I always wanted a big family and dogs. Being Hungarian, I decided to get a Hungarian vizsla for my family. We did not bring him from Hungary, we bought him in the US Unfortunatelly 4 years later we lost him to cancer. Before he died we added a second vizsla and shortly after adopted one. Love this breed, but I saw and heared from others about the many challenges the overbreeding causes...allergies
and cancer again...we lost our second V at age 11. Our last V is 10 now and has some medical issues. A couple of years ago one of my sons showed me a photo of a Hungarian dog, a Mudi, a cifra/black merle and asked me to get one. After a long research and waiting for the right puppy, we picked up our first Mudi from Hungary, 3 years ago. I fell in love with the breed. I had a lot to learn, I was never into herding, agility and never showed a dog in a ring. Covid crossed out plans first, but we finally got to attend some shows and earned some titles. Once I fell in love with them, I decided that I will try to start a small scale breeding program, where my dogs will come from Hungary, or cross bred with dogs imported from Hungary. What the most important for me is a healthy, balanced dog. Doing all the medical tests necessary, getting all the DNA testing done, doing my research on new pups and their pedigree, inbreeding, trying to rule out possible issues in their line before mathing them up. During this journey I met many hungarian breeders and learned a lot. I have started slow and in no rush. I attend shows with my dogs, not many, and not pushing my dogs to attend just to get more ribbons and points. In my eyes a champion is a dog that you take home and she is the perfect match for your family, healthy, balanced, loves you, loyal, and allowed to do what she or he loves to do. Yes, a mudi is not for everybody. You will hear that a lot. My first 2 mudis are not so big on shows, they love fisbee and ball, water sports and racing. They love walks, runs and games. My female, Csillag has a very high drive to herd and guard, but also loves the water, loves to learn new things, which she can achieve in minutes. She communicates with "talking buttons" with me, telling me what she needs. She is very vocal and loves to talk back. She is loud as a real mudi. She is also loves to be bossy and I need to work with her harder. She is a Covid quarantine pup, got stuck in Hungary and could not socialize her as much as I hoped due to the stay at home order. She is much better now. Once she meets a dog she just needs a little time and she is ready to play. She loves humans. And both my dogs love our guinea pigs. She has many generations behind her, still within the suggested inbreeding line. My male, Anubis, is not as vocal, but a great guard dog. He can play frisbee for hours or retreive a ball and drop it right into your hand. He loves agility, heights and wants to please you all the time. In his line many are therpahy dogs. We are working on some of those qualities. Being of Hungarian origin my dogs understand English and Hungarian. Those call words in Hungarian help in crowded, loud situations with too many commands heard in English. I have travelled with my male back to Hungary recently, and attended a dog show there to see how he does, and he did very well. We hit the big city, visited farms, walked among many people, rode in the car with, wherever I went...He is calm, he does not bark at dogs on walks. He is social. He is a bit on the tall side after his grandfather, but still within the limits of a tall mudi. He carries many colors and even ash. Hi is not a 3 gen dog, as some documents were not preserved well on his Dam's side, but he is still a great quality dog and can do many things with him and would not give up that quality over some ranking due to missing papers. His line was not bred a lot, so this is a very clean and healthy line. As my goal is to import mudis from Hungary rather than overbreed them here, to freshen the blood lines I will be connecting with a shipper in Hungary who has over 10 years of experience with shipping and over 30 years working and breeding dogs. We will connect new and experienced mudi owners, who are in need to find the right puppy, the right breeder and if needed help with the proper paperwork, Hungarian language translations, and to make sure they get the dog they wanted....Sadly there are many out there who take advantage and trick the buyers, we would like to help avoiding that.
