Day 2 focuses on slowing down.
It can be easy to rush through grooming in order to get saddled and move on to work, a lesson, or the next demand of the day. However, taking time to slow down during grooming can have a profound impact on your horse’s nervous system and overall connection with you.
As I worked slowly and intentionally—brushing and gently scratching my horse’s shoulder— he began to release through a deep lick and chew. By the end of the video, he visibly settled, fully present and relaxed in the moment. Grooming, when approached mindfully, can function much like a massage. It allows you to identify areas of soreness, notice where your horse may be itchy, and discover their preferred spots.
This attentive presence helps your horse feel seen, heard, and understood, which in turn strengthens trust and deepens the bond you share.
