Wellness Wednesday: letting your dog sniff is good for their brain, stress levels, and heart rate! Pausing for a sniff lowers your dog's heart rate and stress levels, and can actually help tire them out more than running. Do you notice a difference when you let your dog sniff? Let us know in the comments!

For dogs who enjoy the company of other canine friends, playtime offers physical and mental benefits. Dogs are social beings, just like humans, and spending time together is good for their well-being. However, dogs can be picky about their playmates, so finding compatible pals is important. Introducing your dog to other dogs by going on parallel walks together can help them get acquainted and see if they get along.

Have you ever tried ? It's kind of like AirBnB for dog friendly spaces: you can rent someone's property to have a private dog park just for you and your pup. It's amazing for all dogs, but especially for dogs that struggle with reactivity around strangers or other dogs. Do you have a favorite Sniff Spot? Let us know in the comments!

FAQ Friday: why did my dog behave aggressively if his tail was wagging?

This is a really common point of confusion: doesn't a wagging tail mean your dog was happy? Unfortunately, no. Yes, some tail wags are happy - but tail wagging can also indicate distress, arousal, aggression, or fear. So how do you know the difference?

-A high, flagged tail (like in this photo) can indicate aggression and arousal, especially if the tail is wagging very quickly in short wags.

-A tail level to the spine swinging in big, wide swings or in big circles ("helicopter tail") indicates friendly, relaxed feelings.

-A tail dropped below the spine and wagging quickly (either dropped near the legs or tucked underneath your dog) can indicate nervousness and fear.

Have you noticed your dog's various emotions around wagging their tail? Any you're confused about? Let us know in the comments!

No yard for your reactive dog? No provlem! We love — you can rent someone else’s yard for your dog to play in! They have them all over the country. Since Fenrir moved to Massachusetts with Lauren, her favorite has been in Connecticut! But there are a lot in the Eugene/Springfield area in Oregon too!

This is not a paid ad, we just love SniffSpot a lot 😂

Having a portable ‘zen mat’ can help anxious dogs acclimate to new environments. This is anxious/reactive dog Tamara. She’s relaxing with her people outside of a dog park she’s never visited before thanks to the positive association they’ve built with her special blanket. Way to chill, Tamara! 🐾

Traveling with a variety of treats can be challenging while camping/hiking/adventuring. Squeezable pouches make for a convenient and tasty treat for your pup. They are essentially mess free and can also be easily stashed in a pocket or bag.
What special treats does your dog enjoy while in the outdoors?
