Walks are all about quality over quantity! Sniffing & exploring come before structure unless otherwise requested.
Sniffing calms the parasympathetic nervous system & helps bring your dog into a state of relaxation. Alan here enjoyed a 45-minute walk today and spend around 30-minutes of that doing nothing but leading the way via sniffing. He was happy as a clam, and will have a nice relaxed afternoon post-walk!

I’ve been asked this question quite a few times recently…great opportunity to make a post about it!
At Orange Leash, I currently provide professional walking and sitting services. I use the tools that are provided to me as far as equipment goes. I will never put your dog in a prong or e-collar if you are not already utilizing one.
If your dog is regularly being walked or trained with these tools, I will happily use them during my time with them for continuity purposes. These tools should be introduced & utilized with the guidance of a professional trainer. These tools should not be left on your dog all day long, especially while they are resting or sleeping! It’s diabetes awareness month! You can read more about diabetes in pets on the AVMA website (https://www.avma.org/resources/pet-owners/petcare/diabetes-pets). Diabetes is a manageable condition. Although administering insulin to pets may seem intimidating, your vet will guide you with a crash course on how to do it safely and properly.
If you’re ever unsure about administrating medications at home, I’m always here to help. 🧡 the technicians at your veterinarian’s office will also be happy to have you back in for extra guidance. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Routine visits keep their health in check, help maintain good rapport/familiarity with the veterinarian, and allow me to provide optimal care while you’re away. This is why I ask so many questions when meeting you + your furry friends. If I’m stepping outside with your dog (which is inevitable), I need to know that they’re protected.
It’s imperative that your pet is up to date on core vaccines, preventatives for flea/tickborn illnesses/parasites like worms. This all keeps them protected against a very long list of undesirable illnesses and their various outcomes. It also protects other pets they may come into contact with.
You’re doing everybody a favor when you diligently maintain your pet’s health. In the rare case of a medical emergency, knowing that an animal is good to go on all of these fronts greatly increases the pace at which treatment can begin. It also eliminates a lot of scary possibilities. 🧡

Cats are opportunistic feeders. If food is available, they will eat it. So what gives?
Although they’ve been bred to depend on us, our pets still carry their fair share of instinctual behaviors. The better we understand them, the easier they are to live and work with.
In the wild, cats never know when their next meal will come along. Each catch is either consumed immediately or stored for later. This is no different in the home. Cats will simply leave a bit of kibble behind for later, just in case. Cats typically won’t finish what they leave behind unless they’re feeling desperately hungry. This behavior is much more common with free-feeding, but is not limited to cats who receive a set amount of food per day. My cat receives 1/4cup twice per day and never fails to save a decent handful. Follow along for more!
