Reya: tiny, spicy, and smarter than most of the people who ghosted you last year.

She’s 27lbs of high-speed zooms, full-snout snuggles, and “Did I just learn that cue in 0.2 seconds? Why yes, yes I did.”

This girl is FUN. She’s playful, dog-social, and absolutely down for any adventure that includes snacks, movement, and possibly rolling in dirt.

She’s been rocking it in foster care, making besties with the resident dog, and soaking up structure like a little sponge in a hot tub.

But let’s be clear: she’s not a plug-and-play dog. She’s got a big brain and big feelings, and the world can feel a lot sometimes.

She needs continued training, confidence building, and a human who gets that brilliance and sensitivity often come in the same package. (Same girl, same)

If you’re into spirited dogs who keep you on your toes and reward your effort with genuine connection and goofy affection.. congrats, Reya might be your soulmate.

🐾 Wicked smart
🐾 Loves dogs & adventures
🐾 Food motivated & learns FAST
🐾 Snuggle bug with zoomie mode
🐾 Already camped more than half your Tinder matches

Adoption apps go to 👉 uppupandaway.org

Sharing helps too.. because this little legend deserves a forever human who sees how special she is.

On the Road to Her New Life 🐾

This was Ariya on the drive to her foster home.. sitting up tall in the backseat, window down, catching new smells, and staring out like she knew something better was coming.

After 8.5 years confined to a garage, this was her very first ride toward comfort, care, and love.

Thanks to the amazing support of One Dog at a Time Rescue, Ariya was fully vetted for the first time in her life.

That’s right.. no previous vaccines, no checkups, no pain meds, no bath… until now. Her vet visit totaled nearly $800, which One Dog at a Time graciously covered before even bringing her into rescue, just to give her a chance.

Now in her foster home with the incredible Hayley and her partner, Ariya is settling in beautifully:

🛁 She got her very first bath (and the water was.. black 😳)

🦴 She went shopping at Petco for supplements and supplies

🐕 She met the house dogs and cat and did amazing

🏡 And while she did pace at first (understandable.. she’s never lived in a home before), she’s already starting to settle and exhale

Change is hard, even when it’s good. But Ariya is handling it like the brave, sweet soul she is. She's already exploring, eating, walking beside the cart like a lady, and getting more comfortable by the hour.

We’re still working to cover her vet bill, and donations can be sent directly to One Dog at a Time Rescue to help support her ongoing care. Every dollar helps give this girl the life she should have always had.

Let’s show Ariya that the world can be kind. 💛

Let’s show her she’s finally home.. even if it’s not forever just yet.

TEAMWORK MAKES RESCUE WORK

We are so excited to share that through an incredible collaboration with One Dog at a Time Rescue, sweet senior Ariya officially has a foster home! 🐾

A huge thank you to Hayley and her partner.. an amazing foster duo I’ve had the privilege of working with before when they cared for Dobby, an extreme medical case.

Their home is one of those rare places where dogs aren’t just housed.. they’re healed.

These two go above and beyond to meet the emotional and medical needs of every dog they take in, and Ariya couldn’t be in better hands.

This is the power of rescue:

💜 A neighbor spoke up.
💜 A rescue said yes.
💜 A foster team stepped in.
💜 And now, one senior dog gets the chance to know real love and comfort.

Ariya is now inside, on pain relief, starting anti-anxiety meds, and surrounded by kindness. She’s finally safe. She's finally seen. And she’s going to know what a good life feels like.

We’re still searching for Ariya’s forever home.. a person or family who will spoil her endlessly with soft beds, squeaky toys, go-find games, and unconditional love.

But today, we celebrate the team that made this possible.

Because together, we change lives.

Charms Needs a Break From the Kennel.. and a Family to Call His Own! 🐾

This handsome hiker had a brief break from kennel life, and his temp fosters were absolutely smitten! They said he was a total gentleman.. calm in the house, perfect in the car, totally chill around other dogs and new people, and sweet as pie.

“You’d never know he hasn’t lived in a home.”

Unfortunately, they’re pilots and couldn’t keep him long-term.. but now we know: Charms thrives outside the kennel!

I’ve personally spent time with Charms and can vouch for what a sweet, gentle soul he is. A few months ago, I posted about him after a professional photo shoot — he did amazing with new dogs in the playroom, posed like a pro, and soaked up all the love. 💙

He just wants what every good boy wants:

🧸 A toy,
🛏️ A cozy bed,
🤗 And someone to give him all the hugs.

Please consider fostering or adopting Charms. Let’s get this sweet, gentle guy out of the kennel and into a home where he can finally stay. 💜

📍Reach out to LOLA's Rescue to meet this charming fella!

📣 Ariya’s Vet Visit Update - And a Call for Help

We finally got Ariya into the vet! This sweet girl handled it like a champ. After 8.5 years of being locked away in a garage, ignored, and never given proper care, she let the staff examine her like she knew this was the beginning of something better.

💉 She’s now fully up to date on vaccinations
🩺 She received a senior exam and full bloodwork
🧠 She’s starting anti-anxiety medication (Prozac + Trazodone)
🦴 And we’re beginning pain management for hip arthritis (Rimadyl)

Despite everything she’s been through, the vet described her as sweet, gentle, and lovely.. with no signs of spinal issues.. a healthy heart.. and labs that look great for a senior dog.

She’s also lived peacefully around chickens, pigeons, and a small dog (even though she got the short end of the stick while the little dog lived inside). Her temperament is GOLD.

The total for her vet visit came out to $791, and we need help covering it. Every dollar helps.

We also need a foster or adopter by July 15th as the family is leaving the country, and Ariya will be left behind with nowhere to go.

The vet believes a change in environment will improve her quality of life, especially now that her pain and anxiety are being addressed.

🐾 Ariya is ready for a life she's never known—one with soft beds, air conditioning, humans who adore her, and space to just be… a dog.

If you can help with donations, please send them directly to Cody at One Dog at a Time Rescue as they have offered graciously to cover the vet bills!

If you’re able to foster or adopt, reach out ASAP.

She deserves a new chapter!

She walked right up and took the treat.

No growl. No hesitation. Just a gentle approach from a dog who's lived her entire life without much kindness.

This is Ariya, the senior German Shepherd who’s been confined to a garage for 8.5 years. Despite untreated pain, anxiety, and being overlooked, she still chooses to trust. Still chooses connection.

In this moment, I was checking the large growth on her neck while giving her a little love and reassurance. She deserves comfort. She deserves care. She deserves peace.

We’re working with One Dog at a Time Rescue to get her the vet support she’s never had.. and a new home (foster or adoptive). Please see my last post for more details and how to help.

8.5 Years in a Garage. Let That Sink In.

Her name is Ariya. She’s 8 and a half years old, and she’s spent basically her entire life locked in a garage!!

Treated like an afterthought. The family is moving out of the country next week, and their plan was to dump her. That’s it. No plan for care, no love, just good luck, old girl.

She’s never had vet care. Never been spayed. No vaccinations. No real bed. No regular affection. She’s got a visible growth on her neck, her hips are toast, and her spine is likely involved too. This girl is in constant, unmanaged pain.. and it shows. She’s anxious, of course she is. She’s lived in a space the size of a storage unit while watching another dog in the home live inside in comfort. And still…

Still she chooses humans.
Still she walked up to me for love.. someone she didn't know.
Still she licked another dog’s face through the sliding door.
Still she plays “go find” when she can muster the strength.

This dog has every reason to shut down, and instead she’s giving life another chance.

I donated my time to assess Ariya because the humans responsible for her up to this point aren’t paying for anything.. not care, not safety, not her future. But I needed her to know that someone sees her, that not all humans will fail her, and that maybe.. just maybe.. life can still feel soft and safe.

But I can’t do it alone.

Thanks to a kind neighbor, Liz, and One Dog at a Time Rescue, Ariya now has a lifeline.. but that lifeline needs real resources. She needs:

Pain management meds

Anti-anxiety support

Bloodwork

Full exam

Vaccinations

A soft place to land

And maybe for the first time ever… peace.

We can't undo 8.5 years of neglect, but we can damn sure try to give her some dignity, love, and relief in whatever time she has left.

If you're in a position to help, please send donations directly to Cody at One Dog at a Time Rescue. Even small donations make a difference for dogs like Ariya.. the ones who are forgotten until it’s too late.

Let’s show her that she was always worth more than a concrete floor and four walls.

🚨 Got a 3D printer and a soft spot for sassy dogs? 🚨

We’re looking for someone who can help with a lightweight prosthetic or rear-leg stabilizer for Howie.. a tiny tripod with a big personality.

Howie’s missing his back right leg, and he’s been compensating by shifting his only back leg inward.. which is starting to put serious pressure on his hip. We’re hoping to get ahead of it now with a custom solution to help support that leg, reduce discomfort, and protect his long-term mobility.

Because let’s be real: Howie’s not about that “take it easy” life.

He’s a fun-loving, treat-demanding, nose-bopping firecracker who thrives on freedom, movement, and making his opinions known. (If you’re too slow with the snacks, he will point out exactly where you last left them.)

We want to keep him feeling good and moving strong.. before pain or mobility loss messes with his spark.

If you (or someone you know) has a 3D printer.. printing experience.. prosthetic knowledge.. or a clever idea for a rear-end support.. let’s talk!

📍We’re in Colorado but open to remote help.

Help us keep Howie strutting like the sassy little legend he is. 🐾

👅 Tongue Out Tuesday, Sponsored by Spuds 👅

📍 Available for adoption through

Some dogs do Tongue Out Tuesday. Spuds embodies it. We’re talking all tongue, full-time gravity problem, and a whole lotta charm.

Spuds is a chill, deaf boy with a tongue like a fruit roll-up, the heart of a Hallmark movie sidekick, and a low tolerance for people being late with snacks.

Here’s what you need to know about our handsome mushball:

💤 Deaf — and deeply committed to nap life
Spuds had a foster home before, but he was returned after a toddler startled him awake and he reacted with a warning nip. He’s deaf.. he couldn’t hear the kid coming, and being woken suddenly startled him. That’s not bad behavior.. that’s a dog saying, “Please don’t do that.”

So here’s your reminder: if a dog is asleep, let them sleep. Respect a sleeping dog.. especially when the dog can’t hear you coming.🤦‍♀️

🛋 Loves couches, belly rubs, and sharing your personal space
👅 Tongue is basically a weighted blanket for his chin
🐶 Cool with other dogs at a distance.. he’s not leash reactive or looking for beef, but if your dog’s a face-smoocher, Spuds is gonna file a complaint
💩 Potty trained with zero accidents in his current foster home
❤️ Velcro dog energy, but prefers his own bed at night like a respectful roommate

He’s shy at first, but once he decides you’re his person? Game over. He’s loyal, snuggly, and will probably follow you into the bathroom. We apologize in advance.. but honestly.. Who doesn't need a little moral support while in the loo 🤷🏻‍♀️

So if you’re looking for a low-drama, high-drool, tongue-danglin’ sweetheart with no time for toddler nonsense or dog park politics… Spuds is ready to join your couch crew.

Adopt Spuds. Adopt all of that tongue. Adopt perfection.

The Bow Tie Bandits: Patio Edition 🐾☕🍻

El Jefe (left) and Atticus (right) reporting for duty.. suited up in bow ties and ready to pretend they’re sophisticated gentlemen who sip cold brew and discuss current events.

Don’t be fooled. One of these guys is emotionally intense and fueled by chaos. (It’s Atticus. Also me🤣.)

Here we were working on patio relaxation.. helping Atticus learn to settle and just be chill in public spaces like coffee shops, breweries, and patios.

I do real life, real in-life sessions because your dog isn’t going to live their best life in your home.. they’re going to live it next to your feet while you try to drink a beer before it gets warm.

We absolutely set him up for success with a hike first.. because asking a spicy little tornado to relax without an outlet first is just setting everyone up for mutual frustration.

Atticus has come a long way. When we first started, everything was scary or overstimulating or both. Whining, barking, pacing—he was like “the floor is lava and so is my nervous system.”

But now? Now he’s learning how to take a breath and realize not everything is an emergency. He's working on it. We both are.. and he's likely succeeding more than me 🤣

The majority of the patio session was him lying down and practicing real relaxation, but I’ll absolutely take a calm sit for a dog who’s made this much progress. When you start with a dog whose nervous system is shot, even a calm stand can be a win. It’s all about meeting the dog where they are, not demanding a perfect down from day one. We build toward that. Stepping stones, not sink-or-swim.

Also, yes—I had to get a pic of these two in their bow ties. Don’t act like you wouldn’t.

🐾 Spotted on today’s hike:

– One bear cub
– One fluffy forest fox
– A speckled mountain gremlin
– A stoic trail scout
– And one feral redhead with snacks in her backpack and five different training plans running in her head at all times

Just another day in the Colorado wilds, wrangling a crew of highly expressive "wildlife" and reminding them that sit happens.. even on slippery boulders.

This kind of hike isn’t just for fun.. it’s a moving classroom. Confidence-building, cue reinforcement, and just enough chaos to keep things spicy. 🥵

If your own little forest goblin is struggling with focus, reactivity, or just needs some guidance to stop yelling at the wind, I help folks get their sit together.. in town, on trail, and everywhere in between.
