It’s been a while since I last have an update (life has been crazy)! I spent most of my summer working with wildlife and veterinary students in Panama which was an unforgettable experience! I got to work with sloths, venomous and non-venomous snakes, a coati, numerous Amazon parrots and macaws, rabbits, porcupine, turtles, fish and more!! I loved teaching and working with students and the amazing team at Centro Veterinario Panama and APPC!

āœŒšŸ¼years of life on the road as The Venturing VetšŸ‘©šŸ¼ā€āš•ļø! Year two was certainly a challenging one, but fortunately living in an RV is actually ideal during a global pandemic (who knew?). I worked in New York, Colorado, California, Maryland and Texas. I visited 9 more National Parks this year and hiked a lot of miles! It’s been a year of solitude and gratitude and I’ve learned a lot about myself while experiencing the beauty in this country in the midst of one of the scariest years of my life. I survived the Austin snowpocalypse of 2021 (and so did Freedom), the wildfires in RMNP, the Covid-19 pandemic and the great tumbleweed attack of 2020 (see video footage). I still love being a veterinarian and am so glad I followed this crazy dream of mine to pursue a life of travel intertwined with my passion for veterinary medicine. It hasn’t been easy, but it has definitely been worth the blood, sweat and tears that got me here. šŸ¾Cheers to year three and all of the wild and wonderful adventures down the road🚌

We are so happy to be back in beautiful California and always love working with the amazingly talented team at Pets Referral Center in Berkeley! I will be traveling to Denver intermittently throughout the month of April to work at Parker Center Animal Clinic and will be moving to Denver to work there for the entire month of May. How lucky am I to get to work at two of my favorite hospitals in two different states this month?!

We will be working our way east in early June so that I can travel to Panama for 6 weeks this summer to work with various wildlife species (sloths!!) and to teach veterinary students the wonderful world of wildlife conservation and medicine!

Very exciting and busy few months ahead and I am very thankful and grateful to the hospitals who have reached out for relief all the way into March 2022!! Excited to add some new hospitals in some new states to our ever-growing list of some of the most innovative and compassionate veterinary hospitals across the country! As always, thank you for your support and stay tuned for where we will be headed next!

Thank you to everyone for your understanding in the unprecedented weather event we suffered in Texas last week! I’m happy to say that we appear to have made it through relatively unscathed! No pipes burst when we got our heat and water back! I’m glad we made the decision to stay with friends because when we got home I saw that the water in Frankie’s bowl had frozen inside the RV 🄶 I am resuming my last week of work here in Austin at the Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center and will be headed to California on March 1st as scheduled!

P.S. in addition to the new CT and WA licenses I have also now officially submitted the paperwork for my FL license (due to un-relentless and popular demand šŸ˜‰).

I am receiving a lot of emails from various hospitals trying to book dates. Please be patient with me. This week has been extremely stressful, emotional and physically dangerous for me and my pets. As many of you know, I am in Austin, TX and returned from a trip into the worst winter storm Texas has seen (maybe ever?). I wasn’t initially worried about the RV as I’ve survived negative temps and cold in CO with no problem. This was different. We have no access to propane for heat, water to keep our lines from freezing and we cannot move due to the treacherous roads. Texas as a whole was in no way prepared for this type of weather and because of this we have suffered catastrophically. We were forced to evacuate after the temperatures in the RV were too low (38 degrees). I’ve been lucky to have good friends in the area who have taken me in and given me, Frankie and Willow a safe and warm place to stay. We are now going to be living at the hospital as most of my colleagues cannot get in or out to work and I need to relieve the ones who have been stuck there since Sunday. I am distraught at the thought of the damage sustained to my RV during this storm, and am trying to figure out a plan of action as it generally takes months to get anything repaired in an RV and I cannot live in it for months without water.

Please please please know that I am getting your emails but right now my sole concentration is keeping up safe and alive. I will reply to your emails as soon as I can, I promise I am not ignoring you. Please also pray for those in Texas who are going on a week without power, food, heat or water. Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented and emotionally difficult time.

✨Lot’s of exciting announcements for 2021! I will soon (paperwork pending) have added another two state licenses to the list! This means that if you or any hospitals you know need a skilled, professional, passionate, hard working relief vet to provide services in the state of Washington or Connecticut I will be available! šŸ„³šŸ‘‰šŸ¼Don’t forget- I’m also currently licensed in Maryland, Vermont, New York, California, Oregon, Colorado, Texas and Virginia!

I’m currently booked until the end of May in California and Colorado. I am waiting to schedule June-August pending the future travel restrictions for Covid as I’m hoping to be returning to South Africa to continue my passion project sometime this summer!

If I don’t make it to Africa the tentative plan will be serving the east coast during the summer months! If you have requests for the summer months please do not hesitate to send these to me via my website www.theventuringvet.net or directly to my email: [email protected] and I will save all the requests and notify you if I will indeed be in your area and able to provide services!

Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe! As our time is winding down in Texas we will surely miss our friends and work family at Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center, but hope to be back next year!

As many of you know I recently lost my best friend, Clyde very suddenly while I was working in Colorado. I suspect that Clyde had a brain tumor which metastasized to his lungs. Unfortunately/fortunately he showed no signs of being sick until he was critically ill and quickly declined at which point I had to make the very difficult decision to let him go to be with his sister BonniešŸ’”

Frankie, Willow and I have said goodbye to Colorado and made our way south to Texas for the winter. I will be working in Austin at Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center for the winter.

This week, Frankie and I headed North to our home state of Maryland to provide services to one of my favorite hospitals- Pets on the Shore Veterinary Hospital in Salisbury, MD.

Later in December I will head to another favorite hospital- PETS Referral Center in Berkeley, CA, to ring in the new year with some of my favorite veterinarians and veterinary technicians/staff!

Very grateful for these opportunities to work in some wonderful hospitals across the country and to be able to try to help manage the enormous caseload and additional stress on veterinary hospitals caused by Covid this year. I do not know what next year will bring as this year certainly did not follow the carefully planned travel schedule I had originally created. I am truly thankful for my clients who have entrusted me to come in to their hospitals and serve their patients and the colleagues I have had the pleasure to work alongside during this challenging year. I may not be able to travel as much as I would have hoped or see my friends and family but I still get to do what I love every day-help animals and their peoplešŸ‘©šŸ¼ā€āš•ļø

We have made it to our next destination- Colorado! I will be working at a couple hospitals in the Denver metro area: the Animal Emergency and Specialty Center, Parker Center Animal Clinic and the Community Pet Hospital. I’m very excited to be working with such awesome veterinary hospitals while in here in Colorado! I will be providing relief veterinary services in the area until November 12th and then we will be off to Austin, TX again! We have loved exploring in the mountains and some of Colorado’s national parks so far. Looking forward to starting my first shift tomorrow morning!

UPDATE: Since Covid😷has completely changed my plans for this year I figured I’d give a quick update on where I am and what I’m doing now!

I spent the month of June in MarylandšŸ¦€ and got to work with my girls at Pets On The Shore Veterinary Hospital in Salisbury, MD again! Shortly after we headed up to the ā›°Adirondacks in NY for the summer!

I just finished a week of work at Lake Placid Animal HospitalšŸ„‡ which was wonderful! Next I’ll be working at For Pets Sake Animal Center in Glens Falls, NY just south of Lake George.

🚌Freedom has been in the shop since mid June getting some much needed repairs done, hopefully she will be done next week.

For now we are all enjoying our time on Lake George in NYšŸŒ²šŸ„‚with family and are staying safe and healthy!

šŸŽ‰In other news, I recently obtained another state license to add to the list! Can you guess which one? It looks like I’ll be headed to ________ in late September until mid November this year If all goes to plan!

Hope everyone is staying healthy out therešŸ‘©šŸ¼ā€āš•ļø
