Polite with toddlers
This is one of my little girls favorite things to do. It helps the dogs respect her and practice what i expect them to do with a little one. Be calm and patient. At first i had to make sure they did a sit or down when she fed them. Now they remember for the most part.
Molly leave it
Teaching a first Leave it with food. I was holding the phone so I couldn't use my other hand, but you want body language to go with it. I put my hand between her and the thing, while i say leave it
Molly leaving it (:
Preventing feet/pants biting and teaching them to leave the food pouch or any dangling clothes items.
Molly being polite
How to prevent biting and jumping/over excitement.
It's in the prevention, not so much the correction. Teach them what you expect (sitting, leave it, calm behavior with hands, clothes, etc ..) and reward it BEFORE they have a chance to nip, if possible. Redirect biting (which is instinctive and how they naturally play) to toys, lots of chew bones, raw meaty bones, sticks, pine cones, etc... Teach them it's ok to bite those, so they can satisfy their urge that way. Also, a tired (physically and mentally) puppy is a good puppy. Take them somewhere new everyday, if possible, for the first several weeks. Have them free run outside, chase you, fetch a toy, etc...
Molly socialization
So the priority for this little one right now is socialization with people. A couple of weeks ago she became all of a sudden hesitant around new people, so we have been trying to take her to a new place every day where there are people and she can play at a safe distance at first, and reward her if they approach her or she approaches them. If she acts scared we back off a bit. Today she approached on her own a lot of people and children at the park! She is getting so much better!!!
Bubbles
Bubbles practicing her polite sit for "manding". That tail.... She is so happy.
Copper heel
Copper doing great with his first session of Heel. Here is also an example of poor parenting skills, ignoring my toddler while she is talking to me 😅 She is being very patient.... I played blocks with her right after the video!!!
Copper
Scratches!!!! Yay!!
Copper manding
Finally got a video of Copper's training
Bubbles heel
Bubbles in her first training session for heel. She got it right away. This is the foundation for loose leash walking. You start without a leash!
Copper
Copper video. He was too excited and full to get trained at the moment. Waiting till he is hungry.
Red sleeping
Red has been sleeping in the crate by me for the past half hour despite all this noise...
