"Cracking the Code: Communication Secrets for Dog Owners"
We just finished up a series of tips that help get dogs to listen to their owners. Communicating with your dog and having your dog listen to you
One thing we wanted to be sure that you don't miss is that teaching your dog to listen to you will help you and your dog overcome a lot of issues including insecurity, fear, reactivity, and more.
Dogs can be a joy to live with, but you're doing both you and your dog a disservice if you haven't trained your dog to listen to you. When your dog trusts you, he will do anything you ask of him, or he will at the very least give it the best effort possible.
Hank, in the video here, has been asked to stand on a quart paint can. He can stand on gallon paint cans all day long, but he couldn't quite do the quart. But he TRIED.
Watch the video...he tried his best. Steve asked him to do it so he was going to put in the effort. And next time we try, he might just make it!
He got two feet on it and a toe on the third foot, but just couldn't quite get those back feet up there. It was the effort and willingness that his Dad was looking for, not perfection.
That dog will TRY anything asked of him, because of that amazing bond they have and the work they've done together.
Hank KNOWS that Steve won't ask him to do anything that would harm him. He TRUSTS Steve. And that's the kind of bond you can have, too, if you work with your dog.
Don't sell your dog short. Your dog can do a lot more than you give him credit for, even if the quart paint can isn't a go...something else will be a go...the fire hydrant, the small stool, the cannon, the cannonballs, the ledge, the unstable bosu ball.
Let your dog learn to trust you and believe in your dog....they are amazing creatures!

Goose is training to be a Therapy Dog for the Savannah Police Department. Along with his handler, he will respond to traumatic incidents, help children tell their story in their own way, and help calm victims, officers and other staff members during difficult times. Therapy dogs help relieve anxiety in all sorts of stressful situations...at the dentist's office, at the car dealership, and, in Goose's case, when some not so good things happen.
