The "puppy blues" is a common experience for new dog owners, characterized by feelings of anxiety and overwhelm after bringing a new puppy or dog home.
In addition to exercise, love, and patience, there is one sure-fire antidote to the puppy blues: effective training.
First and foremost, call Dog Training Elite Lowcountry to get a professional evaluation on your dog's unique needs.
Second, create a consistent schedule for feeding, potty breaks, playtime, timeouts, and training. A routine helps both you and your puppy know what to expect, reducing anxiety and chaos.
Third, ensure your puppy gets enough physical exercise and mental stimulation. Puzzle toys, interactive games, and regular walks can help burn off energy and reduce destructive behavior.
Lastly, remember that even the BEST adult dogs were once mischievous little land sharks who needed to be let out for potty breaks at 2 am.
You got this!

According to a recent survey conducted by Forbes Advisor, 1 in 4 people have serious regrets about getting a dog.
But here's the reality . . . if you surrender your dog while it has training or behavioral issues, the chances of that dog being rehomed or surrendered again is much greater!
Before you call it quits, give your dog the chance to show you how ELITE he can be. Give him a shot with the best dog training method in the area! We get results.

Although we work with dogs every single day, we are constantly learning amazing new things about them! (Fun Fact #6 is our favorite and partly explains why dogs LOVE being trained as service animals!)
1. Petting a dog lowers human blood pressure—and the dog's too!
2. Dogs curl up in a ball when they sleep to protect their vital organs, a survival instinct from their wild ancestors.
3. Yawning is contagious for dogs too. Hearing a human yawn, especially from someone they know, makes dogs four times more likely to yawn.
4. Dogs can sense heat and thermal radiation with their noses, allowing blind or deaf dogs to hunt effectively.
5. When dogs kick backward after bathroom breaks, they're marking their territory with scent glands in their feet, not trying to cover up their p**p.
6. Recent research reveals that dogs are among the few animals who exhibit voluntary, unselfish kindness to others without expecting a reward.
7. A dog's nose has its own unique pattern—just like human fingerprints!

We know you love your dog, but you don't have to love all his behavioral issues too. If your dog struggles with aggression, anxiety, destructive chewing/digging, accidents, and/or hyperactivity, ask for a free in-home consultation to find out what can be done to improve your dog's behavior.

Recognizing signs of anxiety is the first step to helping your dog. Have you noticed any or all of the following behaviors?
- Excessive panting or drooling
- Pacing or restlessness
- Excessive barking or whimpering
- Trembling or shaking
- Avoidant behavior or hiding
- Destructive chewing or digging
- Loss of appetite
- Aggression or irritability

If you've ruled out lack of exercise, your dog may be experiencing anxiety and fearfulness.
But here's the good news: just like humans, dogs can learn confidence!
Select training packages at Dog Training Elite Lowcountry include the option to train your dog to be calm, less reactive and more confident. Ask for a free in-home training demo for more details.

One thing that we can proudly say about the dogs that go through the training program at Dog Training Elite Lowcountry, is that they radiate with a sense of pride and joy.
When a dog learns to understand his owner and respond accordingly, his confidence soars!
Your dog yearns to please YOU. Show him how.

Imagine you and your dog are headed to the base of a beautiful mountain—one you've anticipated hiking together for years. You park along a dirt road and the air is filled with the scent of pine; the sound of wildlife is all around you. You open the door and as you get out of the car, your dog sits patiently, completely focused on you and your cues.

This is a leash-optional trail, and you're thrilled that you put in the work to train for a reliable and consistent recall. You know if you encounter any dangerous wildlife, your dog will obey your command to "leave it". Other hikers won't have to worry about being jumped on or barked at because that too has been trained, and your dog has even passed the Canine Good Citizen test.

You enjoy a blissful 4-mile hike without any issues and are deeply grateful for the work you put into having such an elite companion.

Does this sound like your dog? Are you ready for warm-weather adventures with your best friend? Call Dog Training Elite Lowcountry for a free consultation—we can help you get there! 843-934-2823

Did you know that when you tell your dog to "place", they are being asked to stay in that position for as long as you ask them to—even if your're not paying attention to them?
Your dog's ability for self restraint can be strengthened as they age. A puppy may only be able to go a few seconds, but a 2-year-old dog can be taught to "place" for much longer AND do it with plenty of distractions!

Do you have a dog who is too dominant? Does he fiercely guard his food or treats? Constantly test rules like 'no jumping on furniture'? Relentlessly pull on his leash on walks?
Some breeds are more prone to dominant behavior (beagles, chihuahuas, Rottweilers, German shepherds, pit bulls, and Jack Russell terriers), but any dog can test your boundaries. At Dog Training Elite Lowcountry, we can help you teach your dog to respect you and rise to higher expectations.

When you're head-over-heels for your dog, it's natural to want more of that love. Having multiple dogs definitely has its pros and cons, and it's important to carefully consider how this choice could affect you and your current dog.

THE PROs

1. Companionship: A second dog can provide additional companionship for both you and your existing dog. They can keep each other company, reducing feelings of loneliness.

2. Increased Activity: With two dogs, there's more opportunity for play and exercise. They can engage in activities together, keeping each other active and healthy.

3. Socialization Benefits: Having two dogs can enhance socialization skills, as they learn to interact with each other and potentially with other dogs more effectively.

THE CONs

1. Financial Costs: Adding a second dog means additional expenses for food, veterinary care, grooming, and other supplies. It's important to consider the financial commitment involved.

2. Time and Attention: Caring for two dogs requires more time and attention. Training, walks, playtime, and general care will demand additional effort to ensure both dogs thrive.

3. Potential Compatibility Issues: Dogs have unique personalities, and not all dogs get along seamlessly. Dog Training Elite Lowcountry can help with any issues along the way to help dog ownership remain an overall positive and joyful experience!

Why do we teach "place" as a basic command?
1 - Training Foundation: The "place" command is essential for building a strong foundation; it enhances communication and attention between you and your dog, making future training sessions more effective.
2 - Behavioral Control: The "place" command provides a clear and consistent way to manage your dog's behavior. It helps establish boundaries and reinforces your role as the leader. This can be particularly useful in situations where you want your dog to stay calm, safe, or attentive.
3 - Manners: Teaching your dog to go to a designated place is a life saver when you have guests or visitors—especially those who may be uncomfortable around dogs. It allows you to have better control over your dog's interactions and helps create a positive environment for everyone involved.
4 - Reducing Anxiety: For some dogs, having a designated place can create a sense of security and reduce anxiety. This is especially true in new environments or when faced with unfamiliar stimuli. The command can serve as a cue for your dog to find a safe spot and stay calm.
5 - Tricks: As shown in some of the photos, it's a pretty cool party trick to show your dog's talent to "place" on a fire hydrant, playground toys, or whatever climbable object is around!
