We are HOME from the hospital!

Back to milking this morning and we have NO jars to put milk out front. 😬

I washed a dozen last before we were flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and now we don’t have a single quart jar.

If you have any jars from milk sales could you please, pretty please bring them back? You can put them on the porch or in the little fridge out front, and we will continue milk sales once we have some.

Thanks for all you support and prayers while Junie was in the hospital, we so appreciate them. 🥰🥰

Junie, who we named our June Bug Farms for, has been trying to get over a bad run with Mycoplasma Pneumonia, and has been in the hospital since Thursday night.

Please be understanding with the milk/cheese/egg rotation while Nathan and Haley fill in the gaps.

We love you guys and will be back in production late this week, right? Right? 😂Welp, that’s what we are praying for!

We talk a lot about our goats, but we have a few other critters here on the farm. Including KITTENS.

Our best guess is that Mama Cat was coyote-ied and left these five, yes FIVE, babies behind. Three girls (black) and two boys (cow spotted) and Oliver and Fisher have officially adopted the boys, naming them Logan and Bessie.

Because….what else am I going to do every four hours? 😂😬💜💜💜💙💙

Oof. I know I brought this on myself.

I can’t even COUNT the number of times I’ve read about bees, dreamt about bees, talked about bees, and wished I had bees.

So the bees came.

They came to the wrong place (my chimney, my dead tree, and the eaves of my house. I was going to keep them. I wanted to keep them.

But my kids and their friends are getting stung. And my eaves will collapse with honey weight. 🤦‍♀️

So the bees have to go. Sad, but true.

But I will forever remember the time I willed not one, but THREE hives to my farm, just from sheer desire. If I can summon the bees, what else can I summon??? 🤔 🧐 🤨 😂😂😂😂😂

Sooooo, what are the chances of there being a FIVE yolker egg???? Look how cute it is! 🤩

I love Mondays. I really do. I love all the promise and expectation that a Monday can hold, and LOVE that my week isn’t all full up to the very tippy top yet.

Today was a day that I woke up, started laundry, did chores, showered, brought children to school, graded math papers, taught (a tiny bit) of math, donated blood (finally got a free t shirt), had a delicious lunch from Meg’s Place with Naomi & Rex, came home and switched laundry, left to go pick up kids, swung by and got groceries, got diner in the oven (thanks to Haley), folded laundry, served dinner, got the girls cleaned up, went to the play with Kristine and Marcia and my dad, came home, sorted allllll the socks, graded math, and am now snuggling into bed.

I really really love me a good, productive Monday. 😍🥰

Well, I think I may have been a bit vague in my last post - while I did say I downsized my herd, I didn’t off-load my goats completely.

I kept these two yearling girls, still in milk, who I milk by hand every morning. It takes me about 30 minutes total to get chores done and then about 5 to put the milk away, so it’s actually REALLY nice to get up, go outside, and spend a minute outside every morning.

Meet Morning Glory (brown one) and Moonflower (black one), two of the most opposite half sisters you could imagine!

While Moonflower is sweet, docile, and harder to milk, Morning Glory is moody, loud, and milks like a dream!

We purchased these two girls from M’Sagebrush Acres last year and they’ve been a gorgeous addition to our micro farm. Funny thing is that these two are from the Kismet breeding line, which a genetic line my mom used in the 1980’s when we were professionally showing our goats, and now that line has come back to me in my tiny corner of the world. ♾️

So, we still move forward, just a little slower.

It might just be the perfect pace.

I have been struggling on how to share this, because I don’t know how my heart can be so full and so broken in the same moment.

We said goodbye to most of our herd this weekend. We can’t afford to keep 7 goats in milk all year long and then breed them and winter them over dry (pregnant) and then start over again in spring. It just isn’t feasible.

Plus.

There is so much milk. Too much.

Plus.

I have been milking morning and night every day for the past couple of years, and milking EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. For the past 4 years.
Milking when it’s cold.
Milking when it’s hot.
Miking when I’m sick.
Milking when I’m having a major period. Milking when I’ve been up with a sick kiddo all night.
Milking on Christmas.
Milking when Nate’s gone.
Staying home to milk when he travels.
Trying to find someone to milk when we want to travel as a family.

These girls have been with me for many, many years. They’ve given me babies, and they’ve given me their milk every day.

Rain or shine.
Heat or cold.

And my friend, Crystal Leon “happened” to message me to ask for a pure bred Nubian in milk after the soap shop was sold.

I hadn’t told ANYONE about it, so I know that my Father In Heaven knew my heart hurt so bad.
Hurt for the future that had detoured.
Hurt for the dreams I had to give up.
Hurt for the loss of my every day routine.

But then - so grateful.

Grateful for the love that others have for animals.
Grateful for the inspiration that other humans have.
Grateful for kindness and service during such a transition.

Holly Hubbard, you are a connector, and I appreciate your role in all of this SO much.

I’m gonna go cry for the loss of my goats and my dreams and my goals right now, but I know that tomorrow morning I can get up and do chores in 20 minutes instead of an hour an a half, and I will embrace it and I will be grateful for it and the day will go on.

I really do love my life, and am gonna push forward with…no regrets.
