Winston the beagle working around triggers the other day! It’s always fun to work with this boy as he’s very eager to please but you can visibly see a mental conflict between choosing to bark and choosing to listen. This was a very impressive little moment for him as these dogs and this owner were making quite a scene in Home Depot. He made great efforts to engage and disengage back to me throughout and didn’t have a single reaction. When Winston first came in to me for training he could see a dog across the park and would begin baying instantly, corrections or redirection was difficult and took a lot of effort. Even once he had stopped baying he would still be on edge the rest of the training session. This goes to show the benefits of consistent and balanced training that has allowed Winston to move out of reacting and into a calmer mindset. Throughout this video youll notice I’m not even heavily relying on obedience, this is an end goal look at what we want to see. But for much of Winston’s training obedience with strict boundaries and commands was essential in teaching him right and wrong, now you can see he solicites those behaviors without needing commands and waits expectantly for rewards.
