, then about two hours ago he started to have more and more serious heart rhythm issues. We authorized an echo so that we could have more info going into overnight. Overall things look good. No major structural issues. The increase in episodes means he will stay in the icu tonight.

Then the phone call. His PCV has dropped to 16%. We can’t delay the transfusion any longer, so we’re now on the high end of the estimate below.

Thanks to all of you I was able to say yes to the transfusion, even though we haven’t raised the full amount yet.

Will you help me save Sampsons life? He deserves everything and I intend to give it to him. Nicole and Brian can match $1000 in donations, so even $1 makes a difference.

Update Sampson's estimate stands at $5,000 on the low end. A goal that could easily be reached if people take the time to share and donate. The rescue can not cover this. We are in the red. And have dogs scheduled for medical visits. CSBR depends upon comunity support. It's hard to say we can not take anymore dogs until we can recover. But sadly this is where we are. We thank those who donate regularly to CSBR. And are praying that we will find mercy for Sampson and future dogs. *Sampson will need a loving foster to care for him. Who can help with possible future recheck in the Wheat Ridge Co. area. Should he pull through. 😔 Would you please ask friends and family to donate to Colorado Saint Bernard Rescue? We could easily be right back in business, if everyone just gave what they can spare. This is us begging for a rescue,for this rescue. Please have mercy on our mission.

It’s Friday and we’re gonna talk about Sampson again! Why? Because he’s in the ICU and I need donations so I don’t have to say “we can’t afford to save him”. Please don’t make me say that. Please.

Despite good bloodwork prior to surgery this morning, he is bleeding and having irregular heat rhythms. You know it’s not good news when your vets office calls you after they close, and your vet and nurse offers to drive him to the ER to save time.

Sampson is currently receiving plasma and a whole host of other meds.

Can you spare anything to help me save him? Please. I’ll post his estimate once I can check my email for it.

Does your interaction matter on Facebook? YES, it does,very much. Facebook has an algorithm. When you like or comment, this helps spread a post to the view of more people who could potentially help a dog. Scrolling past with no interaction , reduces the spread of a post. And tells the algorithm that the post is not popular. And thus,will be reduced in circulation. We only have a couple of Facebook admin volunteers. Every request for help is important to both dogs, and the staff who is struggling to figure out what to do with all of these rescues. While it's encouraging that a non dog related post reached one hundred interactions. What it really says is that not enough people are participating to keep CSBR popular. Please remember that this is a volunteer organization. It takes several hours to rescue and rehome a dog. It only takes a second to hit the like button. And give the dogs a chance to be seen. 👍

We have been tagged in a help group,asking if CSBR could possibly assist this Dane. He has been abandoned,and is hanging out in the alley still. He is friendly,and is being fed by neighbors.
If animal control gets involved first, he will certainly be euthanized. Would someone like to commit to fostering this guy and save his life? Message us at gotdrool.org

Today let’s talk about singing!!! There’s a particular song I love to sing along to ( no it’s not the song on this reel, I’m told that a business page can’t use my favorite song- rude, but whatever)
The great thing about singing is that it makes the people smile, and I love to make people smile 😊.

I also like to sing along to fire trucks and police cars. Why? Because I also have a job to do, and I am secretly hoping that the police are coming for the squirrels.
