Donating made simple on our website!
We will be able to remove a few more cats from the Lyons home situation in the next few days! Thank you!!

The Working Cat Project seeks to educate the public about the plight of domesticated cats and the need to spay and neuter. We advocate for all cats, living inside or outside, to be happy and healthy in the environment that suits them best and free from reproducing.

Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 and Happy Holidays!! We are grateful for the support and encouragement we are given.

The animals don’t know it’s a holiday so here we are faced with an urgent situation on this day of peace. The purpose of this post is to help the cats and bring awareness to the fact that Burt County, Nebraska has no animal shelter, no services for stray and homeless animals whatsoever.

30-35 cats in Lyons, Nebraska need immediate and urgent attention. No one currently lives in the home. Volunteers withstood biohazard conditions to feed these starving animals. The cats have not yet been removed because there is no place for 35 cats to go. Don’t think for one minute we haven’t tried. When given lemons, make lemonade, and that is what we will do. We will solve our own problem and not burden already burdened shelters and rescues.

A local resident is providing the building space. We need supplies. Cat beds, cat towers, cat litter, cat food, and a minimum of $3500 to get these cats the vet care they need. The cats rub on our legs, want petting, and purr. Beautiful cats. Some calicos and siamese mix and every other color. Some cats maybe more suitable for farm placement. All cats will be evaluated, vetted, rehabilitated, and placed in homes that suit the cat’s needs. Every cat will be treated individually and the best decisions made.

We can’t do this without funding. We can’t do this without support. Our goal is to have all cats in new homes or farm placement in no more than two months.

Financial donations can be made several different ways. Please keep in mind that donations made through facebook will not be received until the end of January.

This message goes out to all those who don’t spay and neuter their farm cats. Farm cats not fixed bother your neighbors!! Unaltered cats roam! This cat is definitely a farm cat. He’s not hungry, but crying at the back door, causing stress to the resident dog, and won’t go home!! He will eventually, hopefully, but your neighbor should not have to put up with it!! A female looking just like this male showed up a couple weeks ago. This guy appears to be her offspring. People may think it’s ok to not spay and neuter farm cats. It’s not ok because they still bother the neighborhood!! Spayed and neutered cats don’t roam!! Fix your farm cats! Sincerely, your neighbor!

Marble and Minion need a home! They are sweet, cuddly, and gentle boys! Just 10 weeks old! They were saved from certain death outside in the cold as they are too little to survive the winter. The caretaker, who has left for Florida for the winter, stated she would rather shoot the mother cat than spay her. They are Neutered, age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped! Please share!!

Because of you, we are able to spay and neuter approximately 50 cats per month. Spaying one outside female cat saves hundreds of kittens from illness, starvation and death over the course of that female’s life time. Spay and neuter saves more lives than rescue. You are saving lives with every dollar donated.

This is Dakota. She was found in 2020 when Working Cat Project began. Found at DeSoto Bend Wildlife Refuge located between Blair, NE and Missouri Valley, IA. She was thin, starving, still had a couple of her blue nail caps attached. She came back to us a couple months ago. She has a bladder stone that is scheduled for removal December 17th. Because of you, we can help Dakota once again. She is an exceptionally sweet cat that will need a new home.

We help people. We help people help themselves. These cats are located in Council Bluffs. They showed up as kittens. The home owner, as many people do, felt sorry for them and began to feed them. They are not tame. The home owner reached out wanting to find these young, beautiful cats a better living situation. The home owner trapped the cats and drove them an hour to us so we could get them spayed / neutered, which is actually happening today. They have a new place lined up to to call home where they will be well cared for. Because of you, we are able to help cats like these and the people who care about them.

This is Aleta Jessen’s colony. One of two colonies that she feeds in Decatur. All spayed and Neutered. She did not create any of these cats but has responded to their need for food, water, and shelter. Because of you, we are able to create healthy colonies that aren’t reproducing and keep rodent populations in check. The more the are fed the more the cats will hunt and protect their territory from more cats moving in. TNR at work in Decatur! We have other communities needing help, wanting help, but no funding.
