A quick pupdate from Roman, who completed the first phase of our service dog program before being released for having a bit too much energy

He went to an active pet home and has (OBVIOUSLY) been living his best life since.

He came from Henry County Humane Society- Kewanee, IL

We’re just so happy for Roman and his family ♥️🐾

As soon as we’re back from Mat leave we plan on evaluating adolescent/adult shelter dogs to see if there is any potential here in some local shelters. Please watch our page for announcements.

Dogs will be posted available as a started service dog first.

-Started dogs have obedience training and have been out and about in public settings and show great promise to success with service work.

- At that point if someone was interested in us finishing the dog fully, we would consider that a placement and would finish the tasks the handler required.

This allows handlers who are ready when the dog is ready to be able to access their helper without the pain of waitlists. In the event we have several interested we match by personality and lifestyle to the dog- so who matched the dogs needs best!

Our private sessions have a new format. Instead of traveling to others homes, we’ve decided to go exclusively remote!

🐾We find remote sessions can be offered at a better price point
And
🐾Are just as effective as in home sessions!

🐕We use our own demo dogs here to show you everything you need step by step. 🐩

This format also allows you to upload training videos to a shared log for help inbetween sessions!

Big new announcement here with ITDT!

We have a brand new hire! 7/19/24 hire date-

This was about 9 months in the making and he’ll take lots of time to learn the job, but we’re confident he’ll get there eventually.

As we welcome our new little apprentice, please note we are in a bit of a temporary stand by and will need patience to get back to everyone.

Likely we will be reformatting parts of our business to better suit the new addition, so watch out for big announcements as they happen.

This is one that needs to be put to bed once and for all. It pains me to think of all the dogs who suffer unnecessarily because of the prevalence of this myth.

If you are afraid of something and someone hugs you and comforts you with gentle words, does that make you more afraid? Of course not. It helps calm you and makes you feel better.

So, let's keep this in mind as the US heads into the holiday and all the scary booms.

When you see videos of trainers online you probably hear lots of “yes!” ✅“Good!” ✅Or even “click!” ✅ From a clicker.

The use and timing of those is used very purposefully and they are what we call markers.

Markers, aptly named, mark a moment in time the dog did exactly what you wanted, it gives them great clarity on what actually paid them their reward.

Can anyone tell me our NUMBER ONE marker rule? 🤔

Happy fur-ever after, Pluto!! 🥰🐾

Pluto has been adopted!

At the shelter we believe there is a perfect home for every animal. We knew Pluto would be a little more difficult to place given that he weighs close to 90 pounds, is a bully breed, and is deaf. But we struck gold 💰!!! Pluto's new dad, who has experience with large breed shelter dogs, came multiple times to the shelter to get to know Pluto and fell in love with him. Pluto will get lots of love, walks, and pup cups 🍦! And thank you to In Tandem Dog Training for donating 3 free sessions to Pluto's dad so that Pluto can be the bestest boy!

We are so incredibly spoiled by our clients sometimes. This precious card was a big thank you from pet parents who recently boarded with us. Their sweet boy worked on not jumping, leash pulling, and being able to settle when his zoomies got a bit too much to handle. They wrote he has made great progress and nothing makes me more proud than knowing we provided a functional solution for everyone involved.

Our pet parents often go above and beyond to show us how thankful they are, and what a blessing it is to do what I love and be loved for doing it.

We love every dog we welcome into the ITDT family- you all know who you are.

This class is a beginners trick course designed to be fun, engaging, and oh so impressive 😎

We hear “my dog is very protective” all of the time. Often, when we ask more questions it turns out to be reactivity- sometimes excitement based and sometimes by the dog being unsure or even fearful. Often these feelings are compounded by leash frustration, which can be a dangerous combination!

The biggest challenge with this common misconception is that sometimes dogs are put into situations where they’re incredibly uncomfortable. While the owner just feels they need to be less protective and “knock it off” the dog feels frightened at best, desperately trying to create distance between the trigger and themselves.

He’s really grown up so fast these last few weeks. For a puppy, he’s really settled into a working role and shows a good understanding and love of the job.

I’d like to say we’ve pumped sooo much time into him, but in all honesty most of his achievement is his own temperament and demeanor. He patterns well and makes training easy, which makes my job easier than it should be.

We’re in the final countdown to handing him off to his handler, about 60 days left to teach him a handful of cues before we say goodbye.

I imagine I’ll work with them as a team for tasking if they need it, however I’m cherishing what time I have him left to myself. I’ll miss my little chocolate shadow
