Just 15 minutes of mental exercise or enrichment can be equivalent to 30 minutes of physical exercise!
Mental Enrichment is also helpful in...
🐕 Helping your dog be more independent,
🐩 Releasing endorphins to naturally calm,
🦮 Slowing down meal time,
🐕🦺 Confidence building,
🐶 and so much more!
Sometimes training is just about having fun and building a stronger relationship with your dog and keeping them mentally engaged! 🎳
Do you have a reactive dog? I can help!!
Remi can be reactive to dogs on walks. Here he is rolling around just feet from another dog. I'd say he is feeling pretty comfortable and relaxed! We slowly got closer with lots of praise and treats and he did amazing!!
A dog that tries to dash through the door when you open it can be very scary and dangerous! Teaching a controlled response as people go towards the door is so important. Here is a video of Evie learning to wait at the stop of the stairs while her guardian goes to the door. After just one training session, she was able to stay in place as the door was opened. Evie's mom followed up a few days later and was excited to to share Evie was successful staying at the top of the stairs as a visitor entered the home. Way to go!!

Round of 👏 for Arlo and his guardians! He struggled with seeing dogs on walks, even if they were a distance away. During our session he was able to watch nearby dogs and still check in with his people and take treats!! This is great progress in just 2 weeks!

Meet Bane! His guardians reached out because he would become very anxious when it was time to go outside. He would bark and dash out the doors which could possibly end in injuries to him or his people. After one session we were able to reduce his anxiety going through doorways and he would even wait for a release cue before exiting!
Today I had my first Puppy 101 session with 6 month old Ivy! We went over a lot of great information on training basics.
She wasn't really sure about my treats at first! 🤣

After a session of learning, Madi and Lykoln had a fun game of 'find it' with treats hidden in the leaf piles! Lykoln decided to boop the camera at the end. 🤣 I just had my second session with these two. Today we worked on their jumpy/mouthy behaviors in the home and a more reliable recall in the back yard.
Find It and other Sniff games can be very benefical for your pup. Allowing a dog to sniff has been scientifically proven to lower their heartrate and releases feel-good dopamine, which helps to decrease stress and improve their overall mood!
Yesterday, I had a really fun session with Mia, a 12 week old Cavapoo pup. The guardian's goal is to have her ring a 🔔 to indicate when she needs to go outside. They sent me this video today. Amazing progress in just 24 hours!! Round of applause to them 👏
Teaching your dog to go to "place" is a great tool that can be used in so many different situations. It is a behavior that takes time and patience but will be worth it in the end. And training is a great way to tire out your pup!
GIVEAWAY WINNER! Congratulations Barb Kinard! Thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaway last weekend. I appreciate all the love and support!
Doc is a four year old Doberman that I have worked with quite a bit. He has sensitivity to having his feet touched and his nails trimmed. So, we taught him to file them himself!!

Let me see pics of your pups doing enrichment activities!!
Do you work your dog's brain? Providing your dog with mental enrichment is just as important as physical exercise. It can also be just as tiring as a walk or a game of fetch. Too much physical exercise can create an adrenaline junkied super athlete!
For my pups, I incorporate enrichment into meal time. There are so many great products out there, but also lots of DIY options. Just remember, not all enrichment includes food. Scent games, bubbles, and music are just a few examples of other forms of enrichment to help stimulate your dog's senses.
