Hill work for a horse builds muscle which, in turn, helps them to continue to stay in shape. Specifically, hill work for a horse targets their shoulder muscles, overall topline and hind area. As a horse continues to take part in hill work, they are able to improve their confidence and balance. However, pacing is extremely important! By maintaining the same pace each time, a horse is able to limit any added stress that could occur.

Remember! Pattie's Ranch is open from 8 AM to 12 PM this Saturday. Bring the whole family, some carrots for the horses, and experience the joys of 🥕 Carrot Therapy 🥕

You won't want to miss it 😊

Hand(s): an ancient unit of measurement that equates to 4 inches. The measurement of a horse's height starts from the ground and goes to the highest point on a horse's withers (ridges between their shoulder blades).

English and British traditions have had a huge impact on how horses are measured today 🙌 In 1541, King Henry the VIII declared that all horses must measure between 14 to 17 hands. If a horse was less than that, then they were deemed a pony.

However, in 1850, the tallest horse that ever lived was a Shire named Sampson who stood at a height of 21 hands! Most recently, there was a Belgian draft horse gelding named Big Jake that stood at a height of 20 hands. This was without horseshoes!

To see how tall our horses are, come on out to Pattie's Ranch this Saturday from 8 AM to 12 PM! Bring the whole family, some carrots, and experience the joys of 🥕 Carrot Therapy 🥕

Please contact +1 (951)-837-9918, if you are interested in adopting Luna and becoming her forever home! Her family is desperate to find her a new and great home 💯

Luna, a 5 year old, spayed female Doberman, gets along great with adults and children! You can also expect to have a smile on your face whenever you are around her and her high-energy spirit 😁

While she has had Petco training when she was a puppy, she still needs some enforcement of what she learned in that training.

Most of our horses already had names when they came to Pattie's Ranch!

Choosing a name (or nickname) for a horse is such an important decision since this is how you will communicate with them. However, choosing the right name may seem simple but can actually be quite hard. This could be because there is more room for overthinking and also an added pressure to pick a name that suits the horse's personality and overall look.

Here are some tips for naming or giving a nickname to a horse:
🧡 Imagine calling out the name at your ranch or farm. If it feels too silly or may cause problems with neighbors, then it might not be the right fit.
🧡 Make sure that no two names are too similar (i.e. probably not Bob and Rob lol)
🧡 Think about what the horse's personality is like. For example, Emphatic can be very expressive. Whether he is hugging Bo or kicking his hooves at the ground, he is being emphatic about how he is feeling.
🧡 Keep it simple!

So, we know that two horses can have a "pair bond," but can a human and a horse have a "pair bond"?

In fact, they can!

A "pair bond" goes beyond just a peaceful environment. The ability to form that connection with a horse is what provides emotional peace for a person. This goes back to the innate trait where people need social relationships to thrive. Due to the horse being a prey animal and having a heightened sense of awareness of body language, they also need social relationships to thrive. Social relationships for horses help them to feel protected in their natural environment.

Form a "pair bond" on Pattie's Ranch when you sponsor one of our beautiful horses at www.stathorsesanctuary.org/meet-the-animals today!

Bring a friend to Pattie's Ranch any Saturday from 8 AM to 12 PM and say hi to our beautiful horses and other friendly animals!

Since horses are a prey species, it is important that they form a bond called a "pair bond." A "pair bond" is helpful for a few reasons, such as:
🧡 Mutual protection: while one sleeps, the other looks out for them
🧡 Body care: when they stand head to tail to swish flies away
🧡 Friendship: through activities such as play and mutual grooming

When goats rub up against each other, this is a sign of affection and trust!

Empathy is a mammalian trait and, just like horses, goats are sensitive to the emotions that they feel with each other and around people.

Goats are very sociable while also being lively, inquisitive and independent. It is very important that a goat has the company of at least one other goat 🙌

Socialize this Saturday from 8 AM to 12 Pm with our beautiful horses, goats and other animals! Bring the whole family, and experience the joys of 🥕Carrot Therapy 🥕

Goats teach us determination, curiosity and adaptability. Learn how down below:

Goats' determination is emphasized due to their constant desire to explore. There is usually very little that would deter a goat from going after what they want or need. Their determination goes hand-in-hand with their curiousity.

Goats are extremely inquisitive animals. When they are curious about something that is new, they will engaging in sniffing or nibbling as they discover this new thing. Goats do this to determine that the object in their environment is clean.

Since goats are prey animals, their ability to adapt is crucial for their survival. It helps them avoid threats from predators and parasites. Their low body mass and low metabolic requirements allow for them to minimize maintenance and need for water which play key roles in their innate skill of adaptability.

Plan a visit to Pattie's Ranch this Saturday from 8 Am to 12 PM and discover all of our friendly animals! Bring the whole family, some carrots for the horses and donkeys, and experience the joys of 🥕 Carrot Therapy 🥕
