Moose the Pitbull is serving some serious Hungry Hungry Hippo vibes today! 🐾💥 Watch out, puzzle feeder, you’re about to get paw-punched into submission. Enrichment feeders aren’t just fun and games (though Moose might disagree 😜)—they’re actually super beneficial for your pup!
✨ Why Use Enrichment Feeders?
1️⃣ Mental Stimulation: Keeps your dog’s brain busy and helps reduce boredom (goodbye, chewed-up shoes 👋).
2️⃣ Slows Down Eating: Great for those pups who inhale their meals faster than you can say “sit.”
3️⃣ Stress Relief: The challenge of working for their food mimics natural foraging, which can help reduce anxiety.
4️⃣ Builds Confidence: Especially helpful for shy or anxious dogs—they’ll feel like a puzzle-solving pro!
Give your dog a chance to flex those brain muscles while having a blast. Got a favorite puzzle feeder? Share it in the comments! 🧩🐕"*
Like the puzzle feeder shown here (it's one of my favorites) you can find it on my website!

Out for a walk with some loose leash happiness.
Are they walking beside me? Nope.
Do I care? Nope.
Are they in front of me with loose leash? Yep!
Am I ok with that? Absolutely!
Do they both know how to move back to walking beside me if the trail narrows? Yeppers!
They spend most of their day inside my home, so the last thing I want to do is restrict them to my side when out on a walk.
They are giving me loose leash and walking nicely..we stop and sniff when they want to sniff..they have an enjoyable walk..and so do I ❤️
As for El Jefe..when he is in Service Dog mode..he is at my side..doing his job..but when we have relaxed fun walks that are for him (..and now Maggie until she goes to her furever home)..he gets to explore, have choices, and enjoy himself.

When you're waiting for your "butler" to get you your breakfast..but they get side tracked making their coffee instead 🤣
Mags held a bow position for a solid minute hoping I'd get the point..and I'll take that..because she could have been barking..jumping..mouthing at me instead..but she chose a behavior I preferred to communicate with me ❤️

I'M AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
Magpie is learning leash manners, not keeping tension on the leash, and waiting at intersections.
Yes, Maggie is walking in front of me and not in a heel..as I'm letting her explore her surroundings and get comfortable in her environment. They don't have to be in "heel". She's not pulling me..she's listening..and checking in..so I'm cool with her being where she is. It's not a pissing contest that she needs to walk directly beside me all the time. Her entire day is mostly my apartment..so allowing some freedom to explore when outside helps build her confidence, lessen her anxiety, and create a positive association with new spaces.
Mags is a 3yr old 21lb Frenchie that is available for adoption through @onedogatatimecolorado
How has this awesome lil bundle of personality not been adopted yet 😱

Maggie in action showing how incredibly cute she is with her bow behavior she just learned instead of jumping on me behavior we are trying to curb.
You'll also notice in the video when I give her the bow CUE..she walks away..then comes back and offers it. I didn't repeat the CUE, nor did I demand she come back and do what I asked.
I gave her some time to process what I had asked. My home is still very new to Maggie, so is working with me. I will always allow for dogs to adjust to me, and their environment, and to PROCESS.
When a dog isn't doing a CUE, my first response isn't to make them do it..my first and most natural response is to process why they aren't doing it.
It's not a pissing contest. It's me recognizing that there is a reason she isn't offering the behavior. Whether delayed processing (my ADHD side totally gets that🤷♀️), she didn't understand what I asked her as she was in day 2 of learning this CUE. Was she overstimulated. Is she still overwhelmed being in a new environment.
Don't be a dick when training. It's that simple. Help them learn. Meet them where THEY are. Guide them. Allow them to PROCESS.
If you're interested in adopting Miss Magpie, fill out an adoption application at One Dog at a Time Rescue.

Meet Mateo!! He has been in rescue for almost 2yrs now and would LOVE to find his home and people of his very own!
He is roughly 2 - 2.5yrs old possibly lab/collie mix that was picked up as a starving stray in NM.
Mateo LOVES to play with dogs, loves to train, learns quickly, and just is such a happy boy!!! How has he NOT had any adoption interest?!?!?!?!
Mateo would LOVE to find a human of his very own that either has a suoer playful dog or would set up some play dates with other dogs for him! A lot of play dates! Mateo is a dog's dog!!
@lolasrescue has some AMAZING dogs at their rescue center awaiting homes!!! Mateo is just 1 of the many amazing pups!!
If you're not looking to adopt, sharing the post can help! Maybe check out fostering? Or, (for approved volunteers) take him, or one of the other great pups, out on a day hike and pupachino outing!

POV: you’re a dog learning how to relax with your autistic trainer who says exactly what’s on her mind, and a squirrel comes to test your limits…. And you absolutely kill it! … (The training session, that is, not the squirrel (or the trainer.) 😂
*And yes I teach to respect wildlife and wouldn’t actually allow this dog to eat the squirrel… it was just being a ballsy little thing.*
Now this is what I call having your sit together. Although I think the bunny probably sit his pants.
Not to worry, bunny, El Jefe has some major impulse control in his tool belt.
I teach my dogs impulse control to not only keep them safe from wildlife, but to respect wildlife. When I say “respect wildlife”, El Jefe knows he is to completely leave it alone and mind his business.
This is natural to dogs, so we have to work to teach them impulse control. (We all have work to do on that too…I have a hard time controlling my impulses trying to drive home with Taco Bell and to not inhale it before I leave the parking lot. 😂)
I am closed through the 5th - 12th.
Please enjoy this adorable reenactment of the scene from The Bodyguard, when Kevin Costner carried Whitney Houston to safety.
Always a reminder..it's ok to get laughed at while keeping your dog's feet safe from the pointed metal grates. A dogs safety always trumps the general publics opinion 😉
Living in the mountains, we come across all kinds of wildlife. El Jefe has been taught, for both his safety and safety of the wildlife, that we do not chase it or harrass it..but we can sit and observe.
Being in the mountains, I have the luxury of El Jefe being off leash a lot. However, if he did not have 100% on point recall I would have him leashed.
Working on my relationship with my dog, building a strong sense of the cues "touch", "come", and "here"..and always setting him up for success while training these has led to moments like this. Did it happen overnight. Nope. Did I start out by having him off leash chasing wildlife to learn that bad behavior while training him? No. Did I always have him leashed in the beginning while working on those cues so I could reinforce we don't chase wildlife? Yes. Did it happen with consistency and communication in a way HE understood it? 100% yes.
Now, if only I could teach him how to help shovel snow 🧐🤣

Hiking off leash ONLY because El Jefe has AMAZING recall every. single. time.
It is our responsibility that if our dogs do not have great recall to keep them on leash for safety. Safety of your dog, safety of the dog they may run up to that is on leash, wildlife safety, and more.
I can not tell you how many times I see a dog on leash being charged by an off leash dog. Or how many times I have been working with a reactive client dog on leash and have had to tackle, or chase, an off leash dog charging us..only to have the owner of the charging dog state I shouldn't have the dog I'm working with in public 😳🤦♀️ THIS. IS. UNACCEPTABLE.
Reactive dogs include dogs that are frustrated being on leash but love off leash play with dogs. Reactive dogs on leash also include dogs that are feeling confined and vulnerable because they don't have the option to "flight" and now have something charging in at them..so they feel they have to respond with fight mode.
I always tell my clients at my 6'2 height, if I charge you in an alley way, out of the blue, and you don't know me..it's going to make you quite uncomfortable seeing an extremely tall woman flying at you fast with no warning or no reason. You'll likely get startled or scared, especially when I get within feet of you and show no signs of slowing down. This is how a dog on leash can feel when being charged by a dog. It is not the fault of the on leash dog owner who asks you to get your dog, as on leash required areas, the off leash dog owner is always at fault.
I spent a lot of time and effort training my Blue Heeler, who has a high chase drive, to listen. I met his herding instinct needs (didn't suppress them), provided mental stimulation, physically stimulation, taught him that the cues "touch" and "here" mean exactly that, which he is to return to me and check in. Every time. I spent time building an amazing bond with my dog to get to this point.
