3 of my students went to a UKC nosework Trial in Sheridan and they did so well with their dogs. !

Connie and Chloe the Mini American shepherd competed for their first time ever in anything and got 1st and a 2nd to earn their Novice Container title!

Carla and Bramble the Icelandic Sheepdog competed in Advanced containers earning their title with a 1st and a 3rd

Tiffany and Poppy the “Tan Thing” competed all three days: They got 1st in novice vehicles to finish their title, 1st in novice exterior to finish that title and 4th in advanced exterior, 1st and 2nd advanced containers to achieve that title, and 3rd and 5th novice Handler Discrimination (HD) for that title!!

You guys are all great working teams! Woohoo!!! Keep up the great work guys!!

Kyssa and I went shopping with a friend yesterday. Kyssa is going through a little bit of a fear stage right now so I’ve been careful about what she is currently being exposed to. My formerly bomb proof puppy occasionally gets worried about things that would not have even been noticed before. While we saw none of that yesterday, during fear stages, it’s best to avoid things that may induce a fear response. Fear stages are normal and typically pretty short lived. I don’t want to sensitize her to anything during this sensitive time period, and forcing interactions with things that evoke fear can definitely do that. Kyssa hasn’t been having any extreme reactions, but is just more hyper aware of her surroundings and will bark react occasionally. For now we are taking the easy road, nothing too challenging, and soon my bomb proof puppy will return. ❤️

We hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July!
Keep your pets safe during the festivities! I play a loud action movie for my dogs during fireworks and if I’m staying home I toss them popcorn every time we hear a boom outside. Fans and other white noise help muffle the sounds for my sensitive dog. If your dog is really afraid of fireworks, ask your vet about calming aids and plan to start a desensitization program on July 5th 😊

Congratulations to my students on their successes and new titles at the Sheridan UKC Nosework Trial!
I went along to help with the trial and everyone was so nice and the trial was so laid back and fun. Tracy Patton was the judge and she was so fair and kind to all of the exhibitors. I got to run a dog in Masters and got second place! (Owner’s other dog got 3rd) It was a lot of fun to run a dog I had just met.

Sheridan is hosting another trial in October, it would be a great first trial for teams just starting out together in Nosework.
