Need some help! 3 cats abandoned in an apartment in Oakland, NE. The apartment isn’t suitable for humans to live. The Oakland police department is absolutely no help. A neighbor took the cats to his apartment because the cats were screaming and without food. There are no shelter services in Burt County. No shelter, no police help, no nothing. Just throw them out on the street or leave them in the apartment to die. That’s the attitude of the city of Oakland. Red Barn vet in Oakland would take them but someone has to pay for their vetting.

ANIMAL CONTROL IS GOVERNMENTS RESPONSIBILITY

These cats are use to being outside. Any one looking for tame farm cats?? They will be spayed and neutered!

The Manx kitten’s story is one that isn’t pleasant, but needs to be told from start to finish now that we have a final ending.

5 little kittens were born to a mostly tame, Manx mother named Bob on April 20th. Bob was an outside cat in need of TNR. TNR isn’t always pleasant. The satisfaction and joy gained in this work is seeing the transformation that occurs in spayed and neutered cats. Unless one has experienced the positive change, it’s hard to understand. The unpleasant parts prior to spay and neuter are illness, disease, suffering and death especially to the kittens.

75% of kittens born outside die.

This is a fact.

These kittens suffer greatly. We wish we could unsee what we have seen.

The mother’s suffer as well. Babies stuck with feet hanging out of the birth canal. Babies stuck to mom’s tail as she drags them along. Mom’s that abandon the babies after birth because mom can’t feed herself much less babies. Infected uterus causing sepsis and death of the mother.

We advise caregivers to spay regardless of pregnancy for the health of the mother and to prevent the babies from suffering. However, it is caregiver’s choice after being advised of all the issues and potential problems.

Bob the Manx mother became septic after delivery from an infected uterus. This means the babies were living in infection until they were born. Bob received a quite costly emergency spay to save her life, but she could no longer care for the babies. If people were not around to help, Bob and all the babies would have died, which most of them died anyway.

One kitten was born paralyzed in the back legs and died within 24 hours. Two other kittens succumb to the infection they were born with over the course of the first 3 weeks of their lives. 2 kittens, Paris and Smokey, remained and were raised successfully by Danielle Anderson. She poured her heart and soul into these babies. Paris, however doesn’t have a happy ending. Her Manx condition left her with with f***l incontenence. She pooped uncontrollably, had a chronic sore rear end, and would occasionally prolapse. She was humanely euthanized to end her pain.

Smokey finally went to his forever home this week. A small victory in the scope of the bigger picture.

6 cats. Mom and one baby survived because we intervened, but 4 babies suffered and died. Many will disagree, but these babies should not have been born to suffer and die.

This ordeal cost close to $2000. A simple spay prior to delivery at a cost of $200 would have prevented pain and suffering, not only the cats but also their foster mom. We hurt for her and can’t make the pain go away.

Please hit the donate button if you would like to help with costs and bring Paris’s ashes back to Danielle.

2 kittens available! 2 spoken for!

We have 4 sweet, loving, and fun tabby boys! Male tabbies can be the most docile and loving cats, more so than female cats. These boys were raised in a home with their mother and have learned all the proper social skills. They come neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped! Please share!

Thank you everyone! You are amazing people! All of the kittens have found homes! However, we have more coming!

We have 6 little kittens almost 3 months old that are in desperate need of homes. They are spayed or neutered, age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, flea tick protection, and microchipped. Donation fees to help cover vetting costs are drastically reduced to get these babies in a home. Please share!! 3 boys 3 girls.

Let’s talk about cat hoarding. Many people are unaware of the basic truths that create and perpetuate a cat hoarding situation.

1. Accumulation of cats can happen to ANYONE.
2. NO ONE decides to become a cat hoarder.
3. NO ONE wants to BE a cat hoarder.
4. Cat Hoarding can begin with just ONE FEMALE cat.
5. Cat hoarding begins with an individual responding to a homeless and hungry cat.
6. Cat hoarding becomes a mental health issue for many different reasons.
7. The cost to spay and neuter is prohibitive for the individual once the first litter is born.
8. One female cat will produce 14 kittens annually. Half will be females that will begin producing 14 kittens annually at 4-6 months of age.
9. Cats can overwhelm an individual in less than a year.
10. Giving kittens away is difficult.
11. Shelters and rescues are full.

Just helping a person spay that one female stray cat that showed up hungry on the door step, you could prevent the next 64 cat hoarding situation. Help your neighbor or family member get their cat(s) spayed or neutered. Make sure it gets done.

“If you can’t afford the cat you should not have one” - this statement has never done nor will ever do anything to stop the overpopulation of cats. The solution begins with each one of us. Sponsor a cat spay or neuter. Once a month perhaps. For a family member or a neighbor perhaps. Just do it.

We are faced with these situations daily. We have to tell people that we can’t help them because we don’t have the funds. We need funding to help get that stray female spayed before she multiplies. Spays and Neuters save more lives than rescue!!

Update: we are removing the photos from this post.

The hoard of 64 cats…. We can no longer be silent. Pictured below: One of many piles of cat f***s and a few of the dead kittens found randomly throughout the house.

There are more cats at the property. The house has not been cleaned up. The resident will not allow us to trap and spay / neuter the remaining cats.

We have the donated funds set aside to spay and neuter the rest of the cats once we are allowed to do so. Please send financial donations to Catz Angels Care in Fremont for the continued care of the sick and injured.

We will not allow another 64 cats to be produced. Please know we are working to stop the death and destruction with local law enforcement.

He found a home!

This little muffin was found on the side of the road. He was dumped along with at least one sibling that has also been found.

How can we stop this practice of “dumping” animals? Answer: decrease the number of unwanted animals through spay and neuter.

Yes, it’s that simple!! Remove the source of unwanted animals.

Many rural areas across Nebraska do not have low cost vet care and sheltering services. Burt County is a perfect example.

Received this message today. Location is Blair. We will update the cats vaccinations and make sure he is healthy. There is no place for this cat to go. Please share.

Someone dumped this guy across the street from Cargill. A lady I know has been feeding him for the past two weeks. I put out a post to see if someone was looking for him, but no response. He has been in indoor kitty and is sweet. Do you know of anyone who could take him? He is neutered.

Ask for want you want they say. This maybe a long shot, but we NEED help with transportation to and from Beatrice Humane Society’s spay / neuter clinic. Mondays and Thursdays. Transport legs are Fremont to Wahoo, Wahoo to Lincoln, Lincoln to Beatrice, and the reverse for pick up. Do we have any followers willing and that have the time to help? We cannot get all the cats in need spayed and neutered fast enough and need to utilize the Beatrice clinic on a regular basis. Please share and let’s see if we can make this happen!

Cats are amazing. This spectacular girl was returned to her outside home within 8 hours after spay surgery. She was released where she was trapped. Within 5 minutes of release she is trotting through the neighborhood with a ground squirrel in her mouth. The process of TNvR is safe. The clinic process used is designed to allow safe same day release. The Mead Mamma Cat can now provide effective rodent control and enjoyed by the people who watch her living her best life without the production of more kittens. “More Kittens”, when put together, these two words are the worst in all of animal sheltering and rescue. Let’s help keep to a minimum!
