The holidays do not always look like matching pajamas and days off when you are a breeder.
They look like whelping boxes instead of wrapped gifts. Late nights and early mornings. Missed dinners and alarms going off when everyone else is asleep. Vet runs, bottle feeding, cleaning, monitoring worrying and doing it all over again the next day.
Breeding is not just the joyful moments people see. It is the hard calls. The losses that stay with you throughout the year. The responsibility of lives that depend on you no matter what day it is on the calendar.
But there is joy here too.
Joy in watching a puppy take its first steps. Joy in seeing a dam settle in and do her job. Joy in knowing you are preserving something bigger than yourself. Temperament, structure, purpose, & heart. Joy in the people who trust you with a future family member.
Holidays come and go. This life does not pause. And while it is not always easy it is meaningful.
To the breeders spending the holidays in kennels & whelping rooms or on standby you are not missing out. You are exactly where you are meant to be.
