Happy Valentines Day! 💕 Here are some tips to show your bunny love!
1. Give Your Bun New Toys
Bunnies are very intelligent and need interaction and mental stimulation to keep from getting bored. Toys are a great way to provide your bun with fun things to do. There are lots of different kinds of toys you can get for your bunny and every bun will have their own favorites. Some great options are natural chews and woven balls, stacking cups (you can put pellets or other age-appropriate treats in the cups to encourage your bunny to play with them), tunnels! Fleece snuffle foraging mats and treat balls, as well as puzzle toys are also great and provide your bunny with a more natural mentally enriching eating experience (since bunnies are foragers). Oxbow and Small Pet Select are great quality bunny toy brands. Esty is also an awesome place to shop for handmade toys and other wonderful bunny goods, and as a bonus you can support small businesses and bunny parents!
2. Spend Time On Your Bunny's Level
Bunnies are prey animals, so they will feel safer and more comfortable approaching you and spending time with you if you are down on their level. You can spend time sitting or laying on the ground with your bunny and offering them pets (most bunnies love being pet on their heads) and cuddles if they come up to you for attention. This will help deepen your bond!
3. Give Your Bunny Space To Play, Run, & Binky
Bunnies binky (jump up into the air and twitch, hard to describe lol 😅) and do zoomies (run around really fast) when they are happy so they need to have space to be able to stretch, jump, and run. Bunnies are also very curious and love to explore new places. You can set up an interactive play space with tunnels, hides, toys, and foraging experiences for your bunny to explore and play in!
4. Hand-Feed Pellets Or Safe Veggies, Fruits, & Treats
Bunnies love food (the way to their hearts is through their stomachs lol 😂😂) so hand-feeding is a wonderful way to show your bunny that you love them. Always make sure to feed safe and age-appropriate treats. Bunnies under 4-6 months old generally shouldn't have any veggies or fruits, so you can just hand feed them their pellets or small amounts baby bunny safe treats such as hay-based baked treats or oats when they are younger. For adult buns, make sure to always feed fruits in moderation since they are high in sugar (about 1 to 2 tablespoons a few times a week at most). Treats sold in pet stores often contain ingredients that are unhealthy for bunnies, so I recommend looking for homemade treats (Etsy has lots of great options!) or making your own treats from hay, oats, veggies, herbs, and fruits. There are lots of recipes online and you can tweak them to make whatever your bun likes best!
Remember that every bunny is unique and has their own personality so they will like different things! You know your bunny best. How do you show your bunny love? Share in the comments below!!
