Overall we consider today a success! Apu made his first public appearance at Silverwood 2022. He was anxious/excited around all the other bull terriers as expected but still manageable. We also took him to a brewery after and he loved it. He enjoyed all of the people giving him attention and also got a small slice of pizza. 🤫

Apu and his moms both apologize for the lack of updates and photos these last few weeks! A quick update.. Last week, Apu had his reevaluation with the dermatologist and they said his skin already looks so much better! He is continuing antibiotics, skin ointments and receiving medicated baths as well as trialing a strict diet to see if he has any food allergies. Yesterday he had surgery to remove his right eye, so he no longer has to deal with the constant pressure and discomfort the eye was giving him. We will update with pics this weekend of Apu’s continuous recovery ☺️

Apu is doing such a great job every single day having new experiences, learning new concepts and thriving at socializing with his siblings. We cannot wait for him to get through his lengthy heart worm treatment so we can take him to public places and enjoy so many other people and experiences, but for now one day at a time 🥰

Happy Sunday from Apu! He’s enjoying this rainy day lounging on his bed☺️ We thought we would do a side by side comparison of how his skin has changed in almost 2 weeks. There is significantly less swelling in his face and his left eye is doing much better. Some of his sores still like to open up as you can see above his right eye. Everyday he seems to have a little more energy and his personality continues to shine through☺️ Slow and steady!

Here is a photo dump and update of Apu’s first 36 hours! He was anxious as expected when first getting him home. He was kept separate from our other dogs to reduce stress as well as having a vet verify all issues going on with him before introducing him. We worked all Monday night getting him acclimated to his crate and it didn’t take him long to feel comfortable ☺️ He slept most of Monday night and only woke up once to p*e. Yesterday he had his vet appointment in Nashville. He has glaucoma in both eyes specifically his right eye, with the possibility of having it removed. He has an appointment today with an ophthalmologist to see what the next steps are for his eye treatment. He is also on multiple medications for skin and ear infections. His heart worm treatment is under way as well. Apu did so great meeting our pups yesterday and loves being around them. ☺️ Last night he walked right in to his crate for bedtime and slept the entire night. We are so incredibly excited to welcome Apu in to our pack and relieved to get his journey to recovery started.

A little after 12 pm EST today, we found out about a male bull terrier in a Tennessee shelter who was in rough shape. He was found as a stray and unclaimed during his stray hold. He is heartworm positive and has something going on with his eye and skin. We didn’t know a whole lot else about him other than him being VERY sweet. We put out a plea looking for a longterm foster who was willing to deal with all of his medical needs. That plea was heard by a resounding number of you. Within minutes, we had at least 5 different people reach out offering to bring him home and even more since then. We immediately heard from a woman named Heather. Heather and her wife Kayla had previously saved a bull terrier with medical needs named Riku, a Blue Ridge bully. They were devastated when they lost Riku at the end of April, a loss that affected all of us deeply at Blue Ridge as well. As soon as they saw the post on the bully today, Heather reached out and said that Kayla and her would do all they needed to in order to make sure he is taken care of and loved, live about an hour away, would go get him this afternoon. Our hearts became full and we felt that things aligned the way they were suppose too. Heather spent the early afternoon getting the house ready for him and Kayla left work early so that they could go get him. The shelter neutered him today and Heather and Kayla wanted to make sure he would be at their home tonight instead of the shelter so he could recover from that in a more comfortable environment with humans who will be with him all night long. They had the opportunity to name this precious boy and he will now be known as Apu. He just left the shelter with his new moms and is one happy boy. Shortly after this picture he rolled around like a nutty bull terrier does to show his happiness and remind Heather and Kayla what bull terriers are really made of!
