Happy National Love Your Pet Day!
I started Amazing Grace Pet Food out of love for my family's kitty, Grace. She was a starving stray a kind soul saved from the snow at Ft. Belvoir, and loved us the instant we met in 2004. Her unbridled joy for life with her newfound family manifested in an insatiable passion for playing, constant companionship, and deep loyalty. She would play peek-a-boo around corners (and run off in a victory lap when she won!), drag fishing pole toys to the nearest available hand, and couldn't resist a wiggling ribbon. If two of us sat on either end of the couch, she'd stretch out so weโd each wind up with a paw as she fell asleep โ that is after she was done laying on her back and pawing the air out of sheer happiness! If someone fell ill, she'd stay nearby until they felt better, perched nearby to keep a concerned eye on them. She was truly an incredible part of our family.๐ธ๐
Gracie relished her food with as much joy as everything else in her life, and while we kept her at a healthy weight, she developed an allergy to poultry, and later, irritable bowel disease. Later, she developed kidney disease. We managed her health issues with diet changes, which appeared to workโuntil the cancer diagnosis. In January 2018, Gracie was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma under her tongue. It is an extremely aggressive and, unfortunately, common cancer in cats. Devastated, we started her treatment right away. A survivor from her very start, Gracie was incredibly strong and with western medicine, holistic treatment, and prayer she defied the 3- to 5-month prognosis to enjoy 15 months with us. She passed on March 31, 2019. ๐
Gracie's diagnosis sent me searching for the cause. While she was technically a senior at 14 years old when diagnosed, I couldnโt accept that this alarmingly common terminal illness is simply inevitable. When I researched both the brands Gracie ate and the nutrition that cats require, I found a huge disconnect. The more I learned, the more clear it became that Gracie's health challenges throughout her life were results of her diet, which appeared to be healthy, but was in reality poorly balanced and of low quality. With this discovery I started Amazing Grace Pet Food to help pet parents provide their furry loved ones long and healthy lives with fresh, all natural food. ๐พโค๏ธ๐พ
