I did a little experiment today with my Boozey and Loki.. who had experienced shock collars TWO YEARS ago (I didn't know any better, honestly) Worth the watch if you were ever curious how your dog really feels about "tools". I promise there are better methods you will not regret! www.averygemk9.com
George Russet Potatoe is back for a few days! I got to spend some weeks with this boy last summer while his family was on vacay.. he's back for boarding this week🥰
Tillyanne got a crash course in loose leash walking and basic manners! She's a strong little rescue who is very loved! Reach out to set up your first session!
Sweet Charlie got his first steps on helping him become less reactive around dogs and feel more comfortable within his environment 🥰
I got to help out Iowa County Humane Society today 🥰 Terry is an energetic little dude with a spunky personality! We set up a little training regimen to help him be successfully adopted out! His future humans are going to have a very loyal little boy! He will be available for adoption soon!!
I got to meet Max today😆 He is a loveable Golden.. but is a handful to say the least! His humans and I decided a board and train to get him to a more manageable pup is best for his family! I can't wait to spend 12 days with this boi🥰
Hello everyone!! I am back from vacation and into the swing of things!! We are adjusting our kids schedule.. so I have been working on finding child care and getting your sessions on the books! I apologize if it's taking a bit for me to confirm.. Kids K9's and Chaos is what my life runs on🙃.. life is busy.. but I love it! So I thank you for your patience and will get to helping each of you as soon as I can wiggle your sessions in!!
❗️I will be on vacation through the end of the month! I will try to be available through messenger at random times... but please be patient while I enjoy time with family and friends!
Reactive Dogs are my favorite.. helping humans understand their animals and how to set them up for success.. makes my heart so happy.. this is our 4th session... our 1st one we were 100+ feet away.. and now look at them 😭🥰
We did a puppy play date for Gretchen! She has always needed a slow intro to dogs.. but with guidance on her body language.. we were able to get her to play with 2 new doggy friends🥰
Them: "Why are you rewarding the dog for being on the table??!!"
Me: "Because if that's how he feels comfortable meeting people.. that's how I'm going to let him meet people.. we aren't working on obedience or manners right now.. trust is our first step... I don't train perfect robot dogs.. I train at the comfort of each dog🥰"
I will be in vacation from the 22nd-31st! So I will not be available for insight.. I have 3 available training slots from now until the 22nd! if you are interested please visit my website and fill out a training request form www.averygemk9.com (picture of Scooby Doo available through www.bemyfurevers.com 517762ds and also my latest book that is blowing my mind🤯) for real.. animals fascinate me!!
I've been getting TONS of emails asking why I switched from aversive tools to positive reinforcement... I used to believe these tools were "needed" especially owning a German Shepherd and Rottweilers... turns out the only thing "needed" was a little bit more time.. and the results speak for themselves💕.
This is NOT a judgemental thing.. I am simply spreading knowledge on what I have learned.. and want to share it... for both you and your pups!
Scooby Doo and Princess Peach were able to join my reactive dog group class!! The different feels in the room and how new dogs communicate with eachother continues to absolutely fascinate me!!
Basic Obedience Group Class final day!!! Yuma originally started being my client last winter.. He pulled on the leash and would almost yank your arm out of socket, was reactive to humans, and had little to no basic obedience skills.. LOOK AT HIM!!!! Last night he accepted pets from people, has his "sit" and "down" a "wait" that his human can walk all the way around him and he has amazing leash skills now 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 When I see dogs.. especially LARGE "scary" dogs.. make such amazing progress through positive reinforcement.. it makes me so giddy I could cry!!

Yesterday was a busy day full of training!!
Nani is a sweet older girl whose humans just wanted some guidance on keeping her training as positive as possible as she is a cancer survivor and they just want her to have the bestest life ever!
Bourbon and Lux just moved to the country and needed some help learning boundaries and working on that rocket recall!
Patti was able to make amazing strides on her "freeze" from a distance and was so good to work with her again after a crazy start to summer!
Lenny didn't have the best start at life.. and has some insecurities around new people and getting pets.. so we set up some homework making him really focus on his humans to cut down any future reactivity problems.. and how to slowly add more and more comfortable pets into his life💕💕
Basic Obedience and Reactive Dog Classes tonight🥰🥳🥳 I will get to my emails as soon as possible!! Love Love Love working with all these puppers!!
Reactive and Basic Obedience classes canceled for tonight!! The heat is just too much for the poor pups (and us.. ha!) ... Basic Obedience.. check your emails for tonight's lesson plan! Reactive Dog - make up class TBD
Sprocket was a delight to see again last night! He has been through alot lately.. was found a stray.. went to a shelter.. went to a foster home.. now his furever family needed some first steps on getting him to transition to his new life🥰
I got to finally meet Rox last night! She has some insecurities with men and other dogs.. so her humans have some homework conditioning her to some things.. and we will start introduction work next week!
I have been a little busy in the rescue world.. so I haven't done alot of videos on my board and train, Lilly!! Doesn't mean I haven't been working with her though🥰 This is all in one take - does she still have work to do? absolutely! Dog training is never ending and constantly working and bonding with your pup! Lilly's humans will get training and all the tips for continuing with her in her environment!
Lilly is an anxious golden.. so she LOVES to be on top of her person and paced constantly when I first got her.. she almost pulled me right over going for a walk (and that is not an easy task, lol!) now.. she barely even needs a leash and checks in constantly, is working on that rocket recall, door thresholds, sit, down, couch (so she can be invited up once calm - YES I am 10000% for your animals on the couch and sleeping with you - if that's what you want!) "off" for counter surfing and when she needs to calm some, along with "leave it"!!
I am so so proud of her!
I got to help guide Millie today! She is dog reactive and nervous with new people coming into her home.. her humans couldn't make it to the Reactive Dog Group Classes.. so we set up a 1 on 1 session and will continue privately 🥰
Lilly is coming so far in her impulse control.. she used to pace and pull non stop.. she's learning to relax and be neutral within her environment.. with kids and a baseball game.. this is HUGE for her!!
It has been a busy start to Summer vacation!! If you have reached out to me.. and haven't heard back in a few days.. please reach back out!! I have tried to go through all my messages on all platforms and I think I'm caught up!! If I missed you.. I deeply apologize and look forward to hearing from you.. again😉!
Today was a BUSY day!! I got to work with Otis, Russell & Sadie dogs on reactivity/over excitement... King, Louie, Yuma, Halo, Rusty & Bauer dogs on basic obedience.... Scooby Doo dog on collar reactivity and being more comfortable around people.. Princes Peach dog on being comfortable around other dogs.. Loki & Boozey helping with that.. and Lilly on her loose leash walking and basic manners!!
Today was an eventful day.. but I'm so thankful I finally found what I want to do when I grow up🥰
We are working on slow intro's to kids and dogs.. she loves my daughter and is warming up very nicely to dogs! After being on her own for 3 weeks.. the entire world becomes a scary place.. imagine your life with never reading a book, watching TV, or exploring the internet... dogs only learn the life that happens right in front of them.. and from what I.am observing.. this sweet girl hasn't had the best life.. but still has so so much love to give!! If her owners doesn't claim her by Tuesday morning.. she will be vetted and made available for adoption 🥰 My daughter has given her the name "Princess Peach" and I think that fits her perfectly 💕
Meet Scooby!! He was an emergency transfer from ICHS - he needed a calmer environment than what any animal shelter can offer a dog.. so working together and transferring to Be My FurEvers.. we got Scooby in a calm, controlled, quiet and slower moving space! I will be working on some of his behaviors (more details to follow) and hopefully he will be made available for adoption in the future!! This is what rescue and dog training is all about🥰.. working together to set every dog up for success.. certain dogs won't thrive in certain environments.. and that's ok!! So finding an environment that allows Scooby to potentially thrive.. after being thrown out of a car with 14 others.. is setting him.. and his humans up for success! Follow along to keep up with Scooby's story!!

Proper socialization.. no leash pops.. no scolding.. working at the dogs distance and level of comfort💕
Ever wonder how a positive reinforcement board and train works?? Observing, learning the dog in front of you, learning what is most valuable to the dog, and training the dog in front of you! There is no one size fits all in dog training!

It was hot out today.. so we did our first group session in doors🥹🥹 so so happy with how far these dogs have come in their first couple weeks!!

Reactive Dog Class is rapidly becoming my favorite thing!! Watching dogs that are uncomfortable at far distances.. learn at their pace.. that their human is there and they are safe!! **you do NOT need aversive methods to see AMAZING results!**
Yesterday was a busy day training!! Patti girl is coming SO FAR from when I first worked with her! She was barely manageable on a leash.. now just LOOK at her holding her "freeze" with so many temptations around!! Shout out to The Shoe Box and Mazo Hardware for being so pet friendly and accepting!!
Kaydee has been so fun to work with! Smart dogs will often train us before we even know what is happening 😝 and Kaydee is one of the smartest 🥰
worked on: door thresholds, sit, auto sits with loose leash, recall, downs, leave it's, and remaining calm and focusing on his person.
So proud of this boys progress on his 12 day B&T! Worked on: door thresholds, sit, auto sits with loose leash, recall, downs, leave it's, and remaining calm and focusing on his person.. all done positively, no fear or pain... patience and communication paid off AMAZING!!🥰
This boy is part of our 12 day board and train program.. I am SO PROUD of how far this boy has already come!!
Patti is enrolled in the "Polishing the Gem" option. This is where I take your dog 1 day for an hour every week.. or whatever works in your schedule.. and work on generalizing their commands. Different environments, different distractions, different places.. getting her to be a well rounded, easily managed dog, in multiple settings! Today we just started on a stay with an auto down. Patti gets a little excited when people walk by her house.. so we are working on a very strong stay to help her people feel safer when others walk by.. she even got tested with a dog in the distance she was doing SO GOOD!! It will take time to get it a reliable command from a distance.. but so far what I have seen with this pup.. anything is possible🥰.
