🐾 Archie’s Dinner last night! 🐾
I like to rotate Archie’s meals. This is a mix of DIY and pre-made raw. Super convenient and nutritious!

Venison & Emu Pure blend
Veggie mix
Air dried anchovy
Fresh organic blueberries (which he spit out)
Added warm water

As pet parents, there are a lot of decisions we have to make for our pets. The biggest one, and arguably the most impactful, is their diet.

We’ve been conditioned to feed the convenient and often cheap option for our pets: kibble.

But, it is becoming more and more common for pet parents to begin incorporating fresh food in their bowl.

This is an amazing first step! If you are already doing this, I encourage you to take the next step and move up on the ranking list - no matter which step you’re on currently.

If you feed kibble, try a canned. If you feed canned, try a lightly cooked, etc. this can be one meal a day or a couple meals a week to start!

I promise you will start noticing a difference!

Alyssa Kola, CPCN. Super exciting! If you know me, you know that I never stop learning. This was my most recent certification through Feed Real Institute and even with my extensive studies prior to this, I still learned so much!

Now that I am a Certified Professional Canine Nutritionist (CPCN), I can offer even more in my Coaching Program for pet parents!

Side note: The CPCN course was also recently RACE-approved for veterinarians and others needing CE’s which creates more incentive for them to take the course and learn about feeding FRESH FOODS rather than the usual dry kibble. This is a HUGE step in the right direction for the health of our pets 🐾

When you compare a raw-fed dog to a strictly kibble-fed dog, you will noticed some key differences. Kibble fed dogs often have dull coats, skin issues, thick tartar on their teeth, stinky breath, etc.

If you’re able to incorporate 1 meal a day raw or a couple of times a week; Or even start with food toppers that will give a nutrient boost - you’ll start to see positive changes on your pet’s outward appearance and overall health.

Is your dog just SURVIVING or fully THRIVING? We have been conditioned by conventional vets, sneaky marketing tactics, & big greedy companies who tell us that kibble is the right way to feed our pets.

Our dogs and cats are carnivores so why are we feeding carb-filled diets? where’s the protein from animal sources (not plant sources)?

When is the last time you read the ingredients list on the back of the bag? Does it seem species-appropriate?

Have you ever actually researched when kibble was created and why? Some big reasons is that it is convenient, cheap to manufacture, and brings in a lot of money to big companies!

Many of these enormous companies have their hands in many other industries like Mars, Nestle, & General Mills whose sole focus isn’t on feeding healthy food to our pets.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I encourage you to consider some of these things. If kibble is what you can afford for your pet, start incorporating some fresh food to their bowl. (You can reference my post about fresh food toppers for inspiration or watch my Live replay that I did!)

One of my biggest pet peeves! This should be common sense, but I see it all too often.

I just worked at a vendor event last weekend and the amount of dogs that were being walked on the hot black pavement was heart breaking. And not only that, it was in the high 90s with 80%+ humidity. That is not the time nor place to have dogs outside.

And don’t get me started on leaving pets in a hot car.

I know the majority of people who follow me are already aware of this, but please share with your friends and family. 🐾

Does your dog smell like a dog? It could be ye**ty skin or other imbalance that’s causing it.

Your dog shouldn’t have the stereotypical “dog smell” and if they do, it’s time to take a closer look at their health.

Also - a dog shouldn’t have stinky breath from tartar and plaque buildup. It’s not normal and definitely not something to take lightly!

4 reasons why Saccharomyces boulardii should be in your probiotic rotation!

Gut health and immunity are so tightly linked, so making sure your pet has a healthy gut microbiome is super important for their longevity! 

I also look for brands that use soil-based probiotics (Bacilli strains) since they are spore-forming and can fight against the harmful bacteria in the gut.

What’s in your Dog’s Bowl?

The saying “you are what you eat” applies to our four-legged friends too! Here are some simple, no brainer add ins to Boost the Bowl!

Especially if it is highly processed kibble - your pet is craving some whole food, bioavailable nutrients!

🥚crack an egg on top of the food!
(farm fresh & unwashed? Feed the shell too!)
A great source of vitamin E for skin, heart, and immune health and other important vitamins.

🐟 toss in some anchovy, capelin, or salmon for added omega-3 fatty acids to combat inflammation. (Air dried from are convenient and easy to feed).

🥛add a splash of kefir or goat milk!
Full of beneficial probiotics for gut health and other valuable vitamins. I’m a big fan of fermented goat milk.

🥦🥕 purée some veggies and add a spoonful! Pureeing will help your pup digest and utilize the vitamins packed inside the veggies. *no onion*
