I started teaching Eden to trailer last week and she’s doing amazing!! It only took a couple minutes for her to walk right in for me. She backs out most of the time but not everytime so we are going to keep working on backing out. Hopefully I will be able to take her for her first trailer ride (other than pick up day of course) tomorrow!!

Eden is doing better than ever lately! She is lunging well while I stand above her on top of our mounting block. I recently taught her to walk through a lariat as well as putting her head down by the poll, and lunging at a trot over some poles! Tarps don’t bother her at all. She walks over them just fine and I can put one all over her back and rub it all over her as well as throw it around her without any fear or worry coming from her! We are still working on trotting in hand, sometimes she gets excited about it and throws her head a couple times but then calms down and just trots calmly besides me. Eden will truly be an AMAZING HORSE for anyone. As much as it will hurt to say goodbye I am excited for her journey with whoever her new owner will be. Please message me if you are interested in wanting to come look at her and potentially bidding on her!!

First showmanship lesson with my cousin kylee who will be competing in youth in hand with her mustang! This was a great lesson for both Eden and I because I was learning more about showmanship while for Eden it was her first time being lead out front with many more horses she hasn’t seen, being introduced to cars driving by, and much more commotion then where we have her behind the barn.

Here’s some things Eden and I have been working on and getting better at! She’s doing amazing at yielding her hip both with asking with the stick, and with my hand on her rib cage in the same spot someone’s foot would go when riding. She also does amazing with the stick string being thrown up over her back. Only took a couple days for her to get desensitized to it being tossed up on her. We also are working a lot on lunging and stopping on the lunge line and facing me which she is doing amazing at!! She will be for sale at the auction in september and she’s going to make someone and AMAZING horse! Eden amazes me more and more everyday with how smart she is and how quickly she learns.

BIG NEWS for Eden and I!! I have started to lead her to and from our arena which is huge for us because up until this week she has not been lead around in an open field much less inside a barn with so many things going on at once and so much to take in! She calmly walked right in to the barn without worry and after getting her more comfortable we worked on going over a bridge for the first time. Eden is a very sweet and affectionate horse and is very soft to the slightest ask for something. When something new comes around she calmly looks to her leader which right now is me for security and confidence. As soon as she sees me come up to her pen she is eager to be worked with! Whoever buys her at the auction will be the luckiest person there!

Changed out Eden’s halter today!! She did amazing letting me switch out her old halter and drag rope for this rope one! Now she wont be tripping over her drag rope when I go to work with her and i’ll be able to just clip on a different lead rope to this halter.

First grooming session with Eden today! She let me brush out her entire mane and forelock and i started using a soft bristle brush on her neck and chest! She has gotten super comfortable with her face, neck, and chest being touched so now i’m going to start transitioning to being able to touch and groom her stomach and butt. She also loves to try and nibble on the panel at the front of her stall where I keep her hay bag 😂.

One of the other mustangs in a stall next to mine helped her get her halter off today. I was a little worried this would set us back and that it would take a while to get it on because she is not yet halter broke. Luckily she has made amazing progress the past couple days with her face and neck being touched. When it came to trying to get it back on i took it step by step and eventually was successful on getting it on fully after about an hour of work! I’m pretty confident that her name is going to be “Eden”. The name idea came to me last night and all throughout tonight that was the name that kept coming to mind and that I kept finding myself calling her. I’m so happy with the amazing progress we have made in just almost one week of having her!

Day 5: I got the tag off today! This girl is no longer tag number 6911! I still haven’t decided on a name because I’m still getting used to her personality but I’m hoping to finalize one in the next couple of days! Feel free to comment ideas.

This is going to be my mustang for the next 100 days! She is BEAUTIFUL!! She was very calm when we unloaded her and she settled in very well. I can’t wait to be able to work with her for 100 days! Right now her name is #6911 and I need name ideas… the name that is winning with my friends and family right now is Ariel. My mustang from last year is named Sebastian with a nickname Bash so we had an idea to name her Ariel after the little mermaid to go with Sebastian’s name too! As of now she will be up for sale in September!

Bash let me put a saddle on him for the first time today! He wasn’t worried about it at all and I was able to put it right on him after only a minute or so. I still have yet to cinch it up but i’m going to start working on getting him used to that pressure on his stomach and pretty soon I will be able to fully put the saddle on cinched up and everything! Today Bash didn’t even care about the big scary thing going on his back and was instead more into the grass he was eating on the ground.

A huge thank you to Scott Depalo for doing a clinic tuesday night for me and my peers doing the teens and oregon mustangs challenge! I definitely learned a lot of important and helpful information that I will be using in my journey with my mustang. Although I haven’t been able to be with my mustang for the first couple days and for the clinic, I was very grateful to be able to facetime into the clinic and take notes and i’m so excited to start using the techniques I learned with Bash! One of the techniques he taught us on tuesday involved using long bamboo sticks as an extension of your arm to be able to reach out and touch my mustang from a safe distance.
