No yard for your reactive dog? No provlem! We love — you can rent someone else’s yard for your dog to play in! They have them all over the country. Since Fenrir moved to Massachusetts with Lauren, her favorite has been in Connecticut! But there are a lot in the Eugene/Springfield area in Oregon too!

This is not a paid ad, we just love SniffSpot a lot 😂

Having a portable ‘zen mat’ can help anxious dogs acclimate to new environments. This is anxious/reactive dog Tamara. She’s relaxing with her people outside of a dog park she’s never visited before thanks to the positive association they’ve built with her special blanket. Way to chill, Tamara! 🐾

Traveling with a variety of treats can be challenging while camping/hiking/adventuring. Squeezable pouches make for a convenient and tasty treat for your pup. They are essentially mess free and can also be easily stashed in a pocket or bag.
What special treats does your dog enjoy while in the outdoors?

A chin rest is a great behavior for helping with relaxation or for use as a “start button” for cooperative care!

Nail clipping doesn’t have to be a battle! Our trainer Jesse shows you how to break it down using pattern games and shaping to make it smooth and fun for everyone involved. When you practice with your own dog, make sure you take it slow—going at your dog’s pace lets them get comfortable with each step so they’ll feel great about the finished behavior!

This is Billy. Billy is dog reactive and gets very upset at the fence when other dogs in the neighborhood walk by. He is able to relax and enjoy his yard now that his parents put up a secondary fence a foot or two away from the main fence line. Did you know some chicken wire and a few poles could be such a game changer? Pet parents willing to give this a try give it a 10/10

“The art of doing less”
Relaxing and watching the world go by can be a great skill for young pups to learn, but it must be practiced. Kali, a year old aussiedoodle, is practicing after a nice training walk with our trainer Keanna!

Listen to your dog!

This morning, Fen kept staring at me while I was getting ready for the day. Like, really intently staring. For about 10 minutes. I finally said “what’s wrong? Show me?” And followed her downstairs.

She brought me to her papasan chair…where our 9lb cat is currently sleeping (in flagrant disregard of posted signage stating it is reserved for the dog). She stood in front of the chair and stared at me. I told her that I wasn’t going to make the cat move.

She walked back in forth in front of the chair a couple times, then resigned herself to the floor. I assume in protest, as she also has access to a comfy couch.

It was an awesome experience in how blatantly our dogs can tell us what they need! Even if I won’t boot the senior cat to accommodate 😂

Have you had any cool experiences where your dog told you blatantly what they wanted?

Lemon gets worried about what lies past the front door, so our trainer Jesse worked on keeping her calm and connected using pattern games. This is day one and day two with the front door wide open. Creating predictable patterns around scary situations can do a ton to relieve your dog’s fear and stress!

If you’re looking for an easy but tasty treat for hikes and adventures, try lickables in a pouch! Dog safe baby foods work great, and you can even make your own lickables with a backpacking food tube and some peanut butter or cream cheese!

Meet the trainer’s dog!

Name: Oshie
Trainer/Pet Parent: Keanna
Age: 7ish
Breed: unknown (poodle/terrier mix?)
Acquired from: found as a stray on the streets on California
On life with Oshie: “he’s not the dog I wanted but he’s the dog I needed. Teaching me so much about boundaries and that the more you listen to the dog’s “no’s”, the stronger the relationship becomes!
Favorite thing about him: “that his personality shines the most when we are hiking/camping/adventuring!”

Dogs are amazing. Who needs eyes to play fetch? Not Helena! Our trainer Jesse also offers pet sitting and had the pleasure of watching ‘s pups! Check out this video of Helena using her hearing to find and retrieve her toy!

Snuffling for treats in a mat or in the grass gets your dog sniffing, and sniffing lowers their heart rate! Our trainer Keanna has her client Tillie using a snuffle mat between training repetitions to help her relax and keep her brain ready for learning.

Handsome boy Henry is a livestock guardian mix. LGDs tend to be very suspicious of anything they don’t recognize, and are bred to protect their herd. Unfortunately for Henry, that doesn’t always translate well to a more urban environment.

Fortunately for Henry, his mom is working hard with our trainer Jesse to work on turning away from scary things and trusting her to tell him things are safe. Good work, team Henry!

Thanks for the kind words, Bailee! Enjoy the wider world with Mona ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Focus: experiencing the world to build confidence as she grows!

Puppy socialization doesn’t stop at 16 weeks! Dogs are learning and growing long after that. Continuing the positive experiences you’ve built on when they were young is super important even into young adulthood!

Mona’s mom hired our behavior specialist Jesse when Mona started refusing to go for walks or get in the car. Mona has a lot of anxiety and after a loud truck scared her one night, she struggled to bounce back. With Jesse’s help and her mom’s hard work, Mona has come leaps and bounds! Check out her mom’s latest update:

“Miss Mona got in the car today and went for a hike nearby!!!!! It took a while to get her in the car. on her first jump in, I decided to give it a shot. She did sooo well on the hike, taking me further than I thought she would. Then she wanted to turn around so we did.

She seems to prefer hopping into the backseat as opposed to the trunk during training. She rode in the backseat the way to the hike, then in the trunk inside her crate on the way home.

She’s so sleepy and snuggly now after all that excitement. We will have to see how she does the next time I try to get her in the car.

We also started trying to walk down the driveway towards Kincaid park. We haven’t made it to the road yet but she’s doing great with it!

Thank you so much for your help. “

We are so proud of Mona and her mom!!
