I’m just going to be blunt here -
If you bring me your double coated dog and want it shaved for any reason other than it being medically necessary, I will curse under my breath the ENTIRE time I’m doing so.

FYI:
It doesn’t keep them cooler
It doesn’t stop them from shedding
It can cause their coat to not grow back
They don’t look cute

Schedule regular deshed grooms with me.
Let’s make sure their coats don’t get impacted
Regular desheds help with shedding!
Brushing at home helps with shedding
Double coated dogs stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter WITH THE COAT THEY WERE MADE TO HAVE!!!

It’s Going to be Reigning Cats and Dogs in Chicago this August…

The International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC) today announced that at least in Chicago, the Dog Days of Summer will be the Dog and Cat Days of Summer this August.

IKC co-owner Scott Pfeil explains: “We’re excited to welcome TICA-The International Cat Association, and The Great American Cat Show to join with the IKC and The Great American Dog Show. So now, not only can an estimated 80,000 people meet just about every dog breed, they can also meet just about every cat breed.”
The International Cat Association (TICA) sponsored event anticipates cats representing most of their 73 breeds, which include established breeds such as the Abyssinian, Maine C**n and Turkish Van, to new breeds such as the Ragdoll and Bengal.

“Dog and cat people face many of the same challenges in today’s society,” adds Erika Wyatt, IKC’s other co-owner. “We need to work together more. And of course, most dog people love cats, and vice versa. Add to this the success of the joint cat and dog AKC Meet the Breeds held in New York a few years back, and it was an obvious addition.”

Attendees and visitors will have access to both the championship cat show and dog show, which will be held in the same location but on two different levels of McCormick Place’s 600,000 square foot Lake Side Center, August 25-27, 2023.

Dog bites can be prevented by learning the body language signals that dogs give off in the lead up to a bite. Dogs generally don't "bite out of nowhere" unless these early signals have been ignored repeatedly or punished.

Here are the signals that a dog will give as they move down the road to a bite, and what they mean:

1) Displacement Signals - "I'll act distracted to take the pressure off"
- Sniffing
- Scratching
- Goofing around

2) Calming Signals - "I'd really like things to calm down"
- Licking lips
- Yawning (often with a squeaking noise)
- Turning head away or moving away
- Moving in slow motion

3) Stress Signals - "I'm really getting scared now"
- Heavy panting
- Sweaty paws
- Trembling
- Big wide eyes (called whale eye or half moon eye)
- Hackles up

4) Preparing for Action / Assessment - "They're not stopping, maybe I'll have to defend myself"
- Stiff, frozen posture (conserving energy)
- Staring wide-eyed without blinking (hard stare)
- Mouth closed

5) Last Warnings - "Please stop and go away, this is your last warning"
- Snarling or lifting lip up vertically
- Growling
- Snapping the air
- Punching with nose (muzzle punch)

6) Attack - "This is the only way to keep myself safe"
- Lunge
- Bite

The earlier you take an exit, the better your chances will be of avoiding a bite! The rule of thumb if you're not sure what to when you think your dog might be heading down the road to a bite is ADD SOME DISTANCE between your dog and whatever is upsetting them. Contact a professional, positive reinforcement based behavioural trainer for further assistance.
