Update on Mr. Beeker…
He has faced so many Challenges since the day of his accident. Over the last two and a half months he has shown amazing resilience.
His amputation site has healed very nicely. During the recovery from the leg amputation he had gotten a pressure sore on his keel bone. We tried really hard to manage and heal the sore but the vet needed to intervene. A few weeks ago he had to have a procedure to pull muscle and skin over his keel bone. That has kept him in a collar with padding and an apron to help him heal for the last few weeks.
This past Wednesday he decided he was Done with the collar and ripped it off. He got the apron and padding off as well. Who could blame him after all this time. We looked him over and decided he was right it was time to be done with it. We followed his lead and watched him carefully as he adjusted to his life without his collar. He has left his keel and amputation sites alone. His keel bone looks great and we are monitoring it and watching him for any picking.
He currently has some padding on his wings(elbows) as he is using them to balance himself while getting around. This is to try to prevent him getting a sores on his wings where he is using them in an unusual way for a bird.
His next appointment with the vet is Monday December 23. After having weekly visits to the vet since the accident Maybe for Christmas we will get the all clear from the vet!
Mr. Beeker has been so tolerant throughout all of the treatment and medication and adjustments he has had to make over the past two and a half months!
Twin Cities Parrot Rescue will be keeping Mr. Beeker as a resident bird of the rescue.
We will be continuing to care for Mr.Beeker and make sure he does well for the rest of his life.
Mr. Beeker is an Amazing bird! We LOVE Him SO SO MUCH!!!
