I took these two pictures because, they are cute duh. 😝 but really I’ve heard from so many that Colossus looks like we bred him & several have been surprised when I explained he’s not even the same breed of dog as all the rest. He is an AB & all the others are original OEBs/Leavitt bulldogs. The goal is not to start breeding ABs we are still laser focused on the original OEB/Leavitt Bulldog. Unfortunately for the breed we love so much there just plain isn’t enough genetic 🧬 material to maintain the breed in a healthy way going forward. I won’t belabor the why in a public discussion as there are all sorts of opinions, everyone is entitled to their own, but the fact remains it is where it is. We are working on a plan to infuse new genetic 🧬 material in the coming years to help widen the gene 🧬 pool. Happy to answer any questions one might have.

🌟🐶 **Training Tips for Your American Bulldog** 🐶🌟

Hey there, Rosebull Kennel family! Today, we're diving into some essential training tips to help your American Bulldog become the best companion they can be. 🐾

**1. Start Early and Be Consistent**: The best time to start training is as a puppy, but it's never too late to teach an old dog new tricks! Consistency is key - practice daily and keep commands consistent.

**2. Positive Reinforcement Works Wonders**: Bulldogs respond best to positive reinforcement. Praise and treats can go a long way in encouraging good behavior. 🍖

**3. Master the Basics First**: Focus on basic commands like 'sit', 'stay', 'come', and 'heel'. These form the foundation of good behavior.

**4. Socialization is Crucial**: Expose your bulldog to different people, pets, and environments. It helps them become well-adjusted and less anxious in new situations.

**5. Patience is Your Best Friend**: Training takes time and patience. Celebrate small victories and don’t get discouraged by setbacks.

Got any specific training challenges or success stories? Share them in the comments! We love hearing about your journey with your furry friends. 🌟

Stay tuned for more tips, and remember, a well-trained bulldog is a happy bulldog!

These are not my words, but the words of a moderator on another group. Word from the FDA says there is no official recall yet with Purina, they are still investigating. But it sounds like something is brewing that involves both dog & cat foods from Purina. Sorry for the length but it’s well worth the read. I’d suggest anyone considering a breeder should be asking what that breeder feeds. Doesn’t mean you have to feed that same food, doing your own research in extremely important!

—————
“With so much focus on food and pet parents wondering if they should change their pet's food, let's discuss a few things.

First things first, I am a raw feeder. It is what I know, I practice, and it is my current job as I work for a raw food company. It will always be my recommendation as I know it works, and it is the diet our pets are designed to consume. Because of this, I do not have any kibble that I recommend. That does not mean I judge anyone who feeds any particular brand of kibble. If what you are feeding works for you and your pet, then what you're feeding is working. You don't need me to validate you. I know that sounds harsh, but I prefer to be honest with folks rather than telling them what they want to hear.

This group has lists of foods that we recommend. You can find the list by searching the group for "recommended foods." Use the magnifying glass icon in the upper right-hand corner.

One of the reasons the group doesn't have a recommended kibble is the process by which kibble is made (Carna4 is on the list only because it is baked, not cooked at high heat.) It is the same for all kibble, whether "ultra-premium" or bottom of the bargain bin at a big box store. All kibble uses substandard ingredients cooked at high temperatures and then extruded (pressed) into tiny cardboard nuggets devoid of flavor or nutrition. Synthetic vitamins and minerals are added, as are flavor enhancers because no animal would eat kibble without these. They would not recognize it as food.

If you cannot feed the recommended foods, our number one tip is to freshen up the bowl of whatever you decide to feed. Pull out 10-20% of the kibble and replace it with fresh foods. Again, the group has lists of great foods pet parents can add. Just search the group for "fresh foods to add." Pulling out 10-20% confuses many people, so here is the rule of thumb I used when I would do this for dogs I was fostering. If they were eating 2 cups or more, I removed 1/2 cup of the food and replaced it with 4-6 ounces of fresh food. If a smaller dog ate less than 2 cups, I removed 1/4 cup and replaced it with about 3 ounces of fresh food. I never worried about adding too much fresh food because no dog was going to grow obese because I gave him a little too much broccoli, and I rotated through the fresh food I added so they didn't eat any one item exclusively. My numbers have no rhyme or reason; this is just what worked for the dogs I did this for. I watched them for any energy loss or if they seemed excessively hungry, and I closely monitored them for weight gain or loss. I could have made adjustments if needed.

If you are looking for a new brand of kibble, remember that all kibble is made the same way and from poor-quality ingredients. Be wary of deceptive labeling practices when manufacturers use words like "human grade" or "top quality ingredients," as they may not mean what you think they mean. In most cases, you pay extra for fancy words on a bag. I recommend you stay in the mid-tier price point range. I wouldn't buy the cheapest kibble you can find, but I also would not buy the more expensive, "ultra-premium" stuff. Use the money you save to freshen up that mid-price range bag instead. Try to find a food that does not have corn, soy, or wheat as its first or second ingredient or even as an ingredient at all. The brand is less important, except I would shy away from Purina and Hills based on their history of poor quality control. Again, be careful because many prominent manufacturers have bought the smaller brands, so you may think you are not buying Hills, but they own the brand you are buying.

If your pets are doing fine, even if you are feeding Purina, I wouldn't panic. Do not think your dog into being sick if he is not, you'll drive yourself crazy. Perhaps you want to keep their food the same, that is OK. Please show some empathy to those whose pets are not doing fine. We are not looking for Purina and Hill's fan club members to come in here and sing their praises. Pets are sick and dying, and the fact that you've fed Purina or Hills "for years" and your dog "thrived" on it does not help them or change their situation. We all know someone who smoked two packs of ci******es a day and died of natural causes at a very old age. We don't go up to someone who never smoked but got lung cancer and say how great of a company Marlboro is. Don't do that here with Purina or Hills.

Save the bags of whatever you are feeding so you can know what you were feeding in case of a recall or an issue with your dog. Start a journal and track everything that is going into your dog. This is also helpful for eliminating extra stuff that may be causing issues, such as crappy treats, vaccines, or flea and tick preventatives. If you write them all down, you start to get a sense of everything your dog is exposed to daily.

If you have not done so, go to https://truthaboutpetfood.com/subscribe-to-the-newsletter/ and sign up for Susan Thixton's newsletter. You will get emailed recall notices when they happen so you can be an informed pet parent no matter what you are feeding. Susan does yeoman's work in the world of pet food, and she is one of the biggest advocates for pets everywhere. If you can contribute a few dollars to her work, it helps pets everywhere. For just a $10 donation, you can get a copy of her list of top pet foods. She has exhaustively researched all these foods and you can't go wrong feeding anything on her list.

Hopefully, this helps if you want to change and can't do raw or any of the brands we recommend. We (the moderators) do not know you, your dog, or your situation, so recommending specific changes is challenging. This group is a wealth of information, but you must use the search function and do a lot of legwork independently. We can guide you, but you must make decisions that work for you and your pet.”

Knowing the truth can save your pet's life
