Yesterday was Trix's first trail ride. I imagine in all her years of upbringing and training for the track she's never had this kind of experience. When we got out of the woods and up on this bluff she stopped dead in her tracks and gazed intently across the landscape, totally captivated. What a cool experience to be a part of ❤️🌄🐎

The seat bone seems to me like one of the most important aids the rider has. How do I weight it correctly when riding a volte, circle or shoulder-in?

Mzazi went to her dream home today and we had a frosty, foggy, dream-like send-off ride. Trix in tow, me on ol' faithful Lux, and best boy baby Breggs taking care of a new rider for the first time❤️

She was not easy to send off. I've never had so many nervous butterflies taking a horse to a new owner and if you are close to me I send my greatest appreciation for the pep talks. As soon as we pulled up we were greeted by the warmest people, a home any horse would DREAM of living in, and a cute fuzzy old guy to keep her company (and a cute new blanket!).

Everything I had been feeling shed away and I left beaming and so proud that Zaz gets to have an incredible home and future. And I have made a wonderful new friend ❤️

Big shout out to Luke Lenski for putting a wonderful working foundation under this horse and placing her for me at a working ranch. I sure hope they get along well and Nala (now Pippi, I hear😉) can show them what top notch horses come from Flying X Ranch Horses ❤️

Go forth and conquer, Nala, er, I mean Pippi!

Oh what lucky soul gets to be paired with this amazing animal? I will miss this horse when she is gone, but it will set my heart at ease knowing there's some horse crazy, adventurous, caring young rider out there that will fall in love with her and call her "best friend" for many long years to come.

Keep a look out for Mzazi's ad, and tell your friends! She can't wait to climb mountains, go to Pony Club camps, and bury her head in someone's loving arms ❤️❤️❤️

For your consideration:

PP Dashin Player, aka “Nala” from Flying X Ranch Horses is a four-year-old AQHA mare standing at 15.1 hands.

Nala is a finished ranch horse being used on a 1200 head cow/calf operation. She has been exposed to everything that you would expect a ranch to do - gathering, sorting, roping, and being used to help start other horses - and is ready to hit the ground running. She is insanely smart, learns quickly, and has a calm, quiet personality.

Nala has incredible stamina and can cover many miles without tiring. She has been packed on and has been exposed to packing out elk kill with zero issues. She will make a phenomenal hunting partner with very little effort.

Point to the trailer and she will hop in. Great natural balance and cadence, and an INCREDIBLY smooth ride. Not herd, barn or buddy sour. Stands tied, high lines, good for farrier, and loves water. No kick, bite, buck, bolt, rear, or setting back. Easy to catch. Dominant in the herd but not mean. She had extensive groundwork at an early age and is well acquainted with ropes, sacks, etc. Hobble trained. Fine with dogs (we’ve had as many as 7 on the trail with us), goats, etc. She looks this good year 'round 😉

Nala is sound, built well, and comes from a long line of solid, proven ranch and performance horses. She is slightly pigeon toed in front, but has been vetted and deemed sound with no specific restrictions. Records available upon request. Siblings, sire and dam are all straight, sound, and high functioning. I can tell you about every scratch and scrape she has ever collected. Pre-purchase exams always welcome.

I would like to see Nala go to a working ranch home. She is bred to work and having a job is where she is most happy. She will excel in a setting where she can use her brain, though she can sit for months and pick up right where you left off. Will not be considering barrel racing or highly competitive homes due to her front leg conformation. She is sound for it, but I would like to preserve her body so she can have many long years of adventure.

Currently working in Wolf Creek, MT but normally resides in St. Ignatius, MT. Will haul. Please contact me if you are interested, or would like to inquire with her trainer.

Whoever ends up with this mare is going to be happy for years to come. I am sad to see her leave, but my focus is in eventing horses, and she is destined for other paths.

If I could sum up the evening...

I mean… there is bolting out of the house regardless of state of dress when you see a loose horse(yours or someone else’s on your farm)….

I made this back in 2020 and it is still so accurate 3 years later 😭

My heart sinks a little as I drive down the road. But only a little. Sometimes we keep a horse as a prize or a keepsake. Anyone who buys and sells, trains or coaches would be lying a little if they said they never been guilty of it. And I feel confident knowing I have never placed a horse in a bad home. I've had a horse outgrow their new home only twice in my life, and both times they graciously came back to me safe and sound to find their next adventure.

Nala is an incredible horse. She is athletic, talented, and probably too smart for her own good. I have had an amazing time sharing her foundational growth with her, and I have learned a lot about myself in the process. Now she is off to learn what I cannot teach her. She'll chase cows, pack elk, and explore amazing new terrain. And then she will find a new home, and it will be amazing. My heart knows that, and so it only sinks a little as I tell her, happy trails Nala, and thank you.

Please let me know if anyone needs a place to keep displaced livestock from the surrounding fires. We have paddocks, pastures, and drylot available. Be safe!

It hard to believe this is the same Trix I brought home in December. Not only has her body score and muscle tone changed, but her stance is night and day. She is getting stronger, more balanced, and the amount of trust this horse puts in me through each triggering moment is incredibly honoring. Each time she realizes I am not going to beat her or force her into something it is like a new door has been unlocked and her heart pours out. I'm so happy she came into my life ❤️

First off-track (re)ride on Trix yesterday and first time on cows with Nala! Great success!!!

Behind the name...

Light My Heart (aka. “Lux”) had a full career as a racehorse in Oregon and Washington state. On his sixth birthday (April 4th) I traveled out to Emerald Downs racetrack to meet him after responding to a tiny square inch photo of him on dreamhorse.com. It was love at first sight. After a long haul home to Montana, ten months of rehabilitation from a degenerative hoof condition, endless trail rides, and a passion for soaring over jumps on the cross country course, Lux and I have been through the toughest of times and seen incredible things on our adventures together. Now he is sharing his passion with my students as a lesson horse. His gentle spirit and big heart make him the perfect partner, and his lofty movements will take your breath away!
