Seth’s first memory of gardening is as a toddler, walking barefoot picking up earthworms behind his dad as he was tilling the family garden. Over the years his parents and grandfathers influenced his budding love of gardening and encouraged him to get his hands dirty and observe the miracle of growing vegetables and flowers. As a result of this Seth competed in the Youth Vegetable and Herb competi

tions at the Virginia State Fair for 7 years winning 15 awards for his vegetables and fresh herb displays. In 2002, at the age of 16, Seth joined the Newport News Master Gardeners Association and completed the classes the following year. Through the expertise of friends and mentors he found in the Master Gardeners, he expanded his knowledge and interest in organic and chemical-free growing methods. In 2003 he worked for a local fresh-cut flower farm for a year where he experienced everything from seed planting to selling the flowers at local farmers markets. As his expertise grew, he transformed the family garden by creating Colonial Williamsburg inspired raised beds that allowed him to expand his herb garden. After reading an article by chefs in local area restaurants about the high demand for locally grown organic herbs edible flowers, and microgreens, he did research and then contacted a restaurant in Yorktown, Virginia. As interest grew, Seth started Mini Acre Farm in April of 2010. Mini Acre Farm is focused on growing and selling high quality herbs and edible flowers that are pleasing to the eye and the palate on less than an acre of land in an urban community.
