Notice About Aluminum Cans

Because of the increasing difficulty of hauling large amounts of cans to the recycling plant, we will no longer be able to accept cans at our Bluemont location. We thank those that have supported us this way for many years but unfortunately, it has become non-cost efficient.

Casey's House now has a foster who can take in one momma cat with kittens. If the person turning them in can take the momma cat back after the kittens are weaned, that would be great. We'll pay to have her spayed and vaccinated.

A few weeks ago we took in a local (Clarke County) colony of feral cats whose caretakers were retiring and moving out of the area. Because of this, we are now at our capacity and will not be able to accept new residents for the foreseeable future. This is because we do not put cats down in order to make room for other cats. All of our cats are guaranteed sanctuary for their natural lives, euthanasia is only used when it is in the cat's best interest. Here are some pics of some of our new residents!

This is Nina, five years old. She was adopted out five years ago, but has now been brought back. Apparently, she doesn't do well with overly active dogs (she was fine with an older dog) and she doesn't particularly like being a kid's play toy. At my house, she has had minor issues with my other cats (very minor).

In short, I think that she would do fine in a home with older children who respect her space and/or with 1-2 other animals that are not overly friendly or overly aggressive with her. She's doing well here so there is no hurry, I just figured that I'd put this out there since she is relatively young for being a cat at Casey's House. We try to keep our emphasis on older and hard to adopt cats.

Stage one of our re-do is done. The cats now have a nice new eating area and two spruced up cages! We use the cages for vet appointments and to help new cats adjust to their new surroundings. It's been a challenge learning how to use a saw but, we're getting it done!

We wish to thank our supporters for your generosity! Thanks to good people like you, we will be able to continue to take care of the cats in our care.

We will also be doing at least one large transport to the spay/neuter clinic in the early spring. We will do a "special" of sorts, females free for every male, that sort of thing. Stay tuned!

November 27, 2020

Dear Friend of Casey’s House,

If you’re able, please make a donation to Casey’s House so that we can continue our mission of being a sanctuary for unadoptable cats. Below are the stories of three of our cats, their stories are representative of the cats that we serve. Please read about Puddin, Pooh-Bear, and Possum and, if you can, please make your tax-deductible gift to Casey’s House to help us take care of them, as well as the rest of the cats here at Casey’s House. Donations can be made by check and mailed using the enclosed addressed envelope or via our secure donation portal at our website which is noted above. We will also set up a Facebook fundraiser, if you prefer to give using that platform. If you are unable to donate at this time, there are many other ways you can support us! Casey’s House participates with Amazon Smile, a link to which can be found at our website. Further, you can advocate for us by sharing our mission with a family member or friend. Even a quick mention on your social media would mean the world to us.

In times like this, we’re reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you for being part of our community. Without you, none of it is possible!

Stay safe and well,
Cindy Ingram

This Possum, she has been with us for about five years. She is blind and when she first came in, she was very shy and timid. She stayed in her shell for a good four years! Last winter, she busted her way out of that shell and became particularly attached to Tim, our cats' care-giver. She, and cats like her are now our one primary focus at Casey's House. The cats that come here are not adoptable and Casey's House is their last chance of living a life without the risk of being put down to make room for more adoptable cats. This limits how many cats that we can accept into our sanctuary. Our intake policy, as well as our new spay/neuter schedule can be found at our updated website www.caseyshouse.org. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions about our new policies. Many thanks to all of our supporters!

Hi Cindy,

I adopted a kitten from you about two years ago now, he has been an absolute joy ever since. The reason for my email today is because I’m wondering if you might be able to help me. A few months ago we found a feral kitten (8 months) who ended up being accompanied by 5 beautiful kittens. My husband and I are keeping one kitten, as well as the mother. We had two boys adopted as a pair so that leaves me with a male and female bonded pair that I am desperate to have adopted together. To make things slightly more difficult we would consider the male “special needs” his name is Isaac, after a very bad eye infection as a baby his right eye is sealed shut. It does not inhibit him, hurt him or affect him in anyway. It works and he can see through a small opening. We were told that he will most likely have eye problems on and off for the rest of his life and will need to be treated as needed. He has seen an ophthalmologist at the Veterinary Referral Center in Manassas who believes surgery could potentially make the problem worse so he just looks a little goofy! :) His sisters name is Bonnie and she’s in perfect health, we just need to get her in for her rabies.

What we are looking for is advertisement really, it has been difficult getting any rescue to help us without giving up the kittens completely and we have been through a lot with them, we are desperate to seem them all the way through to their adoptions.

It took 3 very long nights and trespassing to find the kittens. About a week after we had the kittens we had a non refundable vacation planned, they all got hit with URIs at the same time, I contacted someone with a local pet sitting business and she agreed to take them for the week. By the time we got home she refused to return the kittens and their mother and we had to get the police involved. She was arrested on felony theft charges and we are still in an ongoing case against her. They were not returned voluntarily but by search warrant from animal control. We did not find out until afterwards that she has a history of taking cats and hoarding them. So after our ordeal we are also very weary about handing them off to anyone.

I hope that in some way you will be able to help me, they have had nothing but excellent vet care, I have all records/bills, we just want to see them go to a great home together.

Below are a picture of the two kittens, Bonnie and Isaac. And then a photo update of our Lucifer, who we adopted from you two years ago.

Thank you,

Mckayla

KK, our latest resident. She is a blind cat that has settled into our bedroom. Other than being a little messy in the litter box, she is perfectly suited for house life. Very friendly! Strategic placement of the litter box with a mat should be enough to keep things from being too messy. Please email Cindy at [email protected] if you are interested in giving this very sweet girl a home!
