New Yorkers know there is only one way to get anywhere, QUICKLY! 🏃🏽‍♀️
Sometimes amidst the hustle and bustle, we loose the opportunity to see what makes New York City so beautiful🗽, so bold 🗣, and so proud. 👏🏻

SKoOP travels throughout many parts of New York City meeting all sorts of pet families in need of our support. One weekend, on our way to visit a patient, we saw a familiar building sign that read “Henry Street Settlement”.

The Settlement was established in 1893 by a triumphant social reformist and a health care advocate, named Lillian Ward. She and a few colleagues started the first visiting nurse service of New York City that is currently in operation today as .

The Henry Stree Settlement was originally created to help children, low-income black/brown and immigrant communities access essential health care and hygiene education. Lillian had a philosophy that everyone was entitled to accessible and essential healthcare no matter their economic status.

While the visiting nurse team delivered care to the sick, these buildings offered ESL classes, mental and woman’s health along with recreational activities like arts and music to the underserved community of LES. The Settlement later expanded to the adjacent buildings and several satellite facilities throughout New York City.

Today, this establishment serves as HSS executive and administrative offices who continue to organize support for New Yorkers and the surrounding community.

Skoop aspires to bring to veterinary medicine what Henry Street Settlement brought to it’s community, human medicine and nursing. We plan to highlight the power of a nurse’s touch and the impact it has on the longevity of a pet.

Skoop celebrates Changi and all his progress this year! 🥳🥳🥳

As pets age, they are likely to develop one or multiple medical conditions which may require close or frequent monitoring by parents and .

For Changi, his devoted parents manage several underlying conditions, one of which is Diabetes Mallitis.

A year ago, Changi experienced a diabetic crisis. This was a very scary moment in time for his parents.

After he was stabilized and discharged his parents felt overwhelmed. Weekly follow-up visits were very stressful, time consuming and expensive. They soon learned about home care nursing services for pets offered by who were able to assist with this dilemma.

SKOOP worked with their veterinary specialist at The Animal Medical Center to create a plan tailored for Changi’s conditions and needs.

Changi’s veterinarian was able to adjust the insulin regimen confidently based off these home care visits performed by SKOOP.

Changi has since gone from 10 units of insulin per day to 1 unit of insulin per day, over the past year. We like to call that collaborative progress worth celebrating! 💕🥳👏🏻💕

Changi continues to thrive through life unfazed by his underlying conditions. He continues to bring his parents joy as he ever so politely supervises there daily activities ;).

Helping pet families overcome the hardest of times is why we are here.

For balance, peace of mind and pet longevity!

Bertie and Tory joining in on festive Pride 🏳️‍🌈games. Although they look like puurrfect Rag Dolls, they both have underlying conditions which required routine medications and treatments for a cardiac and dermatological condition. (They’re perfect regardless💜).

Through the collaboration with their primary veterinarian, Dr. Lavine , dermatologist Dr. Abraham , and their parents were able to experience a relaxing and much needed vacation.

Love is love! 🏳️‍🌈💜

This poem is dedicated to anyone in VetMed or beyond who needs to hear it.

Working in the veterinary profession for over a decade, I've seen the toll it takes on our peers, our families, and our own mental health. Any social awareness is a step forward in the right direction, but for me, awareness is a verb...an action word. We can not move forward or change something without taking that first step.

It has been said that in order to change a behavior, you first have to change the thought(s) behind it. To change a thought you first have to change what you hear, tell yourself or perceive as true. It may take some time, but we ALL have the strength to rewrite our script (algorithm)....it's yours in the first place!

Sometimes ALL we need to hear are the words we need to heal. While other times the words we need to hear will not be said when we need to hear them the most. Sometimes the journey and the work is meant to be an individual assignment that leaves us stronger than we were before.

However, just in case that unbearable day presents itself and the mask gets too heavy to wear...I DARE you to play this audio or repeat a revised script you created for yourself. Something like this for example:

I am stronger than I actually think.
🗣💨
I am more than I am settling to believe.
🗣💨
Mistakes are growth opportunities
🗣💨
NO matter what, I matter.
🗣💨

The original poet may not be in our field but she sure can save a life. Share with someone who needs to hear this. From our 💜 to yours!

One love 💜

You can also check out for local rescues and everything dog related.

Also, if you need transportation around the city with your rescue check out . They drive with your pet in mind…you just come along for the ride :)

Ever get confused about who you need when your pet needs care? 🤔

It can be super confusing and scary especially when you do not have a veterinary relationship established. Whether you are new to NYC, returning, or are a native, your pet deserves to have a primary veterinarian you trust. This way when surprises arise you are not scrambling to search for who has availability.

🩺. If your pet is experiencing a new symptom, new problem, worsening of a know condition or they seem to be declining, you need to contact your veterinarian.

🕺🏼 If your pet has a condition that has ALREADY been evaluated by a veterinarian, but your struggling with their follow-up or at home recommendations. You are welcome to reach out to us.

At Skoop we work with families and veterinarians who prioritize progress and value collaborative medicine. Our clients discuss their limitations with their veterinarian who will refer them to Skoop to experiance the perks of nursing services. Many city pets struggle with anxiety during transport, which may conflict with their underlying condition like diabetes or heart disease. Other times, it may be the limitations of the owners that conflict with the neccessary recommendations set by the veterinarian. From busy work schedules, summer travel, physical or financial limitations. Together we can make a difference doing what we were born to do...like healing animals. 🐾 🩺. 💜

If you think your pet could benefit from Skoop support, complete a 'NEW CLIENT REGISTRATION' form found on our website. (link in bio).

🚨. We are not a replacement for a veterinarian or hospital visit. If you suspect your pet is experiencing an emergency bing them to the closest emergency hospital immediately. 🚨.

When a pet experiences a neurological emergency it can be a very scary moment for the pet family. A lot of confusion and unexpected financial responsibility arise. This is another example why creating a pet care savings account or purchasing a pet insurance policy is extremely important when becoming a pet parent.

Zye’s mom came to SKOOP looking for assistance, when Zye began to drag his legs after playing in the snow earlier that day. Her veterinarian was closed for the weekend and she was not sure what to do or where to go.

We referred her to the Neurology department at The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center . Zye required emergency back surgery (Hemilaminectomy) for a ruptured disc that was going to leave him paralyze for the remainder of his life if left untreated. By the way, Zye just turned 4yrs old and declining treatment was not an option.

Mom consented to surgery and he did magnificent. Roughly 48hrs later, Zye was ready for discharge. Mom had a very new and big role to play in regards to Zyes recovery. She was responsible for the following:

- 2-3 medications, given 2-3 times a day.
- Activity restriction in a padded crate.
- Heat/cold compress therapy.
- Daily physical/message therapy: PROM
- Bladder expressions every 8hrs.
- Monitor anxiety, incision, pain and overall progress.

Plus manage her own life. That phase alone can be overwhelming for the untrained hands, the busy working family, the family with kids, the multiple pet home, the elderly, or physically challenged.

Skoop helps pet parents adapt to their new roles as care givers. Discuss more in depth home care, the disease process, recovery process and/or environment adjustments. We work with your veterinary team to provide the best continuity of care for your pet.

Zye still has a few more weeks ahead of him for a full recovery. But knowing Zye, he wasn’t going to let back surgery hold him back. He has summer plans!

Just in case anyone was wondering what goes on while veterinarians are busy diagnosing, prescribing, or performing surgery. Veterinary technicians are the lifelines between pet and vet...that's why we rock!!

Show your fellow vet tech some love this week and the weeks after that...maybe just every time you see them share your appreciation for their dedication and patience.

Skoop has worked with some amazing veterinary nurses out there who do not play around with patient care. They are inspirational individuals who developed a significant amount of endurance for long hours, hard days, pull-catheters, no venous access, limited functioning equipment, on-calls, no sleep, no lunch breaks, unexpected emergencies...the list can go on. Yet they still always managed to smile, react, respond, train, and laugh while always providing the necessary care for the lives they touched. Thank you for being in our lives!

Skoop salutes you all!!! 🗣 💪🏼 💜

To all the amazing veterinary nurse talent out there in the world, this is your week to feel the love and appreciation! 👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏻

Each and every last one of you has sacrificed, rolled-with the punches and perhaps with your patients. All to keep your practice running so your patients can receive the care they need. That deserves some recognition and appreciation that extends beyond this week into forever ;). Not everyone can do what we do so always remember, you ARE extraordinary! 💫✨💫💜💜💜

Thank you…from Skoop!🥰
