Holiday tips part two! There is still time to teach your pup the place command. Place can be extremely helpful. It gives them a designated area to go to when you have company over. You can have them go to their place as guests walk through the door, guests are eating, or when being given things to keep them busy such as chew toys, treats, etc. It also gives your pup a safe space to go to when they may be feeling nervous or overwhelmed. Just remember to teach your guests to respect your pups boundaries as well and to not intrude in their safe space.

Tips to get your pup ready for guests arriving for the holidays! Part one! Family coming for the holidays can be overwhelming for both you and your pup so doing these few simple things can make this a more pleasant experience for your pup. Take your dog on a walk for about 15 min before your guests arrive. It will help release some energy and provide some mental stimulation before guests start to come. For a nervous dog I would recommend another walk for 15 minutes in the middle of having guests over as well. Running them in the yard for 15 min works too!

This month is Adopt a Senior Pet Month! People often avoid adopting a senior dog for a few reasons but the one I often hear is “they only have a few years left”, but that shouldn’t deter you from adopting, this should encourage you! Give this senior dog the opportunity to live their final years in a loving home. Let them be loved, pampered and spoiled for the few years they may have left. Let them spend their final moments in the arms of a home that loved them, even if it may have been a shorter period of time. Sometimes the senior dogs live past your expectations and have so much life, and love that’s still left. I adopted Lulu at 8 years old, thinking she’d only have a few years left and wanted to make it the best for her. Boy was I wrong! 8 years later, she’s still here. Happy, healthy, a little grumpy, but still has a lot of love to give. She’s my perfect pup and age didn’t play a factor whatsoever. Help a senior pups final moments be the best ones of their life, I promise you won’t regret it.

Elijah can be a bit of a puller on walks. Today we were working on some leash training to help reduce his pulling and keep his focus during walks. Elijah is super smart and picked up on it almost instantly!! He’s such a good boy and has made a great amount of progress!

Alice and Vee are here to remind you that October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! There’s always a misconception that shelter pups come with “issues or problems” when in reality they are just heart broken pups waiting and wanting to be loved. The bonds we are able to build these dogs are so strong and ever lasting. Shelter dogs have potential to be amazing dogs, they just need someone to give them a chance. Alice and Vee are perfect examples of how perfect a shelter dog can be. If you can, help save a life and adopt a shelter dog.

I know we haven’t been active lately, we’ve had a few things going on, but we’re back!!! 🐾 This month is National Lost Pet Prevention month! And there are so many ways to help prevent your pet from being lost, but there are also ways to make sure they get back to you! One great way to make sure your pups don’t stray away is off leash training! Teaching your pup to stay close by is a great way to ensure that if something were to happen, your dog won’t run off. Also, when letting your dogs out in the yard be sure to make sure doors, and fences are closed and there aren’t any holes or gaps where your pups can escape. When taking your dogs for a walk make sure all harnesses and collars properly fit and clips are still in good working condition. Be sure to have your dogs micro chipped and always wearing a dog tag with your contact information! Let’s do what we need to, to make sure our dogs don’t get lost and have the necessary contact information to be returned back home!

We often forget that little dogs need training just as much as larger dogs. Always remember that we want our dogs to listen to us no matter what size they are. Here are Tootsie and Red doing great with their mom on leash training. Tootsie and Red are amazing dogs that sometimes get a little reactive to dogs during their walks and like to lead the way. Now with some training Janet has complete control during walks, with Tootsie and Red listening quietly by her side. ☺️

☀️ When the suns out, it’s a great time for doggy play dates! Be sure to monitor doggy play dates and keep a look out for uneasy canine body language. If a dog looks even a slight bit uncomfortable or overwhelmed be sure to address the issue. We want everyone to be safe and be able to avoid any negative experiences or altercations for you and your dog. Everyone should have a great time on a play date, especially your pup!

What you see is a big accomplishment for a timid pup. After moving from a quiet town to a big city Vee gained a lot of fears. She became extremely scared of cars and loud noises, she would lay low and try to bolt whenever these noises were to occur. She’s made a lot of progress in being more comfortable around these loud noises and focusing on us when she gets nervous outside. We all want our pups to trust us and be able to let them know they are safe, helping a dog get over their fears is a great way to do it!

Although having your dog off leash is not permitted in most areas, it doesn’t hurt to work on off leash training with your pup! Being able to trust your dog and have the confidence in knowing your pup won’t run off is a great feeling and a good thing to work on. Whether you accidentally drop your leash or have a faulty harness, there are many unexpected scenarios where off leash training can come in handy!

It’s always beneficial to go over your dogs commands so that they stay fresh in your dogs mind. Don’t forget to add hand signals to your commands as well and go over those too! Hand signals can be very beneficial in emergency situations or during every day life, such as being on an important phone call. Going over your commands is mentally stimulating and helps build a relationship with your pup. Not sure if you noticed, Vee’s tail wouldn’t stop wagging!

In the United States there are about 3.3 million dogs that enter shelters every year, 96% have been said to not have any training whatsoever, and 47% have been documented to be surrendered due to behavioral issues. We want to lower this 47%! We want to make it possible for owners to have access to quality dog training, to prevent another pup from being surrendered to a shelter for a behavioral issue that can be fixed!
