This past Saturday, we had Girl Scout Troop 1738 visit Pattie’s Ranch, Home of Save The Animals Today!

They generously donated $500 worth of supplies that were on our Amazon wish list. Thank you so much for your kind donations! 🫶

We appreciate all the help that our community gives to ensure that Pattie’s Ranch can continue to feed and care for our horses and other friendly animals 🧡

Thankful this Thursday for Wyatt, one of our wonderful volunteers!

He knows how to do everything! During the move, we couldn’t have completed it without him. He moved the horse trailer, the boat, various loads of stuff and now he is fixing the plumbing 👏👏👏

Meet Emphatic! Emphatic is a 15 year old chestnut gelding on Pattie's Ranch! Geldings are male horses that have been neutered. Most of our horses on Pattie's Ranch are geldings!

Some interesting facts about Emphatic:
🧡 Emphatic was an off-the-racetrack thoroughbred
🧡 He sold for $350,000 as a yearling c**t back in the day. In fact, he ran a couple of times! Unfortunately, he did get hurt and needed to retire...which is how he came to be at Pattie's Ranch, home of Save The Animals Today 🙌
🧡 Emphatic likes to kick up his heels, so it is important to have gentle movements when you are around him!

We love sharing these wonderful facts about our animals with you all!

For today, we thought that we would review the steps on how to give one of our horses at Pattie's Ranch a hug 🙌
🧡 Start off by giving them plenty of space. You want the horse to come to you!
🧡 Make sure that you are standing in an area that is in the horse's field of vision! The best place to be is on one of their sides especially since they have two blind spots -- behind them and directly in front of their head.
🧡 Call out their name!
🧡 Now, let them walk over until they are right in front of you.
🧡 Once they are right in front of you, hold out your hand for them to sniff and touch
🧡 Once you both have made contact, SLOWLY approach the horse's side and put your arms around them 😊

You will know that they are hugging you because they will rest their head on your shoulder 🥰

This is a really clever way to connect with your emotions and learn to regulate them not just for yourself but with your loved ones as well! We call it 🥕Carrot Therapy🥕

Why we are a sanctuary and not a rescue 🧡
Sanctuary is defined by Merriam-Wester Dictionary as a place of refuge and/or protection. Rescue is defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary as a place where animals go to be freed from confinement and/or danger.

At Pattie's Ranch, VERY FEW of our horses were in danger when they came here. MOST of their owners treated them very well. But due to life-altering circumstances, their owners could no longer care for their horses 24/7. They called Pattie's Ranch for help which we were glad to provide. Now the horses are able to live out their life peacefully as companion and therapy animals, and their owners did not have to make the tough decision to put them down. 😊
