Fall in in the air! Happy September everyone!
I am looking to schedule some fall clinics as opportunities to connect with our horses, have some fun, and meet new people before winter is in full swing. I would love feedback on what type of clinics everyone would be most interested in attending!
Here are the ideas from current clients! Comment with your vote(s) or with any other ideas!
1. From the Ground Up
Have you ever wondered why ground work is important or what it has to do with riding? When done correctly, groundwork teaches your horse the same cues you will utilize when riding. Things like going forward, stopping, moving the shoulder or the hip, a side pass, transitions, and everything in between. This clinic would teach you how to build a clear connection with your horse from the ground to under saddle. Whether you want to teach your horse more advanced maneuvers or you have a young horse that has minimal rides, I can promise you will walk away with skills to advance your horse and accomplish that ground to saddle connection.
2. Equine Behavior
Have you ever wondered what your horse is saying, what they need, what they are communicating to you? With my Bachelor's degree in Equine Science, this clinic would be set up partly in the classroom and partly with live horses so you can better understand what a horse is trying to communicate with different behaviors. Horses communicate through body language, it is up to us to learn their language so we can be better caretakers, ethical owners, and build better understanding and connection with the horses in our lives.
3. Seat and Balance
Do you worry about falling off, loosing your balance, or struggle with feeling truly secure in the saddle? This clinic would be for you! Each participant would have the unique opportunity to ride the HomeHorse so I can assist with pointing out each individual's unique strengths and weaknesses when it comes to riding. The HomeHorse is a piece of equipment that allows me to see what muscles are tight, weak, or compensating and causing you to feel unbalanced. For example, a tight hip flexor can cause you to loose a stirrup and I will be able to see that as you ride the HomeHorse. We can then customize exercises for you to work on strengthening your balance and seat so that you can feel secure in the arena, on the trail, or to ride out that spook! Participants would be able to ride the HomeHorse, work on strengthening the seat through the session on the HomeHorse, and then they would be able to ride their own horses and feel how the newly acquired body awareness has improved their seat. (A few lesson horses will be available if hauling your own horse is not possible or if you do not own a horse yet).
4. Trail Safety
Lets face it, we all want to be out on the trail! Especially because those leaves are going to be turning soon and what better way to enjoy the fall colors than horseback! However, riding out on the trail can cause a lot of people anxiety and fear. This clinic would be a two day clinic where the first day was spent at the barn going over trail safety horsemanship and ensuring you are prepared to be out on the trail with your horse. The second day would be a trail ride to practice these concepts and build a firm foundation with support for you and your horse out on the trail!
5. Seasonal Care and First Aid
Have you ever gone out to the barn and been faced with an injury or sick horse. It is a well known fact we don't have enough vets for the amount of horses in this area. Knowing how to take a pulse, temp, and bandage wounds can be life saving while you wait for a vet to come out or haul your horse to town!
Seasonal care would be added into this clinic so you can assist your horse with harsh winters, hots summers, bug sensitivity, and all that comes with living in Wyoming.
