Clinical Study: Seeking Dogs with Chronic Kidney Disease

We are looking for dogs with chronic kidney disease level II, III, or IV to spend one day in the hospital for a study on how dogs with kidney disease process antibiotics for urinary tract infections compared to dogs with healthy kidneys. Participants will undergo baseline bloodwork to confirm their disease stage, followed by a single oral dose of doxycycline. Dogs who live or stay locally can go home after their exam, blood collection, and medication administration. Owners may either collect urine samples at home at 9am, 1pm, and 6pm and return them to the hospital or bring their dog back at those times for sample collection in the dog walk areas/parking lot. We offer this option because many owners prefer not to leave their dogs in the hospital all day. The study will cover all costs for bloodwork and samples, and participants will receive a copy of their results. Sometimes the only hope for your pet is a clinical study. Attached is a list of current Pet Clinical Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Much of the time they will pay a stipend for travel, etc. as well as cover the medical costs. Not sure if your pet qualifies? Reach out to your veterinarian and show him the list of Clinical Studies. You may also reach out to UWM yourself.

If you are not local, reach out to a Veterinary Research Hospital closer to you.

Another educational x-ray.
Not my dog. I do not know these people.
However, note that this is a horrible x-ray and I would hope your vet could do better. Horrible positioning and contrast.
The point I want to make is that this 7 month old puppy has no hip sockets. He is probably in pain and will require thousands of dollars in surgical repair or face euthanasia. This is why I test all of my breeding animals. If they do not pass their hip testing, I do not breed them. Please be smart and get your dog from an ethical breeder who does their testing!
