Hello everyone!

I hope the upcoming holidays will find everyone in a good place. The rats we have posted now will be our last of the year. We have some fantastic rats ready to go.

As I mentioned earlier this year, we are wanting to get out of breeding full time to focus on our cat business European Maine C**n Cats, which you can follow at Les Cats USA.

That being said, we are not selling our breeding program and will retain our 10 year genetic lines of hard work and love ...which means we will occasionally have single litters. We will be offering an occasional few speciality, dumbo rats to the public so do follow us for updates on sporadic litters.

We are going to be very particular about our customers as we will be very exclusive. We will no longer tolerate abusive clients. Our rats deserve the utmost love and care and we expect no less for ourselves.

We will continue to offer services such as wellness checks, nail trims and URI treatment by appointment only. We will offer boarding. There is a profound lack of rat services in our region for affordable and quality care. We will maintain our vet relationship for our personal mischief and are happy to extend limited services.

We have one of our premier males that we will be breeding for a January litter. This will be his last litter so check in for a wait list. He is a platinum Pando.

****Why we will no longer be involved in our community****

I would like to say that this economic crisis has been rough for each and everyone of us. My heart breaks for all of us who have lost loved ones and their livelihoods. I have loved sharing so many wonderful memories and happy times with our countless families. That being said, one thing that will always be free is kindness and appreciation. We cannot let these hard times compromise our integrity, love and appreciation for one another.

Unfortunately, there's too much anger and lack of respect for many of us who dedicate our love, time, finances to their passions regardless of the associated costs both emotionally and monetarily. I just don't have it in me anymore. I've spent the last ten years loving our rats and rattery and creating a space in our corner of the world that focuses on positivity and that priceless emotional support that only pets and family offer. As many of you know, there are many costs associated with any pet, big or small. Our rats are not lesser pets although they are small. They're just little love heaters :).

I have always been a strong believer in supporting small businesses and microbusinesses. I practice what I preach and will continue doing my part to give back to our community. Our rattery has always been more mindful of others' time and value then our own. It has become abundantly clear that this is not a reciprocated practice. We pride ourselces on paying it forward in whatever way we can even if it's just paying a local seamstress a livable wage of 20$/hr for her time. We give to charities that support cat shelters in the Valley. We pay to have a booth at Idaho Pet Expo yearly so that we can share our beautiful ratties with a young audience to promote rat appreciation while decreasing the stigma of rat ownership.

Needless to say, Les Rats has seen our prices continuing to rise beyond sustainablity. Food ingredients have quadrupled in the last 2 years alone not to mention everything from cleaning supplies to vet care. Our costs to raise our rats has been skyrocketing since 2020. Although we do understand that everyone has seen such increases, when it comes to our rats, I have noticed that for some reason, people still expect our rats to be at below sustainable prices. Rats are great pets. We have maintained our quality regardless of our struggles but will not tolerate being mistaken for a charity. We have never asked for donations nor will we.

We have worked with a vet for our program for 10 years. We use the best litter and food. We buy from sourced, local or regional ingredients as much as possible. We are as green as possible even down to the paper bags we use to package our food. We have never raised the price of our food in 10 years as we buy in bulk. We have wanted healthy food available to our families although we have not been able to cover the costs of our own food for 2 years.

Les Rats negotiated low cost euthanasias with our vet for our rat families so that they have affordable end-of-life services. We never let our own rats' bodies go to waste either. Our rats are donated to local sanctuaries and rescues after they pass so that they can help other animals in need.

As a person with disabilities, I also struggle with my daily. I have never let my struggles weigh on our families. I feel that because people don't value rats as the great pets they are, they think they can be aggressive and hateful towards me. Everyone values their money, but not when it comes to others' services or costs.

I have nothing more to offer emotionally or financially.

Dear everyone,

Try and consider what others might be struggling with when you chose hatefulness over kindness. Try to be grateful and thankful for what you do have. From many personal tragedies in my life, I know that nothing is guaranteed. We are not competitors... we are Americans in a tough space.

I wish everyone the best and may your days be full of beautiful moments if nothing else. You might have to practice seeing the beauty in the world...trust me, it's worth the energy. My deepest sorrow is that so many of us chose to manifest their unhappiness in their cruel words and actions. The devaluation of others will never add value to your own life.

We are offering all our rats to good homes. They will not be free although discounted. We hope to find great homes for our beautiful babies by Halloween!

We have represented Treasure Valley ratty lovers at this event before. It's one of very few pet expos in our area that caters to the exotics fans. If you get a chance, there are lots of beautiful snakes, geckos, axolotls and oh ya, more snakes!! You won't believe how many colors and patterns are available in the reptiles and amphibians world. (Also a kid-friendly atmosphere is always appreciated.)

Do go if you get a chance.

Rest in Peace to our beloved Sylvester.

One of our beautiful boys that brought so many happy rats to our rat families. He was a chirpy love heater til the end. 3 years, 7 months. We were blessed and proud to have those years with him.
