In the Embryo business there are a lot of statistics. The number of embryos recovered from a donor, the percentage of good embryos, the number of usable heats in a recip herd, and so on. But for us there is one statistic that means more to us than any of the others put together.
The number of calves that hit the ground, get up, and nurse.
Yes all of the other numbers are important too. But we know those numbers are just numbers until they turn into calves. That is where we are able to help add value to your herd and we are here to do just that.
We are loving the calving reports we are getting as fall calving gets rolling and cannot wait to hear more!

Did you know we offer donor housing? Our donor manager, Jared Hart, handles all of the shots and breeding to get these ladies ready for the upcoming flush date at the farm. This is a great option for anyone looking to add convenience to the conventional flush process! If you are interested in finding out more about the donor housing process or availability you can call Scott Burks at 270-670-3100 for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!

We had a fantastic time this weekend at the Tennessee Angus Field Day hosted by McWherter Farms. They put together a great day for everyone and we enjoyed getting to catch up with old friends, meeting some new folks, and really seeing firsthand what a bright future this industry has. We sure are proud to be part of it.

What an honor to get to share a little bit about what we do and how we fit in to cattle operations across the southeast, including our family farm, Holt Farms Angus.
UT TSU Extension Overton does a great job for our county and we are proud to be here. Thanks again for this opportunity UT Extension-Smith County. You are doing great work for Tennessee farmers all across the state!

The way producers utilize Embryo Transfer can vary greatly from farm to farm, but the end goal is always the same: better cattle. We were so honored to be included in this article from the Angus Journal about Embryo Transfer and how it plays such a key role on farms across the country.
In today's data-driven, fast-moving world, the cattle producer needs to be able to rapidly replicate quality genetics to improve their herd.
In this article, dive deeper into the history of embryo transfer (ET) technology and learn about strategies for selecting a donor female from Levi Holt, Green River Embryo Transfer; Darin Meyer, De-Su Angus; and Charlie Boyd II, Boyd Beef Cattle: https://bit.ly/3COT6FM

These Mini Jerseys were a treat to have out to the farm. No step stool needed for these girls!

We had a great time seeing so many Green River hats walking around at the TN Beef Agribition today! And a big congrats to everyone for their success in the show ring and the sale ring. It has been a while since we have seen some of those calves and it feels pretty good to see them walking around instead of floating under a microscope!

A few recips enjoying their breakfast on a snowy morning. Judging by some of the calves they are raising, they have earned it!

Did you know that we offer donor housing? And as long as there aren’t more than 5 at a time we can ensure that they are accurately counted every day by highly qualified professionals.

Just kidding! We have a great team that can count much higher than 5 looking after all of the cows that are put in our care for shots, breeding, and flushing. But this great group of Charlois have stolen this little boys heart. They are his new “favowite”.

About GRET
Growing up on a dairy, cattle reproduction was always a part of Dr. Levi Holt’s daily life. When their family farm transitioned out of the dairy business into the registered Angus world, he got his first experiences with Embryo Transfer through work that Dr. Herb Brown did on the farm.
During his time at the University of Tennessee for both his undergraduate degree and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, cattle and cattle reproduction were always at the forefront of his education. He participated on numerous teams and clubs including the Livestock Judging team, Food Animal Club, Palpation Team, and was even able to complete an externship with Dr. Brown at Green River Embryo Transfer.
After completing his time in Knoxville, Levi returned to his hometown of Livingston, TN to work at the mixed animal practice in town. After a few years, the opportunity arose to take over GRET as Dr. Brown was ready to retire. So after stepping back from mixed animal practice and working with Dr. Brown for a year, Levi became the official owner and operator of Green River Embryo Transfer.
Today, he runs the practice along with his wife Caroline and Scott Burks. The practice is mobile, but there are facilities available for any clients who wish to haul in their cattle. They specialize in conventional flushing Embryo Transfer, as well as other reproductive technologies and have extensive experience in dealing with IVF incubators and transfers and would love to be of any assistance they can with any of your reproductive needs.
Dr. Holt is certified through the American Embryo Transfer Association.
