The behind CBD:

The article studies cytokine storms, which is the excessive production of inflammatory molecules causing hyperinflammation (aka very very bad). Such events can exacerbate the severity of diseases like COVID-19 and other inflammatory conditions
A specific high-CBD extract, termed CBD-X, was found to significantly reduce the production of pro-inflammatory molecules (cytokines) in human immune cells
In scientific lingo (for the nerds), CBD treatment reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines TNFa and IL-1b, while increasing the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. Furthermore, CBD hindered T-cell migration induced by the chemoattractant SDF1 and reduced the phosphorylation levels of T cell receptor (TCR) signaling proteins, indicating an inhibitory effect on TCR activation (aka, immune cells were not being activated, in this case it's a good thing)
Overall, the authors also showed that CBD reduced leukocyte migration to the lungs and decreased levels of various inflammatory markers
This example is specific for lung inflammation, e.g. following infection, but it can apply to other situations such as inflammation of the joints, very common in pets

NO!! But why...or how?! Read on...
In this interesting scientific review article, two scientists from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, N. Zlebnick and J. Cheer, describe the main mechanisms of action of CBD and THC
THC is the active molecule from ma*****na that is responsible for weed's psychoactive effect.
It is very similar in structure to a molecule in your brain (anandamide) that binds to the CB1 receptor (also see: Acta Pharmacol Sin. 2019 Mar; 40(3): 309–323, NIDA. 13 Apr. 2021)
Binding to the CB1 receptor, among others, alters the function of the hippocampus and orbitofrontal cortex, e.g. affecting focus, memory and coordination...this is why THC is psychoactive!
CBD, the main molecule in h**p, does NOT bind that well to the CB1 receptor, rather, it seems to block this receptor instead of activating it
CBD even seems to stop the anxiety induced by THC use (see Psychopharmacology. 1982;76(3):245–50), and help with reducing overall anxiety
Conclusion - this is the most common question out there: will CBD make you (or your pet) high/stoned? The answer is a sounding NO!! It is pharmacologically impossible for CBD to do so!!

The behind CBD:
How long does CBD take to work?
(Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Vol 46, Issue1, Jan 2023, 25-33)
Scientist gave different concentrations of CBD oil to eight healthy cats, four male and four female. They then measured CBD concentration in blood, and various other physiological parameters
The maximum blood concentration of CBD, called Tmax, was observed between 2-3 hours. It took about 9 hours, in average, to reduce that concentration by half
Reduced creatinine is an indicator of better kidney functions. In this study, creatinine was high at the beginning of the study (at 0 hours), but decreased 24 hours after receiving CBD
There were no observable adverse events in this study
Overall, this study suggests that it takes a couple of hours for CBD to reach its peak, thus, the maximum effect may be observed within a couple of hours of giving your CBD to your cat. .
