Stray Cat TNR One of our goals is to help shelters reduce their intake and euthanasia rate by returning cats to their original outdoor environment to live out their lives.

Our mission is to motivate and empower compassionate caretakers through education and resources as well as equip them with necessary supplies and support to carry out the process of Trap Neuter Return. Located in Forest, Virginia, our Trap-Neuter-Return program acquires help and support of property owners so we may work together in the most efficient way to ensure your outdoor cats live happier, h

ealthier lives through spay and neuter. Our main objective is to promote TNR awareness and educate the community about this process and its benefits. We want you to feel comfortable with the process and we can teach you what you need to know. We believe anyone can TNR and we are here to help you! If you are graciously feeding a couple of strays and would like to have them spayed/neutered, but are overwhelmed with the process, let us help guide and assist you! Call, text or email so we may discuss your specific circumstances to figure out the best possible way to help you and your feline friends.

Lynchburg, Virginia

We have another kitty who would love an indoor home!! We keep running into all these friendly kitties outdoors and seemingly unowned. Please spay or neuter your pets to prevent this from happening.

This mama cat showed up at Sue's in mid-November and brought her whole family with her. Sue could not let them go hungry, so she began feeding and reached out to us for help. All six have been spay/neutered now, but 6️⃣ is still a lot for Sue to handle in her current situation and she would love to see mama cat in an indoor home 🏠 because she is so sweet.

Can you help? Mama's estimated age is 1 year old. She has been spayed and she will also be tested for FIV/FeLV and microchipped prior to adoption thanks to Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. 🎉

We don't want this precious girl back out in the cold. 🥶 We want to help her find a home if we can. ❤

Lynchburg, Virginia - Looking for a home. 🏠

Boy George was found outdoors by a Good Samaritan who reached out to us for help. No one seems to know what happened to him, but he surely needed some medical treatment! Kirsten promptly picked him up and got him to our friends at LHS.

They decided the tail needed to be amputated immediately and he had been recovering with them since then. Monday he was neutered and released into our care to be returned to his outdoor home.

But WAIT! Boy George is a friendly fellow. We get comments ALL THE TIME about finding homes for these friendly kitties - like it's so simple to do, sigh. We are an organization solely focused on TNR and do not currently have resources to hold for long periods or rehome. We try our best, but we can't provide them homes if no one is willing to give them one. We often have to return these friendly ones back outdoors. But, we are asking about Boy George ahead of time to see if anyone might want to give this guy a try so he can be an indoor kitty!

He's estimated to be 4 years old and he's obviously been through a lot being outdoors, but he's now healed up and neutered and ready to soak up the warmth of your home!!

A few weeks ago Stevie gave us a little scare. It may have been some type of seizure, but if so, not a traditional one. His steps were slow and rigid and a bit “crooked”. Even though he was not acting okay, he reached out his neck for his food. I set him next to his food and when he began to eat, I rushed upstairs to get dressed so I could take him in to the vet. When I returned back to his room shortly, he was acting completely normal.

Of course, I still took him to the vet. While they didn’t find anything definitively wrong with him, they did warn me that this could be the beginning of the end for our handsome guy, which I already knew in my gut. He’s been steadily losing weight, but he’s still eating, pooping and seemingly enjoying his time. 🩶

Battling kidney disease, Stevie has always been a hospice foster, so we think he’s done remarkably well! We are still committed to providing him a comfortable and loving space to live out his life with humans who consider him family.

Our kitty tube sure does attract all the kitties in the neighborhood - kitties I didn’t even know existed! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know this isn’t one of our kitties because clearly there is no ear tip. Someone might get a free ride 🚘 to the Spay Neuter Clinic soon. 😽

It’s highly possible she finally caught him and hopefully he will spray no more! You rock, Kirsten. 👊🏻 Thanks for not giving up on him.

With nothing more than a few messages back and forth about how to carry out the process of TNR, Amber got right to work to schedule an appointment for an injured, friendly boy who had shown up. We were happy to sponsor the cost of his care.

Now that he was finished, Amber decided to try to trap one of the others and she got her! 👏🏼 Unbeknownst to her, her husband had another trap set and he caught one too!!

They also have a camera set up to show another of their frequent visitors has already been eartipped! 🙌🏼

She said those are all the consistent visitors, but she's not giving up on getting lucky with some of the more inconsistent ones. Amber is so excited that these kitties are getting taken care of and we are so grateful that Amber stepped up for them! ❤️❤️

WINTER TIPS FOR TRAPPING

I've always been a firm believer in "if you are the person doing the work, decisions rest with you." I'm not okay with others telling volunteers what to do with their own time. BUT, if you would like some winter weather GUIDELINES, we've gotten these straight from Alley Cat Allies.
-------------------------------------------------
In colder regions, female cats go into heat and could already be pregnant by the time the snow melts. That’s why most kittens are born in the springtime, or whenever the weather in an area begins to warm up. Doing TNR in the cold months is the best way to Beat the Heat® and get out ahead of this “kitten season.”

So, don’t be afraid to break out the humane traps in the cold season! Remember, cats live and thrive in all sorts of climates, including during the harsh winters in areas like Canada and even Siberia. Wherever community cats are, you can do TNR all year round.

1. Use your best judgment.
This may seem obvious, but if the weather is too severe for you to be out in it, don’t do TNR. The cats may already be hiding in the places they know are safe and warm.

2. Don’t trap if dangerous weather is forecasted.
The less time community cats spend confined indoors, the better—for them and for you. If dangerous conditions are on the way, wait for a longer stretch of milder weather before starting TNR at all.

3. Try to trap during warmer times of day.
Instead of after the sun goes down.

4. Use oil-based bait.
To inhibit freezing.

5. Don’t leave traps unattended.
It’s harder for a community cat to stay warm while confined in a trap.

6. Double check your holding/recovery area.
Setting up a dry, temperature-controlled (about 75˚F is best) recovery or holding area for cats is a standard part of TNR. It’s especially important when it’s cold out!

7. Yes, it’s okay to return cats in the cold.
If the weather is around the typical temperature for your area in the coldest season, as cold as that may be, community cats are used to it and will be fine. You don’t need to, and shouldn’t, wait for a warmer day to return them outdoors.

8. Hold male cats for no more than 24 hours and female cats no more than 48 hours, but not before anesthesia has worn off. Return community cats to their outdoor home as soon as possible after their surgery, including in colder weather. No matter how nice your holding area, community cats are extremely stressed by confinement. They need to go back to the home they know and their feline family outdoors.

Kirsten stayed busy this week trapping and transporting Sue’s colony. And Sue was able to trap 2️⃣ herself!!

Amber got in on the action by taking Lucas in get neutered and treated. 👏🏼👏🏼

We were also able to share an appointment with Kirsten so that she could get her rescue from a local shopping center neutered ✂️ as well.

Happy kitties all around! 😻

If you are feeding a male cat, please do not wait to have him neutered. Every second he is out there is a HUGE risk. Unneutered male cats fight. I don't care how sweet you think he is. All of them fight - it's their nature. And it's the way the most severe feline diseases are spread. You can prevent this before it happens! And, you can prevent a lot of new kittens being born outside to suffer in the harsh environment.

Don't wait for him to show up injured!
Don't wait for the weather to get warmer.
Don't wait because "he can't have kittens".
Don't wait because "you'll do it later".
Don't wait to earn his trust more.
Don't wait for him to contract deadly diseases.

Don't wait.

Amber reached out for guidance when a friendly stray guy showed up on her porch looking rough. When she sent us a picture, we immediately fell in love with the handsome guy! 😻Obviously, her family did too as they were willing to do whatever they needed to help him out as much as they could. Her kids have named him Lucas and maybe he will get to move indoors if everything checks out at the vet! 😄

We told her to get him set up at the Clinic and we would cover the cost. 💰 Today is his day! The wound that was on the side of his face originally is looking much better, but the Clinic will take a closer look at it along with his ear. And, of course, he will be neutered for a healthier, safer life! ✅

We are so glad Amber stepped up for this guy to make sure life will be easier on him in the future. People who care ROCK! 👊🏼

Kirsten has been one busy lady lately! 🚘 In between securing all those adorable kittens from a local college AND the mama cat 🎉, she has also been back and forth to Sue's house to help with her colony.

Sue has been kind enough to take care of the six kitties who found their way to her house. Mama cat has birthed several litters already. She's the only friendly one of the bunch, obviously a pet at some point. And then, of course, there's a random male 🐈‍⬛ who shows up inconsistently to spread his seed.

Kirsten caught 4️⃣ kitties on her first outing to Sue's place. She left Sue with traps for the others. Sue took over and caught the last two!! Even her inconsistently fellow showed up. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 One and done - the whole colony will be fixed and returned for Sue and she can breathe a sigh of relief. No more babies!!

TNR is the ONLY humane way to help cats like this and their caretakers. 💖 It helps everyone!

Kirsten also rescued some kittens months ago at a local shopping center. She could not resist sweet Wally and decided to keep him for her very own! He also gets his neuter today. 🖤

And then there was one… and he got caught!!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

This little one spent nights alone in the cold ❄️ without mom and siblings simply because he refused to come out of his hiding spot.

No more - only warm beds 🔥 and snuggles for this little rascal from now on!

Dominque alerted us to a mom 🐈 and 3️⃣ kittens at a local college she was worried about.

In between her many adventures, Kirsten stopped by to take a look. 👀 She immediately trapped the mom, but the kittens scattered. 😾Even though the weather has been challenging, Kirsten has been back every morning and evening 🚕 since trying to gather up the kittens.

She got lucky and caught one by hand! Back at it again later, she was able to trap the second. ✅ But the third has proved to be a real stinker 🥴 - there’s always one!

Dominique and Kirsten have joined forces 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 and have been trying to secure the last kitten, but certainly haven’t had an easy time of it based on where the kitten is hiding and the fact that all weekend was move-in weekend for students. People and traffic literally everywhere, all day, everyday. 👎🏻

We know these ladies will come through for the last little one. 😻 Today, we took the other two kittens over to our friends at LHS to get settled in while they wait to be reunited with their sibling. Mama cat remains with us while she waits for a spay appointment.

Send some positive vibes over to Dominique and Kirsten!
