El Jefes' way of participating in "Tongue out Tuesday"
🤷♀️🤣
It appears Lambchop's Tuesday took a turn for the worse 😳😂
Thank goodness I have a closet full of backups!!
Reviews matter! El Jefe is doing his part, and is hoping you'll do yours!
As a fear free +R (Positive Reinforcement) trainer, it's important for me to help show people science based methods that have been proven to work. Humane training that helps strengthen your relationship with your dog. They are part of our families and deserve it!
If you've worked with me..and have seen how effective this training style truly is..from reactive dogs..to basic training for puppies..leaving a detailed review helps people understand what they are getting and that it works.
It's a great way to support a small business as well as to help me in giving back to the rescue groups I work with.
Word of mouth is so important, and detailing your experience even more.
I am still as passionate today with animal behavior, as I was when I started this venture many years ago.
I will never stop learning and evolving with science on what is best for our dogs.
If you're up for leaving a review, please head over to my page business review section!!
I look forward to working with you in the New Year!
El Jefe be heading into 2024 like..
This is likely the results of living with me..or..possibly.. the result of 2023. It could really go either way 🤔🤷😂
When the student becomes the teacher 🧐😂
The downfall to having your dogs off leash (if there were any questions as to what it looks like when a dog takes out a 6'2 person😉🤣)🤣🤦♀️
We all need some help getting our "sit" together..in one way, shape, or form! Even me, the professional behaviorist/dog trainer. Especially when it comes to things like finally getting around to having social media (and keeping up with it🙄), and having a website built..18yrs into it😂. Working with dogs is my niche', not so much the business side of things😳.
My time outside of rehabilitating dogs is spent geared towards continuing education, keeping up with new science based techniques, as well as donating my skillset to ensure rescue dogs get a fair shake, not honing in on my social media or business skills🤷♀️.
I 100% recognize areas I tend to struggle in. I definitely know working with dogs..we have to expect the unexpected..and roll with the punches..nips..and even knockdowns..so sometimes I focus more on that..as opposed to the business side of things 🙊
We all have our strengths. If training or working with your dog isn't one of yours, I can help 😉
Bennett is enjoying his new couch!!
Some of my clients are ok with dogs being on the furniture. Some of my clients aren't. I personally allow my dogs everywhere, but that doesn't mean I am going to judge you for not wanting that same lifestyle!!
We can train your dog to stay off furniture, we can train your dog to be on the furniture, and we can train your dog to wait for an invitation to be on the furniture!
I work with YOUR in home preferences 😊
Search and rescue efforts are currently underway for freeze-dried duck treats.
May the odds be ever in your favor, Beaker!
Never underestimate the power of mental stimulation! ❤
When your dog is injured, but they still love their walks for all the sniffing!
A stroller can work great for dogs being treated for heartworm, injured dogs that require limited movement, and older dogs that can't go the distance. (It's also great for holding my coffee 🤣)
They still get mental stimulation..and to take in all the smells..sights..and sounds!
I modified a 2 child, 3 wheel running stroller, to accommodate El Jefe while recovering from his leg injury (..and as you can see from his facial expression..he's totally miffed we stopped moving 🤣😂)
Never underestimate teaching a dog how to settle 🧘♀️🕉️
(*this goes for humans, too 😉)
Malala here, nailed it!
This the proper bottle feeding technique for a 6 week old?!
*asking for a friend 🧐
😂🤣
Let's dispel the assumption that working dogs can't sleep while on the job. They can nap and chill but still be capable of responding when their handler needs them to. Napping doesn't mean they aren't paying attention.
If you see a Service Dog napping, it's still not ok to engage or try to pet them.
They are working dogs, and any outside engagement is distracting them away from their handler and their job. So that means no touching, no talking to the dog, and no stepping over them.
In most states it is a misdemeanor crime (Colorado is one of these states), or worse, to interfere with a working dog.. and interfering includes any style of distraction.
This is also a reminder that misrepresenting a Service Dog is illegal in many states as well..including Colorado.
I love working with rescues. Plain and simple. Last year, I was able to donate $26,480 in services and materials to rescues, and worked with hundreds of dogs.
I could spend literally all my time doing this. I work with rescues in many different capacities so I can make the biggest difference for as many dogs as possible. This includes and is not limited to, going into foster homes to start working with the dogs in foster. Going to the new adopters homes to ensure they have the tools to set themselves and their dogs up for success so the adoption sticks (so many dogs are returned for reasons that can oftentimes be resolved easily if we have the proper techniques to do so). Assessing new dogs that come into rescue. Dog meet and greets..and more.
There are endless misconceptions about reactive dogs.
Fear, anxiety, frustration, pain/discomfort, and herding instinct being triggered can all potentially present as reactivity.
Reactivity (or what I refer to as “really big feelings”) can even be a behavior that is learned by a dog to protect themselves based on past experiences. Behaviors are patterns to be understood, not to be punished.
They are doing what they think needs to be done at that moment, and it is our job to TEACH them other options in a way that they can understand. This helps them to feel safe, think, and make a different decision. If I don’t particularly care for a certain behavior, I need to replace it with a more desirable behavior.
Attention Colorado people! Doggles are extra important here. We are a mile closer to the sun… even closer in the mountains. This means the sun can be more damaging to dog’s eyes, just like it is for ours!
These RexSpecs doggles are some of my favorites. (link in bio)
Did somebody order a cute, 6 month old, mini Saint Bernard?!?!?
Valentina wants to know where her people are 🧐
Valentina loves all the pets and cuddles.
She's a sweet girl..and pretty tiny..not by design but due to a medical issue.
Valentina has EPI, which requires lifelong medical management ( basically her pancreas doesn't make enough of the enzyme to digest food and absorb nutrients so she's experienced stunted growth)
Medical costs estimate is $300-$500 a month.
She is available through
This Saint rescue is one I am beyond lucky enough to get to work with. They do amazing work..and cannot do it without all of our help!
If Valentina isn't your dog..sharing her can help. Donating to her future medical costs can help as well!!
Nicole and Brian work hard to make sure their rescues get the life they deserve, and they also make sure I get puppy snuggles too!! ❤️
Will you be her furever home?!?!?
We are in desperate need of an experienced foster and/or adopter for this FRENCH BULLDOG!
Charlotte Josephine is a beautiful, loving, mannered, well-trained, 5-year old Frenchie, who wants a home to call her very own. She needs to be the only pet in her home and can only live with high school aged+ kids. These requirements are non negotiable. Charlee Jo bonds to her humans quickly and loves to stick right by your side. She is a loyal, best friend.
She is NOT: a hiker, a camper, a dog-parker.
She IS: a napper, a snorter, a farter, a lover, a twirler, a sloppy kisser, a dancer, a wiggle-butt-er.
She has been involved in many hours of Positive Reinforcement training and has excelled.
She is a darling, smart, loyal, stubborn love bug.
Are YOU Charlee Jo's happily ever after??

BRONSON PUPDATE!!
.for those of you that may be wondering how Bronson is doing (the puppy I fostered with the malformed legs that my mom adopted).
He is clearly enjoying farm life, and is as equally spirited as her children 🤣😂🤣😂
I suspect this is what it was like raising me and my brother, too 🤣👏🤣👏🤣
Due to the loss of my sweet pittie, I will not be accessible/responsive for the remainder of the week.
I will respond back to you when I return back to the office. Thank you for your understanding during the coming days.
As for you, my sweet girl, may you rest in peace, pain free, and give the other side of that rainbow bridge the same spirit you gave to me all of these years.
You'll live on in my heart, and always be a part of my business name ❤️😇
Making a difference is a large part of who I am and what I want my business to represent!!
In just 2022 alone I was able to donate over $26,000 in services to local rescue groups. By just donating my skillset!!
I firmly believe that all businesses can make a difference, even small businesses.
I would like to thank all of my clients for inviting me into your homes and trusting me with your fur families!!
Your support allows me to be able to make a difference in our community and in a dog's life! From helping fosters with their dogs..to helping new adopters that are overwhelmed..to teaching kennel staff and setting them up for success..and even sometimes..randomly fostering a special needs pup or singleton pup!!
Together, these rescues, my support system, my clients, and friends are all helping me make a difference.
I couldn't do it without you all!!
*Side note: My accountant and I both may have had a brief heart attack seeing the final donated amount..but it quickly shifted to a sense of accomplishment!! 😳🤦♀️🤣❤️
Below are some amazing rescues I am lucky enough to work with (some I couldn't tag)!!
Please consider donating to any of them! They could all use more fosters as well! If you can't donate money, donate time. If you can't foster, help share their available dogs.
They can also always use crate donations, harness donations, toy donations, treat donations, and more. So if you have any extra dog items around that aren't being utilized, they could use them!
Without all the rescue groups hard work and dedication, I wouldn't be able to do what I love to do!!

Why? Because my dogs LOVE the snow and have amazing recall!!
El Jefe be heading into 2023 like..
This is likely the results of living with me..or..possibly.. the result of 2022.
It could really go either way 🤔🤷😂
To all of my clients, thank you for your continued support and entrusting me with your fur family members!!
Wishing everyone an incredible New Year!
Living in the mountains, we come across all kinds of wildlife. El Jefe has been taught, for both his safety and safety of the wildlife, that we do not chase it or harrass it..but we can sit and observe.
Being in the mountains, I have the luxury of El Jefe being off leash a lot. However, if he did not have 100% on point recall I would have him leashed.
Working on my relationship with my dog, building a strong sense of the cues "touch", "come", and "here"..and always setting him up for success while training these has led to moments like this. Did it happen overnight. Nope. Did I start out by having him off leash chasing wildlife to learn that bad behavior while training him? No. Did I always have him leashed in the beginning while working on those cues so I could reinforce we don't chase wildlife? Yes. Did it happen with consistency and communication in a way HE understood it? 100% yes.
Now, if only I could teach him how to help shovel snow 🧐🤣
Toughness Tuesday (well, except when the peircing wind is too cold and hurts your ears so you have to wear a hat😂)
Bronson here is all grown up (if you followed my foster story of this sweet boy with malformed legs that was just dumped in an ally at 5 weeks of age). Look how straight his front legs are now. It just took a little time, love, and commitment on the human side.
Bronson now spends his days bringing apples to his human, roaming the farm, checking out all the farm animals, playing with his big brother, Jack, and little sister, Sassy, and providing his humans with lots of laughs!
Fostering saves lives. Thankfully Planned Pethood International adoptions trusted me to foster him, and trusted my mom to adopt him. ❤️
As a small business owner, I will always do my part to give back. Whether that's through fostering, donating my skillset, donating materials, or helping at adoption events.
When Monday comes with a matching set. ❤️
Charlie and big brother Casper working their "place" cue..even though they were beyond ecstatic to see me..because I am special..well..at least to them I am! 🤣
Ladies..looking for that perfect man, but tired of online dating? Here you go!!! This boy will love you unconditionally, always be happy when you return home, will never complain about your cooking (or lack there of), or the fact you're in the same sweatshirt and with messy hair for days straight! 🤣😂 Forgot to brush your teeth first thing in the morning? He doesnt care! Spent a lot of money on botox and hair/nail maintenance?! Wil Scarlet will never complain about that!!! Want to watch all the romantic comedies without pushback, he's your man!!
You know Santa hasn't pulled through all those years of asking for a good man, so take fate into your own hands, and make it happen!!
Can you just look at this handsome boy!!! I can't help but not share Wil Scarlet, as every time I scroll past this photo it just makes me smile at how ridiculously cute he is!!!
He would love a home for the holidays (like so many dogs in rescue and in shelters!).
Let's find this adorable tonka truck a home!!
Will Scarlet's holiday wish? A place to call home.
This happy little hippo is Will Scarlet. He's been with us for 22 days, making him our longest-stay dog. He has already spent one holiday in our care, and while we love his company, we know he would be much happier with a family of his own.
Help us make Will Scarlet's wish come true by sharing this post!
As you can see, there is a lot of dog to love. He weighs about 80 pounds and throws every inch of himself at you for cuddles and kisses. He's much more of a people person than a pup person, but with a slow introduction, Will Scarlet would enjoy having a friend to share his sticks with!
Has Will Scarlet waddled into your heart yet?
Don't forget! This month is also Home for the Holidays. For each pet adopted or reunited from now until December 25, our friends Cindy and Mike at Status Symbol Auto Body will donate $25 to our lifesaving program!
By adopting Will Scarlet, you are helping us tell even more Happy Tails. For more information on this handsome meatball, visit our website: https://pets.hsppr.org/pet/a1614819.
That herding breed stare😳. I guess I need to take the subtle hint that it's time for breakfast and a hike 🧐🤔🤣
Dogs do communicate with us. It's up to us to learn their communication styles and communicate back in a way THEY understand.
For instance..me moving towards the food bin, with their puzzle feeders, properly communicated they were in fact going to be getting fed soon. 🤣

Working dog Wednesday!

When you're a rescue, but 100% willing to work on yourself!
Make no mistake, rescue dogs are wonderful!! They are capable of extraordinary things if we just take the time to let them adjust and to work with them in ways THEY NEED.
The misconception is that rescue dogs are "damaged" (this makes me even sick to type that word), but the reality of it all is..every dog needs guidance in what behaviors are acceptable for us. Yes. Even breeder dogs.
All dogs are willing to learn..we just need to find the communication styles that work for them, as comprehension is key too!
Just ask Billie here, she 100% approves of this message ❤️

POV: you’re a dog learning how to relax with your autistic trainer who says exactly what’s on her mind, and a squirrel comes to test your limits…. And you absolutely kill it! … (The training session, that is, not the squirrel (or the trainer.) 😂 *And yes I teach to respect wildlife and wouldn’t actually allow this dog to eat the squirrel… it was just being a ballsy little thing.*
Now this is what I call having your sit together. Although I think the bunny probably sit his pants. Not to worry, bunny, El Jefe has some major impulse control in his tool belt. I teach my dogs impulse control to not only keep them safe from wildlife, but to respect wildlife. When I say “respect wildlife”, El Jefe knows he is to completely leave it alone and mind his business. This is natural to dogs, so we have to work to teach them impulse control. (We all have work to do on that too…I have a hard time controlling my impulses trying to drive home with Taco Bell and to not inhale it before I leave the parking lot. 😂)
I am closed through the 5th - 12th. Please enjoy this adorable reenactment of the scene from The Bodyguard, when Kevin Costner carried Whitney Houston to safety. Always a reminder..it's ok to get laughed at while keeping your dog's feet safe from the pointed metal grates. A dogs safety always trumps the general publics opinion 😉

Hiking off leash ONLY because El Jefe has AMAZING recall every. single. time. It is our responsibility that if our dogs do not have great recall to keep them on leash for safety. Safety of your dog, safety of the dog they may run up to that is on leash, wildlife safety, and more. I can not tell you how many times I see a dog on leash being charged by an off leash dog. Or how many times I have been working with a reactive client dog on leash and have had to tackle, or chase, an off leash dog charging us..only to have the owner of the charging dog state I shouldn't have the dog I'm working with in public 😳🤦♀️ THIS. IS. UNACCEPTABLE. Reactive dogs include dogs that are frustrated being on leash but love off leash play with dogs. Reactive dogs on leash also include dogs that are feeling confined and vulnerable because they don't have the option to "flight" and now have something charging in at them..so they feel they have to respond with fight mode. I always tell my clients at my 6'2 height, if I charge you in an alley way, out of the blue, and you don't know me..it's going to make you quite uncomfortable seeing an extremely tall woman flying at you fast with no warning or no reason. You'll likely get startled or scared, especially when I get within feet of you and show no signs of slowing down. This is how a dog on leash can feel when being charged by a dog. It is not the fault of the on leash dog owner who asks you to get your dog, as on leash required areas, the off leash dog owner is always at fault. I spent a lot of time and effort training my Blue Heeler, who has a high chase drive, to listen. I met his herding instinct needs (didn't suppress them), provided mental stimulation, physically stimulation, taught him that the cues "touch" and "here" mean exactly that, which he is to return to me and check in. Every time. I spent time building an amazing bond with my dog to get to this point. #chuckit #blueheelersofinstagram #heele
My dogs love searching for treats in the ball pit. Not only does this activity provide mental stimulation, it also satisfies a need to forage for food, builds confidence, burns mental and physical stimulation, increases serotonin and dopamine..and more!! The only fallout is..sometimes balls get strewn everywhere 🤣😂 #pitbullsarelove #pittiesofinstagram #pibblesofinstagram #dontbullymybreed #heelernation #heelersofinstagram #herdingdogsofinstagram #forcefreedogtrainer #forcefreetraining #positivereinforcementtraining #positivereinforcementdogtrainer #sciencebaseddogtraining #sciencebaseddogtrainer #rescuedogsofinstagram #fosteringsaveslives
ADOPT ME PLEASE!! Meet Mateo!! He would LOVE to find a home to celebrate the holidays in!!! He is an 11 month old black lab/collie mix that was picked up as a starving stray in NM. Mateo LOVES to play with dogs, loves to train, learns quickly, and just is such a happy boy!!! How has he NOT had any adoption interest?!?!?!?! Mateo would LOVE to find a human of his very own that either has a playful dog or would set up some play dates with other dogs for him! LOLA's Rescue has some AMAZING dogs at their rescue center awaiting homes!!! Mateo is just 1 of the amazing pups!! If you're not looking to adopt, sharing the post can help! Maybe check out fostering? When Husky energy meets Blue Heeler energy. Although at this point, they were both so tired from their games of chase, that they participated in lazy play 😂🤣 So either the heeler has broken the husky..or the husky has broken the heeler. For those that have followed my Bertie story..from when she first came into rescue..through me driving to AL to do a recovery mission of her..to her being back with her fosters that ended up adopting her..here is an update! I have been lucky enough to be along side of her since day 1 ❤️ From a dog so scared of humans, (the fear flight mode was strong with this one). You'd merely look at her, and she would freeze, then take off hiding. Now Miss Bertie is sitting when asked, giving paw when asked (and sometimes even when not asked), she has found her voice and loves to talk to you (yes..she even back talks you 😂), and is a completely different dog opposed to the shut down, timid, fearful dog she was when she came into rescue!! Cody @onedogatatimecolorado rescued Bertie, while Nicole (her foster, then future adopter) followed through with training catered specifically to Bertie's needs. Yes, it took some time..but let's face it..if we go to a therapist and are expecting immediate results, we are only fooling oursleves and setting ourselves up for failure. The same applies to dogs!!! It takes time, consistency, and patience! @onedogatatimecolorado is always in need of volunteers, donations, fosters, and supporters! Even sharing their post or their adoptable dogs is helpful and allows them to keep doing what they are doing!! Bertie 1000% approves this message and hopes you support this rescue that gave her a 2nd chance at life. #belgianmalinoisofinstagram #belgianmalinois #belgianshepherd #rescuingsaveslives #adoptdontshop🐾 #fosteringsaveslives #fearfreedogtraining #fearfreedogtrainer #fearfreetraining #sciencebasedtraining #sciencebaseddogtraining #sciencebasedbehaviormodification #sciencebasedtrainer #sciencebasedbehaviortraining #sciencebaseddogtrainer #positivereinforcementtraining #positivereinforcementtrainer
Getting desensitized to a harness and leash, well, and testing out the new winter puff coat ❤️ I always love to start working on leash skills in home. We shall call this, Wiggle butt Wednesday!! Compliments of Bronson! ❤️ Fostering saves lives. Those that know me know I donate a lot of time and skillset to various local rescue groups. I also foster special needs puppies, that are abandoned early, to ensure they learn all of the things their mum and siblings would have helped teach them. A huge THANK YOU to all of my clients that support my business, refer me, and leave me reviews. You help make all of these things possible!! Together we are making differences!! ❤️ #pittiesofinstagram #pitbullsofinstagram #pibblesofinstagram #rescuedogs #adoptdontshop #ittakesavillage #dogtraining #doglife #getyoursittogether #getyoursittogetherdogtraining #coloradodogs #coloradodogsofInstagram #dogsofInstagram #denverdogs #denversmallbusiness #dogtrainer #puppytraining #positivereinforcementtraining #fearfreetraining #forcefreetraining #coloradoactivedogs #dogmanners #fosteringsaveslives #forcefreedogtrainer #fearfreedogtrainer #sciencebaseddogtraining #sciencebaseddogtrainer
