🐟 TCVM Food Therapy Friday: Spotlight on SARDINES 🐟

Small, delicious, and deeply nourishing — sardines are a TCVM-approved powerhouse for supporting whole-body wellness. Their neutral energetic nature makes them a safe, balanced food for many dogs and cats.

✨ Why TCVM Loves Sardines:
• Energetic Nature: Neutral—making them versatile for a wide range of constitutions.
• Omega-3 Rich: Helps reduce inflammation and supports joint, heart, and skin health.
• Nutrient-Dense: Loaded with calcium, vitamin D, B vitamins, and essential minerals.
• Easily Digestible: Gentle on the digestive system and well-tolerated by most pets.
• Supports Kidney & Liver Systems: Beneficial for vitality, detoxification, and aging pets.

💡 TCVM Tip:
Because sardines are neutral, they help nourish without contributing Heat or Cold. This makes them excellent for pets with chronic inflammation, dry skin, stiffness, or those needing gentle whole-body support.

At B'ahava Veterinary Health & Wellbeing, we love incorporating clean, whole foods like sardines to help support balance, nourishment, and long-term wellness.

🐾Add a little sardine goodness to your pet’s bowl this week and show us in the comments what they think! Pro Tip: Look for sardines packed in water—they're a much better choice for pets than those in oil!

Curious which foods align best with your pet’s element? We’re happy to guide you. We’re here to help.

🌿 TCVM Spotlight: The Five Element Theory 🌿

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, the Five Element Theory helps us understand your pet’s unique constitution, behaviors, and patterns of imbalance. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, this approach looks at how energy moves through the body and how each pet expresses the elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

✨ Wood – Growth, movement, ambition. Wood pets are active and determined; imbalances may involve irritability or liver/tendon issues.
🔥 Fire – Joy, warmth, expression. Fire pets are social and affectionate; imbalances may show as anxiety or heart-related concerns.
🌱 Earth – Nurturing, stability, digestion. Earth pets are calm and gentle; imbalances can affect weight or stomach/spleen health.
💨 Metal – Structure, clarity, respiration. Metal pets love routine; imbalances may involve skin or respiratory issues.
💧 Water – Wisdom, calm, resilience. Water pets are observant and cautious; imbalances often relate to kidneys, bladder, or bones.

At B'ahava Veterinary Health & Wellbeing, we use the Five Element Theory to tailor your pet’s care with precision. Whether through acupuncture, herbal therapy, food therapy, or environmental support, aligning the elements helps restore balance, ease discomfort, and support the body’s natural healing pathways.

🌟 Every pet carries all five elements—but one typically shines the brightest. Understanding your pet’s dominant element can help unlock a more harmonious, individualized wellness plan.

Ready to explore your pet’s elemental nature? We’re here to guide you. 🌿✨

🌿 TCVM + Standard Process: A Holistic Approach to Pet Wellness 🌿

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, our goal is to support the whole pet — body, mind, and spirit. We look at patterns, balance, and the flow of Qi to understand how each organ system is functioning. One of the most effective ways to reinforce this balance is through high-quality, whole-food supplements that nourish from the inside out.

That’s where Standard Process truly stands out - and we’re excited to announce that B’ahava Veterinary Health & Wellbeing will now be carrying Standard Process supplements!

Not only are their formulas made from nutrient-rich whole foods, but Standard Process grows a large portion of its ingredients on its own certified organic farm in Wisconsin, ensuring they are free from pesticides and herbicides. The company also enforces its own high internal guidelines to ensure quality, in addition to meeting all FDA and state USDA regulations. This commitment to purity and safety aligns beautifully with TCVM principles of natural, clean nourishment.

✨ How Standard Process Complements TCVM:
🔸 Provides whole-food nutrients that support organ systems in deficiency
🔸 Helps reduce inflammation and strengthen immune function
🔸 Enhances digestive health and nutrient absorption
🔸 Supports energy, vitality, and overall balance
🔸 Works synergistically with diet therapy and TCVM herbal formulas
🔸 Uses organically grown ingredients for clean, safe supplementation
🔸 Meets rigorous internal and regulatory quality standards

By pairing Eastern medical wisdom with whole-food, organically grown nutrition, we give our pets the tools they need to heal, thrive, and live more comfortably.

🐾 Supporting wellness from every angle — that’s the beauty of integrative care.

✨ TCVM Tui-Na: Healing Through Touch ✨

Tui-Na is one of the four core branches of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, offering a hands-on approach to supporting the body’s natural ability to heal. Through a combination of massage techniques, acupressure, and gentle stretching, Tui-Na works to improve the flow of Qi and blood throughout the body, helping restore balance and harmony.

This therapeutic modality can benefit pets in many ways:
🐾 Eases muscle tension and joint stiffness
🐾 Supports mobility and comfort in senior or arthritic pets
🐾 Helps reduce stress and anxiety
🐾 Promotes circulation and overall wellness
🐾 Complements acupuncture and herbal therapies beautifully

Tui-Na isn’t just a treatment — it’s a bonding experience. Our pets feel the calming, intentional touch, and the results often speak for themselves.

👐 A little mindful touch can make a BIG difference.

🌿 Mantra Monday: Food is Medicine 🌿

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, food is more than nutrition — it is one of our most powerful healing tools. Every ingredient carries its own energy, temperature, flavor, and function within the body. When we choose foods with intention, we support balance, harmony, and long-term wellness from the inside out.

✨ Why TCVM Food Therapy Matters:
Just like acupuncture and herbal medicine, food therapy helps us address each pet’s unique pattern, not just their symptoms. By understanding whether a pet has excess Heat, Cold, Stagnation, or Deficiency, we can create meals that support healing on a deeper level.

For example:
🍠 Warming foods (like sweet potato or chicken) help boost energy, strengthen Qi, and support pets who are tired, cold-natured, or arthritic.
🥒 Cooling foods (like cucumber or turkey) help calm inflammation, soothe skin irritations, and settle pets who run hot.
🍚 Neutral foods (like rice or beef) gently nourish overall wellness and are great foundations for balance.

When we align a pet’s diet with their Constitution, every meal becomes a step toward improved comfort, vitality, and quality of life.

🐾 Because when we feed with purpose… we heal with intention.

🔥 Boosts energy in pets with sluggish digestion or lower vitality

In TCVM, choosing the right food is a gentle way to help the body rebalance. Adding lamb—when recommended by your TCVM veterinarian—can provide comforting warmth and nourishment from the inside out.

🌿 Western vs. Eastern Herbal Medicine in TCVM ~ What’s the Difference?

Both Western herbal therapy and Chinese herbal medicine can support healing—but they work in very different ways. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you understand why your TCVM veterinarian may choose one approach… or blend the best of both.

✨ Western Herbal Medicine

Focuses on the biochemical actions of each herb.

✔️ Uses single herbs or simple combos
✔️ Targets specific symptoms or organ systems
✔️ Works similarly to pharmaceuticals
✔️ Great for anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, pain relief, liver support, and more!

Example: Milk thistle for liver support due to its silymarin content.

✨ Chinese Herbal Medicine (TCVM)

Focuses on balance—Qi, Yin/Yang, and organ harmony.

✔️ Uses multi-herb, synergistic formulas
✔️ Customized based on TCVM Pattern Diagnosis (Heat, Dampness, Qi Deficiency, etc.)
✔️ Aims to correct root imbalances, not just symptoms
✔️ Herbs play coordinated roles: “chief,” “assistant,” “guide”

Example: Wei Qi Booster for Wei Qi Deficiency; Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan for Yin Deficiency with Heat.

🌱 Key Differences at a Glance

🌿Western Herbals: Target symptoms, use single herbs, pharmacology-based, standardized dosing, quick relief.

☯ Chinese Herbals: Target underlying patterns, use multi-herb formulas, balance-based approach, pattern-specific dosing, long-term rebalancing.
